Texas Hearts #1

Her Heart for the Asking

Rate this book
Promises made...secrets kept...

Mandy Morgan swore she’d never step foot in Texas again after Beau Gentry left her for life on the rodeo circuit eight years before. He once promised he'd love her forever. But he'd abandoned their love for the rodeo and she hadn't seen him since. Now she's back in Texas. Her uncle’s heart is failing and Mandy has to convince him that surgery will save his life. She never dreamed the first thing she’d see when she stepped off the plane would be her biggest nightmare...the one man she’d never stopped loving.

Beau Gentry had the fever for two things: the rodeo and Mandy Morgan. But for Beau, loving Mandy was complicated by his father’s vendetta against her uncle and a promise he'd made to an old friend. Hank Promise, Mandy's uncle, was more like a father to Beau than his old man had been. The hardest thing Beau had ever done was leave Mandy behind for the rodeo. He can still see the bitterness and hurt on her face. It has killed him all these years to think Mandy had forgotten him...maybe even in the arms of another man. But now they’re both back in Texas, and Beau's going to do all he can to win back her love.

Silly..

Eight years, eight years, eight years. Those two words were said 35 times, according to my iPad, in this 182 page story. I guess Ms. Mondello thought her readers were just too dense to remember that Beau and Mandy were apart that long so she felt the need to repeat it again and again.

And Mandy is still mad at him for leaving her when she was 16? Really? She’s mean and hateful at every turn, until 75% of the story, and she’s still acts like she 16. You’d think that in eight years she would have a more grown up attitude.

This was a G-rated book. No sex and no swearing, no OMG moments, no nothing. Just a simple love story. I’m probably done with Ms. Mondello.

As to the narrator: Love, love, love Eric G. Dove. He does a fantastic job when he reads BUT not even Eric could help this book that much.

I'm about two thirds of the way through, and the thing that sticks with me the most is that the author has great potential..IF she found a competent editor!

There's random words thrown in sentences throughout the book, misspellings, grammar mistakes, etc. It's a great story, and she's very good at describing scenes to make you feel as though you are there. That is all thrown off by the appearance of errors just when you're really getting into it.

I haven't looked at the other reviews, I hope a lot of other people caught this as well. Please, Mrs. Mondello.. find a better editor (or even a friend that will look over your manuscripts for you) and I will be back to read more!

No suspense... No 'build up' to anything... No steam... You do get a HEA, but pretty blah, in my opinion. I like this author but lately I'm becoming bored with her books. :(

Mandy was madly in love a branco rider & cowboy Beau at sixteen. They had met at her uncle & aunt's ranch that she went to every summer from the age of 7. She went with Beau to a few of his rodeo gigs & love it. Mainly she just loved being with him since she loved him with all of her sixteen year old heart. Beau was 4 years older & branco riding was in his blood like it had been in Mandy's uncle's who trained Beau. So, all that summer of her sixteenth year she talked to him about her hopes & dreams of the future & yet at the same time running away with him when he was leave that same summer. Beau made a decision that he couldn't let her do that. So, he tells Mandy he doesn't love her, never did & was not taking her with him. She was crushed. Her world felt like it was coming to an end. As much ad she loved her aunt & uncle she could not go back to the ranch.
Nine years have passed when she gets a call from her mother says she must drop everything & go check on her uncle something is not right. She says she can't since now she is working for her hard Ass dad who she is always trying to win his approval. Then her mom says those dreaded words no child likes to hear no matter how old you are..."I'm not asking you I'm telling you." What could a girl do. When her flight ends guess who's there to pick her up? Oh yeah! Life is about to change for ever for everyone.
What a great short read story highly recommend. Several twist & turns.

Her Heart For The Asking is a clean western romance set in Texas.

This is the story of Mandy and Beau, sweethearts re-uniting after a painful break-up eight years ago. The setting was lovely and the romance sweet but predictable.

Idea for a quick afternoon read.

Her Heart for the Asking by Lisa Mondello
Texas Hearts Book 1

This is the first book I’ve read written by Lisa Mondello and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed her writing, it is easy to read, character development was well written and the history and romance between Beau and Mandy was exciting.

Mandy is on her way to Texas to visit her Uncle Hank who is sick, hoping Mandy can convince him to have heart surgery. Mandy left Texas 8 years ago and has never returned after the man she loved choose the rodeo over her. Standing in the airport waiting for her uncle to pick her up in walks Beau. She cannot believe Beau is back in Texas and why would her uncle ask him to pick her up?
Beau who has been keeping a secret all these years knows this may be his last chance at winning back the only woman he ever loved.

This story has hot cowboy (one of my favorites), deep regrets, and true love and of course to make the story all that much better some added suspense and deep dark secrets.

I would recommend Her Heart for the Asking to anyone who loves to sit back and relax with their feet up reading a fantastic romance novel. This is the first book in The Texas Hearts series and will continue to keep track of this series and Lisa Mondello novels.

I have rated this novel 4 stars as I love well written romance novels. Lisa will definitely be added to my list of favorite authors.

A lady returns to the ranch where she spent summer holidays, because her uncle is ill and has asked her to visit. The family background includes a lot of tension and unhappiness among various relatives so this has overspilled into her life and she is not looking forward to the trip.

I did think that the lady spends far too much time and effort thinking and talking about how she dislikes and refuses to converse with or spend time with the young man who collects her from the plane. This part seemed very padded. Also if it's that hard to make ends meet ranching, and the town is closing businesses, would it not be sensible to explore options - besides the standard one of selling land for housing? No mention of the bugbear of fracking which is providing some weary ranchers with returns. How about trying to rear animals organically, rear alpacas for wool, train champion horses, run a nature reserve and dude ranch, design websites online from the ranch house? Other romances are far more creative.

The outcome has some surprises for our characters which are well considered but the no-surprise romance falls apart for me as they don't discuss how they'll manage to keep earning or whether she'll return to marketing in the city. This is a very emotional story which will suit some readers more than others.

This is an unbiased review.

This is another free read from amazon. I didn't care for this book, and perhaps, part of that is me. The main female character's name is Mandy. As you'll note, I go by Amanda, but was formerly nick named Mandy (yes, after the Barry Manilow song). Since I don't like going by my former nick name, I wasn't too hot-to-trot about the character to begin with. I don't know where to begin with this review. The elements are there--long lost love, family secrets, and a vendetta by a character we never even met. Somehow, all of the swirling emotions worked themselves out a little to easily. The heat and heightened passion were missing from this story. No one hops in the sack, or even remembers a time in the distant past when they almost hopped in the sack. As some family secrets are revealed, the main female character insists that nothing has changed. I don't see how her new knowledge would fail to change anything, or how existing relationships could not change from this information. The writing itself was good, I just couldn't get past the characters. Overall, this was a pretty disappointing read.

I really liked this book but there are a few things missing for me. First it's just a lot more chaste that what I usually read there are a few kisses but that's it. When they got caught in the storm I was thinking this is it they are gonna be stuck and sparks will fly and I was very disappointed when it didn't happen. There's just nothing in here to convince me they are really in love it feels like a lot is missing, they just don't spend that much time together everything that happens just comes out of the blue there's no build up to anything just bam there it is. That aside I do love the story line and characters enough that I just might buy the next book in the series. Side note in case Ms. Mondello reads reviews please get a proofreader, the random extra words and things don't bug me as much as they do others my brain just kinda skips over them but a good proofreader and editor would be a really good idea.

This is the second time I have read this book. I actually listened to the audiobook. I didn't realize I had read it before until I was about a quarter of a way through, but I still couldn't remember how it ended. It was pretty blah.

I didn't like Mandy. At any point in the book I didn't like Mandy. She had hurt feelings for EIGHT years. She wasted EIGHT years of her life being mad about something that happened when she was SIXTEEN. Over that period of time, there was no point that she could look at anything objectively? Even when Beau told her why he did what he did, she still wanted to be snippy about it.

Seeing how she behaved about something that happened when she was a teenager, I was surprised that she took Hank's secret so well. I didn't get a sense of any chemistry, any spark, any anything.

Beau and Mandy got their HEA, I think. The book ended pretty abruptly. I did think the narration was decent.

This is a lovely little story that kept me reading. I liked the setting and the characters.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with what has already been spoken here in feedback. This story is in need of an editor. Either that or it has been over-edited and over-read so that parts that needed cutting were over-looked. What booboo stood out the most is the bakers dozen times that asphalt/tar/pavement was mentioned, just in the first couple paragraphs. Wow! Enough.

If a little more time was put in to edit properly.. and to make each scene of the story itself a little longer and more detailed (freshly detailed - no repeating) it could be a really good story. It feels too short.. I wanted more.

This was a short and sweet read. It was a nice clean romance, but seemed to be missing something. I enjoyed Beau, the back stories and the overall storyline. Mandy made me a bit crazy.

Mandy and Beau have a history and they both have held onto their love for each other for the last eight years since she left the Double T. I would have felt a little bad for how Beau ended it with her, but she was 16 the summer they met! He was right to send her home and make her live her life...

Overall the story had a good plot, decent characters and a happy ending, but it left me wanting a bit more. ⭐️⭐️

While I liked the characters and the plot isn't bad either, the story didn't have much sexual tension. That can be there even if the story is clean, which this one is. The hero and heroine only a couple of kisses that lacked any fire. There just wasn't much depth to this story and it's not because it's short. The second chance romance can be a great one for a novella, but this one just lacked any spark. I will say the book is free of grammatical errors, and the pacing is good. It's an easy book to read in one afternoon. If you enjoy super, clean western romances, then you will enjoy this one. Happy reading!

This book was missing the love story of this love story.

You aren't shown the love between the two characters, but are instead told that they were in love and then told again that they have fallen in love without showing any scenes where this is occurring. It felt like a major component was missing. I also felt it was kind of choppy with all that is going on, almost like a coming of age story mixed with a romance that wasn't.

It was an OK short read, but it didn't really keep me wanting to read it.

Way too short of a book for the plot. Family secrets, family fueds, betrayal sprinkled in with little explanation and all that wound up in two weeks when our heroine give us her life for true love. Our characters split as teenagers and I admit I tend to look side eye and a 16 year old puppy love being the gold standard for her entire life where nothing else compares. The outline on this story looks great but needs a novel length to make it work.

Yeah... this wasn’t for me. Too many grammar errors, and I’m usually pretty lenient about that when I do find them. I don’t mind a few or even a little more than that, but they just kept popping up, throwing off my reading.

There’s no build up or even a full explanation in my opinion. And things are repeated way too many times. So... yeah, I won’t be continuing with these. I’m just glad this was a short book so I only wasted a couple hours on it instead of days or more.

Another free book through Amazon. It was ok. My only issue is that the eBook file has 25% of promos/excerpts from other books from the author. It includes an excerpt from the 2nd book in the series, not sure if I'll stick with this series.

Had the promise to be good but lacked staying power. No romance, G rated, lame reason for leaving. One good twist that ends up apparently not mattering in the end. I might read something else by this author but I will not be rereading this book.

3.5 stars ! Totally enjoyed this.. Laughed and cried as well ! Just over 200 pages .. It gives you everything you need without getting entirely too deep. Love me some cowboys ! There wasn't a sex scene though... Just so you all know ! Lol ... But I still liked it a lot.

Not a rodeo fan. As far as I understood the wild horse, Beau just couldn't resist getting on wasn't supposed to be a future rodeohorse? So why just get on it for "fun" without preparing the poor horse and getting thrown off?

This book offers nothing. Then there's an interesting plot development, abruptly out of nowhere, about 90% into the book. Then back to blah.

Really short and lacking in the romance department. Had a little more time been spent developing the story and characters it would have been much better.
