Brilliant book. The world building is top class, you really feel like you've been transported to the world of the thakar.

The narrative is also amazing. All the characters have been given proper weightage, with Nagya and Chindhi dominating the storyline.

However, the ending felt a little abrupt. There should have been something like an epilogue, something like a "happily ever after". I actually expected either nagya or chindhi, or both, to die from bee stings at the end, but if you are not going to do that, then you should at least do right by the happy ending and give a proper happy ending.

This is a small niggle, but it affects the aftertaste of the book, like having a fantastic four course meal and then the afterdinner mint not being quite good enough.

So, all in all, definitely worth a read.

This is fabulous story of a Adivasis located in Maharashtra. Though a tragedy, it engages us with different aspects of lives of Adivasis and especially the protagonist. Take for example his belief in the local Gods in protecting him against Bees. The story revolves around the life of Nagya who loses his left eye to Bee attack. In order to extract revenge, he hatches a plan with his wife to destroy the beehive. Though he succeeds in his plan but has to pay unexpected price for his deeds.

Note:
1. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Veena Dev and Vijay Dev on Storytel. The narration is very good.
2. A movie with same name based on the book was made in the 80s and is worth watching.

Adivasi clan, their traditions and 1 incident is the theme. Revenge of protagonist turns his life into a same tragic path. It's a tit for tat thing, collateral damage. Those who can't read this one can watch movie.

Captures the tribal sentiments brilliantly. The story traces the life of Nagya and Chindhi, their idiosyncrasies and their simplicity. Another great work by Shri G.N. Dandekar. A must read if you appreciate tribal stories

An outstanding tale reflecting story of love and loss in tribal society. The writing takes the viewer to witness life, desires and tribulations of woman through her journey to sketch her independence and follow her heart, which eventually leads to consequences. Jait re Jait means win showing the life's victory and price you may have to pay to win.

Altogether a masterpiece of Marathi literature and a delight to have such brilliant writers to have blessed us with such works!!
