Raposas Inocentes [Innocent Foxes]

Rate this book

Took a while to get me interested, as this is very different from her other books. Interesting and skillfully told, but also very hard, violent and touching. Torey Hayden knows so much about people, whose lives are full of misery, pain, abuse and all sorts of hardship. She also knows how love and caring can make things look brighter even in the worst of times.

An actor visiting Abundance MT nearly runs over Dixie who lives there. She gets excited it's an actor. He has a fat rude son who runs away. Dixie and her no good boyfriend kidnap him and he's in danger of them both. They are mean and when they hit the road, it's worse. After Dixie says why a fox is innocent because a fox can't help it, that's one thing. She and her stupid jerk boyfriend can help what they do and they didn't have to kidnap him and try to kill him. After all that, the kid loves Dixie. Some story! I didn't like this book and nobody in it. I think people say they like it only because of who wrote it, but the book stinks

Strange Story with selfish and crazy characters and a poor ending.
I found upsetting the way the author justified some horrible and cruel actions of the characters, saying that there aren't bad people, just bad things happening to people. Well, bad people do exist and they must be punished not forgiven, and stupidity isn't a excuse for doing bad things.

Laitan kirjan Helmet- haasteeseen kohtaan numero 35.

Kaikkiaan kirja on kuitenkin aivan kammottavan tylsä.

Proveniência: A minha biblioteca/oferta editora.
A minha Opinião:
A minha classificação: 4 – Interessante.

Primeiro livro desta autora!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book.

I have been a big Tory Hayden fan for a long time and have read all of her other books, her 2 other Novels were big favorites of mine. But since Tory hadn't released anything fora while, I was a little skeptical, even more so when I saw the cover. Torey's name is splayed across the front cover in massive letters, whilst the books name is underneath in small writing. This made me worry she was having to get her name so big on there to get people interested in the book.

But....

I actually really enjoyed this! Took a while to get through it at first as i was busy reading other stuff, but once I picked this up properly, I loved every minute of it.

I loved the relationship between Dixie and Tennessee (or 'Joker' as she calls him), you could tell she wanted to take care of him and try her damned hardest to keep him safe.

The bit I particularity likes was the scene between Spencer and Guff in the forest. If you've read it you'll know what bit I mean. The conversation was beautiful, the apologies and the love you felt between the 2 were great. This was my favorite bit of the book.

All in all this was another great book from Ms Hayden!

An interesting book set in Montana, but not the Montana I know. The dialogue just didn't ring true, nor the names of the characters. I have never encountered people with double-barrelled first names in Montana -- I'm sure they exist, but it's usually something I think of as "southern".

Her ability to understand the psychology of the characters is amazing, though, and worth the read just for that. The tension between the "locals" and the "outsiders" definitely rings true as well, and anyone living in certain areas of Montana will recognise it.

I was tempted to give it four stars, but because the characters were not really very sympathetic, and there were some inconsistencies in the plot, I only give it 3 stars.

Ive read alot of Toreys books as was looking forward to another one of her abuse stories. So a bit shocked when i picked this one up.
The storyline behind this book was good. Easy to read, easy to picture the settings. Loved how the boy and Dixie looked after each other once she had broken through his adolescent attitude. The new skills she taught him.. I enjoyed how naive Dixie was and how she always saw the good in her man yet shouting at her for forgiving him when he had beaten her. It brought out a few emotions within me.
However,
The language throughout this book is vile. As a user of profanities, it even shocked me!!

I am Hoping there is another follow on book. I need to know what happened to these characters. I'm just glad there was no love ending like in most books you read!

There was unusually lot of swearing, and, as usual, it didn't translate too well into Finnish. It made me feel like our language contains only two, three, max, swear words, which, I assure you, is not true, but after a while I got used to it and managed to ignore the clumsiest parts.

I enjoyed all the characters and was positively surprised to find myself actually liking the book; I've never considered Hayden a good writer (then again, I've only read them in Finnish, so the translators might be to blame too), and pretty much the only reason I've read her books are the harsh, lurid stories based on real life.

this was quite a different book from the ones I read however what I did not like is why did Dixie just let it all happen? She just let Billy abuse and control her and when she actually got to her feet at the end of the book, I felt like it should have been done way earlier in the plot. The end of the book was a little poor, I expected Spencer to meet his son but the last time he was mentioned was the moment he got rescued from the mountains. I found that quite a bit sewn short.

Other than that I grew to love Tennesse's character cause he understood Dixie wanted to care for him not getting him hurt.

Strange story, not really like any of Hayden's previous. Took a long time to get into and the story is quite far-fetched. I did become hooked in the end though and wanted to know what happened to the characters who I had surprisingly become emotionally involved with.
The book was interesting, different to a lot that i've read. It's hard to say much without spoilers so I think I will leave it there ...
Just a warning - it's not like Hayden's other books it had may as well be by a different author for all you can tell whilst reading it!

I started reading this book a few years ago after I bought it for a long train journey, and I obviously found it hard to get into as I only picked it back up again this year.
The way the characters develop throughout the story was the thing I found most striking about this book, and the beautiful descriptions of the wilderness truly made me feel as lost as the characters, while providing a peaceful contrast to the events happening and emotions felt.
Though I slightly despised him I would have liked the point of view of Spencer to have carried on a little further.

It took me a while before I started to understand what this book was about. The start was a bit boring but the book got much better towards the end. I especially liked how the relationship between the little boy and the woman grow and became significant as the book went on. As a future teacher, I am always keen on reading Torey Hayden's books because she writes about things that are, unfortunately, present in the school world.

I've always liked Haydens books. And this was no exception, I read it at one go. Sat on the sofa with my flu and this book, and didn't stand up until I'd finished with the book. This was fiction for a change, usually her stories are based on true stories, but this was a novel and very well written. She really understands human nature and children. Viattomat in Finnish is the title.

Didnt know what to expect from this book, after reading all of her books previously. Found it a little bland, the story took a long time to get the least bit interesting. At the halfway point, only read on to find out what happened to the characters. The storyline picked up, but the ending was disappointing.

I have read Torey Hayden's non-fiction books about life as a teacher working with very needy children. This book was (in some ways) quite different from her non-fiction books. However, reading between the lines, the book is still about some very needy people.

I lost all track of time as I read this book. I couldn't stop until I finished it at midnight. It was a very satisfying read.

My 1st time reading a book by Torey Hayden. Overall the storyline is okay, some suspense now and then. But the f word appears too many times. It is not easy and pleasant having to read a book with the f words so many times. Wish the author will take note of this. But the story is okay, a light read for me actually.

Another good Torey Hayden read. Took a little longer to get drawn in to than the books based on real life but by the end I had real empathy for Dixie and Joker. Kind of wish it told us what happened to Spencer Scott, etc at the end but suppose Torey just wanted us to continue the game of imagining

I am beginning to think Torey Hayden should stick to telling her true life stories. This is the second novel of hers I have read and it is disappointing. I agree with a previous review where someone stated the characters are almost too damaged, and this makes it hard to enjoy the story.
