This is a story about a girl, named Mia. She grew up in suburb of medium sized city. There were cold winters, and hot sticky summers. Mia’s favorite seasons were spring and fall. She enjoyed the mild seasons, but also loved the vibrant colors each possessed.
Mia loved music. She didn’t just love it, she sat on the floor in front of her Casio stereo for hours at a time, recording songs off the radio. Then she would cue them up and make sure she only got the music as she recorded them on a second tape, without the DJ’s voices on them, just the music. Then she would listen to those songs absorbing the words as she sat in her room and wrote her poetry.

She wrote her first Poem when she was thirteen. It was called Sands of Time. When she was sixteen and again when she was eighteen she won two state competitions for her poetry. Her Poetry was stories of roses, starry nights, love, loss, and the scars left behind. She found recourse in those private moments filling notebooks of her writings. As she grew so did her inspirations, and when ever it hit her the rest of the world melted away until her verses were written, alive in the world.

Even today as Mia writes mostly YA fiction, poetry still holds a special place in her heart. Her love for all things words propels her forward in her pursuit of the next great story. Her Debut Novel The Ocean will be released this spring.

You would think with an appealing cover and equally appealing blurb, that the book itself would be well written. I'm sorry to say that Something More is a horribly written book. It's apparent no professional editing or copy editing has been done. I noticed this within the first few pages. The heroine is supposed to be an 18 year old college freshman, but she acts more like a 13 year old, whining brat with a personality of a wet noodle.

There's also non-stop info dumping and internal musings that need to go. There are multiple words used time and again and many instances of convoluted statements and made up words. And example is this statement that I had to re-read a few times to understand:

"Hiya, Nyla, the ussh?"

What in the world is a "ussh?" I assume it means the usual, but come on! If a word is invented but never explained, how would the reader know what it means?

But my favorite is: "He couldn't resist smearing his kisses all over her breasts, and her stomach." Smearing like butter or jam on toast? What?? How do you smear kisses? That's unbelievably not sexy or romantic and a fail as a writer.

Nyla, our heroine is so Mary Sue and naive. Also her so-called high school bully and eventual love interest, Jamison is full of contradictions. One minute he's an egotistical, mean snob who treated Nyla horrible in high school, but then they were really frenemies but then friends. So much confusions and back and forth wishy-washiness on this relationship.

This was written more like a first draft, and even then it should have been revised multiple times and edited before it was suited for publication. It's insulting to your readers, regardless if you're self published, not to have a professional editor. Expect a horrible review like this one I've given, not to be mean, but a wake up call to treat your writing as a profession, especially if you're playing in the big leagues and publishing your work.

One of the poorest written books I've read this year.

Good Lord, where to start?

Seriously. I'm not even kidding. Oh, would you look at that...

After reading the first chapter, I could tell that this wasn't going to be worth it. However, I wanted to give this book a fair shot, so I continued reading.

The cover is lovely, but the inside is a hot mess. There's no nice way to say this book is bad. The writing itself is disjointed and not very good. Also, it's poorly edited. If you're going to put your book out on the market for people to buy, then it needs to be properly edited.

“Hiya, Nyla, the ussh?”

There's so much repetition. It made me wonder if the author did it to fill pages. It doesn't help that most of it is useless information. All the info dumping made it lag for me. Blah, blah...snore. Hey, guess what? I don't care.

Pet peeve time:

“Good morning,” he smiled, not removing his sunglasses.

"Smiled" is not a dialogue tag. I see this mistake far too often. If you want your character to smile, he can't talk at the same time. That's creepy.

As for the characters themselves, I didn't care for any of them. Jamison is a grade-A douche. I didn't find him the least bit appealing. His pretentious attitude was very off-putting. Nyla annoyed me from start to finish. I couldn't connect with her at all.

In short, it wasn't the worst book I've read, but it wasn't all that enjoyable, either.

*Warning! This review is for guys only! Women not allowed*

*Shudder*

That was my involuntary reaction after agreeing to read Mia Castile's YA "Romance", `Something More'.

"How do I keep getting myself into these things?" I asked myself, sighing dramatically.

I had never read anything by Mia Castile before, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. She seemed to have a good reputation as a writer, and...you know...she is a Hoosier!

Knowing that I didn't fall within her target market, I nonetheless dove into the story, hoping my manliness wouldn't get too diluted.

Then something amazing happened!

I really liked the story! (You know....besides the romantic stuff *)

But seriously, I found Something More to be a well crafted and interesting story. Mia Castile's writing style is both fluid and thorough, and you will find her characters both intriguing and realistic.

You feel the emotions of Nyla's angst as she fights falling in love, and Jameson's cockiness as he confidently woos her.

Personally, I fell in love with Nyla...ummm...you know....in a manly way.

I am totally impressed with Mia Castile and her story.

I would totally recommend this book to anyone that wants an intriguing and well written YA romance!

(* ~ Men...I have heard that the female of our species really likes this....a lot!)

P.S. ~ I was just kidding about women not being allowed to read this....but you already know that don't you?

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Something More totally BLEW MY MIND! Man have I never ever read a book where the male character was one I wished I could jump in the book and kick his tush. Then to make matters worse a few chapters in I was cheering for him. Dam that author she is a master of all things wonderful! She knows how to take a book and bait you just enough that you keep reading and then you are HOOKED like a fish caught on a line!

Something More is a story about a girl Nyla who has just graduated from high school. She has decided she wants to get away from her small town and start a new life where she can be herself and do what she wants to do without anyone making her feel uncomfortable. She decides she is going to go to college in Chicago and rent an apartment and get a job. When she gets to Chicago it is like a breathe of fresh air away from all the pain and hurt she felt at home. She gets a job at an awesome art gallery and she loves her classes. As she is getting into the grove for her first few classes she meets Ethan and they hit it off. She realizes that she has never had a boyfriend before because of her sisters best friends brother Jamison.

See Jamison and Nyla were always thrown together because they were the same age and their sisters were best friends. But Jamison is a douche in high school and treats Nyla like crap. Every time they are forced to do things together they rebel. So when Nyla has a chance to start all over again she does. Then she is totally blindsided by Jamison when he shows up at her favorite coffee shop. She hears his name being called and then hears his voice and all the old insecurities come back. She is pissed because he was supposed to be going to another college and he ended up at the college she was going to. Then to make matters worse he ends up in half her classes and she hates him with everything she has.

Jamison knows he did Nyla wrong and he wants to make it up to her. He is maturing and he realized that he may just like Nyla a little more than he thought. He can't stop thinking about her and when he finds out she is dating his roommate he is not happy. But Jamison has no rights to her and he has no reason to be mad because he treated her like crap and she never did anything to him. What is a guy to do to prove to the girl he loves that he is genuine? Will she give Jamison a chance? Will she walk away from him? Mia has done an EPIC job with this Novella and I need more! I need another Novella with a certain Ethan in it to sate my curiosity about him. Read this because it is a must read!

Hater-Head
**Disclaimer: This blog post is in no way an opportunity to bitch and moan about poor reviews. This is not an attempt to slander any other author. This is a statement of facts, and my perspective. I leave it to you the competent reader to decide what you will do next.**

Something More was intended to be a fun light read; a one-sitting, leave-you-feeling-warm-inside read. The only thing it ever was, was a novella. I had no idea it would be as popular as it has been, but I am grateful beyond words for it. On this crazy roller coaster I’ve had some intoxicating highs and not-wanting-to-leave-the-bed lows. Who knew numbers affected my emotions so strongly. I didn’t. There’s been a mix of reviews on this story, which surprised me. To those who felt let down I want you to know I’ve read your concerns and am using that constructive criticism to grow in my writing. I guess not every hit of the game will be a home run. I’m all for taking my medicine. I want to know what doesn’t work. There is a right and a wrong way to do it, respectfully. Please respect the fact that I take my writing very seriously. It is an art that I pour my soul into. I’ve never given less than 100% of myself to any project that I am working on, even the blog posts that I write.

That being said.

There are a few reviews out there that are out right mean and hurtful. The intention of said reviews was to evoke a reaction. One review in particular on Amazon and Goodreads insulted not only my work, my editor and myself personally. Upon looking at the reviewers profile, I noticed her blog. After clicking on her blog I found she was an author, too. She. Was. An. Author. Too. I also found my book wasn’t the only book she gave a 1 star review to with similar insults. I want to work in a community where we lift each other up and support one another. This left a bad taste in my mouth. I also, realized that her review doesn’t matter. I actually feel sorry for her, she’ll never be satisfied because her standards are unrealistically high and apparently a level, she herself doesn’t have to reach.

I said all of that to say this.

If you are fed up, as I am, with reviewers who’s sole purpose is to hurt the author, do something.

1. Report the review.

2. When the website asks if this review was helpful, click no.

3. Put up your own rate and review. You don’t have to deeply review it, you could just say if you liked it, loved it, or whatever. It really does make someones day when you tell them you think they did a good job.

4. Do not feed the animals. Don’t engage with the reviewer. It’s not worth it, and like any other bully they live for the rise that they get out of you.

5. Tell your friends about the book. Word of mouth is one of the best review tool out there.

Finally, I really didn’t write this post to be a baby and cry about a bad review. I can take it if someone didn’t like my book. It’s OK. I just ask for the respect that I deserve.

I feel like I am exactly where I’m meant to be, and that gives me peace.

Emphasis mine.

Something More is ranged more around the New Adult area. Based on a girl named Nyla, and her new life as she begins college is like a fresh and new beginning. And what is supposed to be a new start, leaves her with heavy shoulders. Nyla figured that she could leave everything from her high school days behind her and with an all new look, she starts college only to find that people from her past have followed her. Things still go well for her as she begins a new relationship with Ethan. Now, for the problem... Jamison has followed Nyla to her new college and this raises Nyla's guard. In high school, Jamison was constantly battling with Nyla and bullying her when he had the chance. Nyla always figured it was because of his good looks and popularity that he felt the need to bully her. Wearing braces and being on the plain side, didn't get her far with the boys.

Here's where things get interesting. Now, Jamison has decided to fancy Nyla and only wants to get to know her better. He clearly shows his interest, although sometimes it can be quite annoying, and being roommates with Nyla's boyfriend Ethan makes things that much more difficult.

So many times I just wanted Nyla to open her eyes and see how hard Jamison was trying. He was trying just for her. Then I would wonder if I would let someone in my life who treated me like that and the answer was no. The more time passed, the more Jamison would push her. The more he made his presence known. Did he transfer schools for nothing, works so hard and seemingly not ever want to give up for a girl who will never give him a chance? Or will love take hold?

OK, so I'm a glutton for light, predictable, cute, fluffy, romantic reads. This one wasn't deep, meaningful, or mind-blowing. There were no fancy twists or tricks; it wasn't full of poetic, literary prose that struck me with awe. It was just a simple, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers story, but it made me smile, and my heart was swimming with contentment until the very last page. Jameson was endearing and sweet. We see him transform from boy to man, and Nyla was also very likable. No raunchy, steamy sex scene/s involved, but it wasn't needed. Also, there wasn't much development for the secondary characters, as there was a heavy focus on Jameson & Nyla. Solid 4 stars!

I was honored to be given an ARC of Mia Castile's Something More.I enjoyed it so much My words wont do it justice. To summarize the story Nyla goes off to college in Chicago in hopes of a new start. Her nemesis Jameson ends up following her and somehow working his way into her daily life.Something More is a story about falling in love, righting wrongs and learning to forgive.
When I first started this book I was already enthralled...who doesn't want to see a person's high school tormenter turn a potential new leaf and make amends? You could feel the attraction between Nyla and Jameson throughout the book.I really honest to goodness felt bad for Ethan(who you will meet in this book)..Poor guy didn't stand a chance...but after awhile I honestly started not liking how he acted. There was a scene in this book...okay several scenes that I did a bit of a cheer after I read them.I won's say which as I dislike spoiling the book for others.Overall,I adored Something More,The fact that it ended made me sad.It could have been made into a longer book in my opinion but works so very well as a Novella. The icing on the cake was the Ending.Thats all Im saying.Lips are SEALED.
Mia,You have yet again blown me away.I thank you for the opportunity to read Something More as an ARC.You have such a talent of making words come alive.I as always look forward to your next work.

“You told me when you went to college, you were going to have a fabulous life with a charming, cute boyfriend, and he was going to spoil you with jewelry, and love you, and share all his secrets with you. You said you would carry them with you forever. I laughed at you because I didn’t believe you. I couldn’t imagine high school at that point, let alone college, but you always had your dreams and your plans.” Nyla looked down at the box in her hand. “Open it,” he encouraged her. She pulled the ribbon delicately. “My mom wrapped it,” he added nervously. She slid her finger under the paper by the tape. The paper ripped easily. She held the box in her hand and removed the lid. There was a white gold bracelet with a single charm on it. It was a sapphire heart with small diamonds around the fitting. She inhaled sharply as it sparkled and reflected the lights.

“My first secret is that you have owned my cold, hard heart since I met you. I was just too stupid to realize it.” He took it out of the box and unhooked it. He draped it over her wrist and clasped it so that she could admire the sapphire.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a light and fun read. Saying that, some of the things that Jamison did to Nyla was kind of cruel but then he more than made up to her when he realises his mistake and what she meant to him. I really enjoyed Nyla's character as well, she is not the typical girl that makes you cringes or says something that makes you feel nagging or annoying. I quite like her as a character, she is strong, and understand what she wants for her life. Although she did not accept her feeling for Jamison till quite late into the book, the time apart did not have me hating her, or wanting her to speed things up. I enjoyed the pace of the book, and how nice it felt when I read it :) Especially when all the propositioning taking place, Jamison really had me feeling all tingly all over :P

This was such a lovely easy read. I did feel bad for Ethan because I felt like he was being strung along by Nyla. But I am so happy that Nyla ended up with Jamison. I kind of hope that Ethan gets his own book, I would definitely read it.

Maybe I went into this book with too-high expectations but this book was a definite "meh" for me. The blurb looked so promising and I was really looking forward to the grovel but everything that happened was just anticlimactic. I didn't like the love triangle and the h just kinda fell flat for me. It felt like she could never make decisions for herself, she had to let everyone else do the hard stuff for her. Not my cup of tea.

Something More was a beautiful road to true love; when your arch nemesis becomes the one person you can't live without and all that hate you've been feeling is really just love in disguise. We all had a nemesis in high school, maybe a boy that picked on you far too much. Well, Jameson is Nyla's bully. She finally feels free from the immature constraints of high school and as a college freshman she can become the person she's destined to be. Until Jameson pops back into her life, of course. Nyla is such a remarkable character and very relate-able no matter your age. Even with life sucking around her and things not going the way they should she never judges others or thinks bad of them. (Aside from Jameson of course).

Ok, so I did get majoring PO'd by this book and that was the abrupt shift in POV's. Normally, there is a start of a new chapter, paragraph or even the character name between paragraphs to signify a change, well, Something More had none of these. One second your following along Nyla's world and suddenly your thrown for a loop because not only does what she say not fit, your not even reading about Nyla anymore. Very Annoying. And it happens A LOT, and not just Jameson and Nyla's POV at a few points we get an extra thrown in as well. Jameson, was hard to both love and hate. He has very little regret for much of the book because he never viewed his action through Nyla's eyes or thought they were wrong. At times I wanted to kill him for making her high school experience all the more suckier. But at least he begins to feel regret and realize his actions were selfish and hurtful.

There were quite a few spelling and grammar errors that normally could be overlooked, but there were too many. Many times the mistakes were so obvious a five year old could spot them. Shame Shame. A little proofreading never hurt anybody. This angered me more than anything because I kept being taken away from the story. this mixed with Jameson's continued torture on Nyla had me baring my teeth like a viscous PitBull. I did not like the minor love triangle in the story. I really liked Jameson's roommate and though I knew him and Nyla were not meant to be, it was hard to want her to push him away for Jameson who tormented her for so long. But oh man, watching Jameson slowly realize why he's so fascinated with Nyla for so long was beautiful. The flashbacks to their shared childhoods really helped paint a picture of 'their beginning.

'Something More was definitely part of the YA genre and plays out like a romantic comedy. If you can make it through the awful POV transitions than you won't be disappointed.

I loved the premise, but it did not work for me.

It felt off. First the writing was too wordy. The author gave (TOO) many detailed descriptions about everything!! (loc 37). Then I did not need to know that the heroine brought her DVD player and boom box to college. (loc 39) Why did the reader have to know the color of her toe nails and when she painted them??? (loc 53) This took away from the story. It is as if the author wrote every single thought that came to her head.

I can see where the author was trying to take the relationship between Jamison and Nyla, but the execution was weak. Nyra hated Jameson. That part of their relationship was somewhat explained in flashbacks, but half the time I did not understand why the heroine hated the hero so much. Also, Jamison followed Nyra to college, but he dated other women and even Nyra's co-worker. I love to read about the bad boys and the manwhores and the bully heroes who change their ways, but there was NOT ONE THING likable about the hero. There was not one appealing about him.

This is written in dual POVs, but I was confused by the characters' actions. Then when Nyra was explaining to her friend in front of Jamison how she lost her virginity, I just felt like that was the last awkward thing I wanted to read in the book. Was she bragging? There are too many other books in my TBR for me to waste my precious reading time on this book.

I loved the cover, I loved the premise, but the writing and the verbiage did not work for me. The behavior of these characters was just strange. I don't want to be hurtful, but I think a professional editor would help improve the flow and eliminate a lot of the unnecessary inner dialogue. And what is "ussh"?

So like I said in my update... it a hate/love/hate... and more hate relationship. This book starts out with Nyla moving away from home to go off to college. She is hoping for a new fresh start away from everyone back home. A wk after everything is going so well she has started her new school, classes are great, she's in a study group, New job.... all until she's at her favorite coffee shop and runs into Jamison. He was her nemeses from back home... they have known each other since middle school 7 or 8 th grade when they met through there big sisters, they where besties and inseparable. So they where forced to be amongst each other. But everything changed I mean he was always rude and a big douche to her but on their first they OF hs when she said hi to him when he was with his friends he acted like he didn't know her from there on he made her life hell. But I guess all along he was crushing on her through hs and acted like a jerk instead.... I think it also had to do with the fact that she showed no interest in him. But for there graduation he had an ipiphany, he realized that he probably would never see her again and changed school out to follow her. So he basically finds away to be in her every day life... in many ways... stalker... I know, right. lol. But it was cute. So anyways She starts dating his roommate and he is so jealous... and realizes that he loves her... long story, go on and get its a nice read.

I will admit that I was annoyed by the fact that all of a sudden it was one character then moved on to the next... but I wasn't lost and but minor deet I guess... other than that I thought it was a cool book. finished in one night.

I like the simplicity of the cover. It's not that extravagant, but the photo is really nice. The girl is cute as well, so I was quite disappointed when I read that Nyla has the long brown hair and bangs, so not the girl in the picture. At least they should have made it match. I was really hoping Nyla would look like the girl in the cover. Also, How is Nyla pronounced? Is it "Nayla" or "Nila"?

Just like the cover ,the story is simple. Very straightforward and I would categorize it as a feel-good story. A lot of times, I get confuse with the transition on which side of the story is being told. First it's Nyla's then out of nowhere, it would go to Jamison, then there are sides of other characters as well. Maybe I'm just used on first person POV. Other characters did not have enough exposures, the story just focused around Nyla and Jamison. But of course, I'm not complaining. :D

The idea of the story though is really cute. It made me smile in this certain line:

"It wasn't until graduation day that he looked at her and was terrified of the thought of not seeing her every day"

I must admit, the thought is so sweet and romantic. My boyfriend once said almost the same line to me in a letter (we're not a couple yet that time) so the line made me remember that. *twinkling eyes

If you're looking for drama, angst, or action, this is not the book for you. It's just something you could read on rainy days, when you feel like reading something sweet and relaxing. Its also just a short one, so it won't take much of your time.

i just love a good romance and this one was much better than good!! I noticed a few typos and there are no steamy sex scenes, so some readers may be turned off by that but I thought it was definitely well worth the read! Nyla and Jameson are 'unfriends'. The younger siblings of best girlfriends, they get stuck together all the time when their older sisters hang out. Nyla's beautiful but kind of shy and on the nerdy side. Jameson's handsome and popular, with girls lined up waiting for their chance with him. All through high school, Jamison enjoys tormenting Nyla. He starts rumors about her and embarrasses her whenever he can. Nyla does her best to avoid him but it's almost impossible with their families so close. Relief comes when Nyla finally escapes to college away from home. That is, until she realizes that Jameson has decided to go there, as well. Finally figuring out why he's teased Nyla all these years, he does his best to win her over. The only thing is, his room mate, Ethan, has beaten him to her heart, and Nyla still doesn't truat him. Her pulse jumps and her heart beats fast when Jameson's around but she'd rather play it safe with adorable, attentive Ethan. That works out well for her until everyone starts noticing the way they look at each other, including Ethan. A wonderfully, sweet love story, that I gobbled up in less than 24 hrs.

I just got done reading the most disturbing novel I have ever read. Before taking on the sequel, I decided to make the decision to recover by reading something lighter. Alas, I decided to read Something More. This specific love story sure didn't make weak in the knees or make m fall inlove with the main guy, but I did enjoy it. It was pretty funny and cute. The whole love/hate relationship really doesn't get old. However, one downfall wad when they switched between characters. I usually love that, but when it is every other chapter or you have a warning when they are switching like with "****" but she just switched whenever she felt like it and it was a little confusing. Also, I didn't enter the world Castle created entirely. I would often remember that these were just words an author wrote. I want to be lost in a story and enter deep into a certain character's world. For some reason that wasn't happening for me entirely. But overall, I did like it and it was the light read I was looking for.

Such a cute book. It's not deep and full of meaning. Regardless, it was fun to read and I just loved Jamison. He's such a misguided sweetheart. For the entire time I was reading it, I wanted to both kiss him and smack him upside the head because of how ridiculous he was being and not realizing how he really feels. As for Nyla, I liked her too and I understood how she felt about Ethan and the entire situation she was in. Not that I've ever been in her situation.

Like I said, this book was entertaining. Which is why I probably give this book a 3 stars of a 3.5.

I usually feel like amazing books have heartbeats, and in my opinion this book did not have a heartbeat, but I loved it all the same. So if you're looking for a light, fun, predictable but entertaining book, this is for you.

I'm a huge romantic, so that's why I enjoyed this book so much.

I've read this book three times and I just realized I haven't yet reviewed it.

Let me start by saying that I'm a sap. & a true sucker for love stories. I'm not sure if this author didn't have an editor, or what.... but aside from the spelling errors, the comma splices, the certain errors in paragraph play, and the twice misplaced consonants of a semi-supporting character's name, I have nothing to complain about.

It needed serious polishing but outside of the grammar world, the story was adorable.

I actually found my self rooting for the male antagonist-turned-protaganist.

I loved the fluff this story offered and I loved the main character who was grounded, and thoughtful, as well as emotional where she needed to be.

Sigh.

It was just adorable; I loved it.

& I pull out my Nook whenever I need a little dose of some romance.
It's a great cozy day read.
