[Siren Classic: Erotic Contemporary Romance, bondage, whipping, sex toys] Sci-fi writer Matt has been told by his editor to include more sex in his stories, so he appeals to his cousin for help, who connives to get Matt alone with her housemate, Lissa, who has a huge crush on Matt. Bouncing ideas off each other, they amusingly analyze erotic romances at their meeting, like why the heroine always seems to wear front-clasped bras. Startled by his attraction to her, he pretends he needs assistance with an imaginary story. Each time Lissa visits, he uses a scene from the story about two bounty hunters in space who make love to a girl they are delivering to her owner. After beginning to write this for real, these scenes gradually become more intimate, involving whipping, sex toys, and more until Matt and Lissa make love. But is she just helping him for the story, or does she reciprocate his feelings? ** A Siren Erotic Romance
Jennifer is English and lives in a lovely historical city in the UK. Other than writing, her interests include reading (Naturally! She always has at least one book on the go, if not one by her bed, one by the bath, and one in the lounge.), all things historical including genealogy, which she has done for many, many years, watching films (particularly sci-fi), gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and walking. She lives with her pet rabbit who is thoroughly spoilt. Jennifer says she wants to come back as her own rabbit in the next life—unfortunately that would mean she still needs to be alive herself. Maybe there is a time travel story there…
This book is laced through and through with humor, specifically humor about the very genre this book represents! I can't remember when I've laughed so hard while reading an erotic romance. Enacting a wide variety of seductive scenes in romance novels, Matt the sci-fi writer and Lissa his research assistant get into the groove with eager experimentation. The banter they indulge in and the raw/hot analysis of romantic clichés they "study" are a veritable feast for the senses and the imagination. Jennifer Denys walks us through the classics, such as the hero attempting to unhook a bra, trying to carry a lady while wearing unyielding "manly clothes" and, last but not least, the vanishing clothes mystery. This is a treat for the tickles to the funny bone!
