Interesting premise for a book. It was quite interesting to read what happens when a fertility clinic messes up. I could have really enjoyed this story, but three things really kind of ruined it for me. I give it a 2 star because I did finish it and I really was intrigued by the 'situation'.

Here is where it fell apart for me:

1.) Jake. Alpha males have to be written in a way where they recognize what they are, don't apologize for it, but you see some growth. This alpha male annoyed the crap out of me (even with his back story). He was so controlling over Grace from the moment he finds out she is carrying his son. His obsession with breast milk drove me to the point of distraction. He just didn't work as a character for me....even when he was attempting to show signs of vulnerability.

2.) The purpose of Susan's baby. Susan herself was a hard character to swallow and I could understand the use of such a cold character as furthering the plot. Where this all fell apart though was the distaste for the baby once she found out that this baby would not be able to help her living child. The entire situation around Susan's pregnancy just grated on my nerves and at times, I felt like it was solely in there to draw parallels to Jake's former life.

3.) The love story...or lack there of. This love story was not shown. You don't see a connection forming between the characters. You see a demanding hard and at times cold man and a woman who only shows anger and frustration towards him. Then she is suddenly still mad at him, but in love with him. How does this work? This wasn't insta-love that I could tell, but the relationship just isn't built, so therefore, doesn't work too well.

It kept me engaged and I was intrigued by the clinical error and the science that was explained in the book. It lost me at all other parts though and I think that is a shame. It could have been a much better book than it was.

This story had so many plot holes.
Like Grace had to fly across the country because they needed the umbilical cord.
Also most airlines don't give pregnet women after the 30th week access to a plane.
There was too much drama in this book. I didn't like it at all.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I will start this review by stating the one thing I can praise in "Righteous Lies: Book 1 Dancing Moon ranch Series" is the author's research on the treatment required for Ricky. The medical and technical jargon did not descend to mumbo-jumbo, but rather, was fairly clear and concise.

Now, on to the problems I had with this story. First, there were grammatical errors. Example: they're versus their. Not many, but there were still errors and when I come across things like that, it just takes me right out of the story. But, this pales in comparison to the other problems I had with the story. And in no particular order:

* Grace states that she has the support of parents, aunts, cousins, friends in her determination to have a child using her dead husband's sperm. Well, no friends were to be found - at all - in the entire book. As to her family, the only "support" she had was from a sister who was barely in this novel and had next to nothing to do with helping Grace either before, during or after her child was born. But, at least this was still better than the out and out non-support she had from her parents, especially mom, who continued her long-standing criticism and haranguing of Grace's decision. So, did Grace lie about all this support she supposedly has, or was she delusional?

* The judgmental, morally preachy tone of the novel got to me at times. But the two main issues I had were when 1) Grace decides there's no point in telling Marc's (her deceased husband) parents that Susan ended up with his sperm. Huh, say what? So if Marc's parents knew Grace was undergoing this artificial insemination, wouldn't they wonder what happened to their grandchild? And if they did not know, who is Grace to decide that they are better off not knowing that Marc has a biological child alive somewhere? Wouldn't it be natural for grandparents to want to have some living link to their dead child?

* But Grace's high-handedness didn't end there. She can spout on as much as she wants about "Salvation Babies" and the emotional/psychological damage that ensues when they find out they are Salvation Babies, but she is deliberately keeping an integral secret from baby Marc. I completely agree that he should not be told the truth about his origins as a child, but when Jake states he should be told as an adult, Grace still summarily decides no. I think it's despicable that a parent would deliberately hide such an explosive truth from someone they claim to love, and run the risk of that person finding out via gossip, eavesdropping, or some other more hurtful manner.

* I found it hard to believe that Jake and Grace fell in love with each other. I had the sense we were "told" this, and not "shown" it. Their "falling in love" and Grace's many ill-timed contractions/pains smacked of plot contrivance. It was too clumsy and ham-handed. I have to wonder if the author even tried to finesse these plot points or just jammed them in.

My Kindle version of this novel had a preview of the next book in the series, and I enjoyed that more than I did this entire book. Too bad, as I like the accidentally switched sperm concept, but just didn't think it was well executed here.

This is a wonderful story about the most unlikely event of sperm being mixed up at a fertility clinic. The clinic has asked Grace, Jack, Sam and Susan to come in for a meeting with the doctor. Once they met with the doctor (and the clinic's lawyer) they soon found out that they were not there for the reason they imagined.

Grace thought she was impregnated with her deceased husband's sperm and Susan thought she was impregnated with her husband's twin brother's sperm. Since her husband was sterile due to cancer, his brother agreed to donate his sperm. They were told the sperms had been mixed up so the women were pregnant with each other's men's sperm.

The mistake was bad enough to deal with but each woman wanted their pregnancies for reasons other than just wanting a baby. Grace wanted her dead husband's child but he had made just one deposit that went to the wrong woman. Susan and Sam had another child who was ill and needed the cord blood from the baby her brother-in-law fathered. So everyone was devastated by the mix-up for several reasons.

Grace was prepared to raise her child alone but when Jack found out that she was carrying his child, he wanted to be part of the child's life and filed for joint custody. The shock of learning about the mix up sent Grace in labor so Jack took her to the doctor who was able to stop the contractions. Jack talked Grace into moving to the ranch he co-owned so she would have people to look out for her.

I enjoyed this story even though I wouldn't wish this situation on my worst enemy. I enjoyed the writing style of the author very much. The characters were so varied that some I loved and some I almost hated. Jack was one I really liked because he was so good at looking out for Grace and their unborn child even though he didn't know her. I wasn't drawn to Grace at first because of the way she had set her mind on having her baby a certain way and she would not even look at any other options. I started to like her later in the book when she mellowed out and was a good mother. I was a bit surprised that Jack was attracted to Grace since she was such a city person and he wasn't. Susan was pretty self centered and hard to like so I pretty much didn't. Then there was Jack's ex-wife, Lauren, who was so terrible that she made Susan look nice! Sam and Susan's son, Ricky, was a cute little guy who I felt so sorry for with his illness.

All in all, this was a good book that I highly recommend.

This was a story that touched my heart. The title really didn't fit the book. The story starts out with Grace, Jack, Sam, and Susan meeting at the fertility clinic. They had been asked to come in for a meeting. The 4 had no idea why. Grace was a widow, and had used the fertility clinic to get pregnant with her husband's sperm that had been frozen. Sam and Susan had a little boy that was sick with leukemia . Susan found out if she got pregnant, the cord blood from the new baby could save her sons life. Sam for some reason was not able to get Susan pregnant. Sam asked his twin brother Jake if he would donate his sperm, to help save the little boys life. He agreed. You can see where this is going. There was a mix up. After finding out Grace went into premature labor, and Jake was by her side. After finding out he was going to be a father, he loved his child right away, and vowed to take care of Grace, and the unborn child. Grace was no door mat. She did stand up to him, but gave in when it was in the best interest of the child. I liked that about her. Just headstrong enough not to take orders from Jake, but level headed enough to listen to her doctor and accept Jake's help, when Grace was ordered on bed rest.

Susan was so different than Grace. She did not handle the news at all. She cried, and I think at one point she had to be sedated by her doctor. She did not want the child she was carrying. At the same time my heart broke for her, and Sam. The cord blood was the only chance they had of saving their sons life.

This is one of those story's that pulls at your heart.

I was a little confused by the description of this story so just to clarify: Grace was artificially inseminated with her dead husband’s sperm. Jack had donated sperm to his twin brother and his wife because his brother was sterile. Grace and Jack meet at the fertility clinic when they come to learn that the clinic accidentally switched the samples and Grace is carrying Jack’s baby while his sister-in-law is carrying Grace’s deceased husband’s baby. Needless to say, Grace is a little upset and the shock sends her in to early labor and she’s relegated to bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. Because she was planning on raising the baby on her own she has no one to help her while she’s on bed rest so Jack brings her back to his family’s ranch so he can help her and get to know the woman carrying his child. The story then tells how the women deal with these shocking circumstances and the relationship that Grace and Jack try to forge because they are now going to be co-parents. Overall I thought the story had some great potential, good interactions between the characters. I felt there was just something missing to push this over the top for me but I’m not sure if I could name exactly what that was. Maybe I wished for a little more romantic lead up between Grace and Jack? Not quite sure but this was a fun read and I’m interested in seeing what comes next in this series.

Interesting read. Kind of went some difficult places. It is basically the story of two different women getting the wrong baby daddy because of a mix up at the fertility clinic. Chaos ensues. I liked the hero particularly. The heroine was okay but she irked me at times. I was kind of looking for a story of a mistaken pregnancy and how the two parents to be handled it and how they came together. I was looking for a romance after all. Pretty well written, it moved right along and the plot made sense.

Enjoyed the book. Jack and Grace have a lot of things to get past in order to find love with each other. The death of her husband and a mix-up on sperm donation make for an interesting tale. Lot of sadness but hope for a bright future always there. Jack is very controlling of Grace and fearful for her pregnancy. There is more than one reason he feels that way. This is where the sadness comes in.
She thought she had been impregnated with her deceased husband's sperm but a mix up at the clinic gives her Jack's sperm which he donated to his sterile brother. Once they find out Grace almost goes into early labor and Jack insists that she stay at his guest ranch which is shut down for the season. She only plans to stay a few weeks. Things happen and she stays till time to deliver the baby. Good depth here with a few twists and a pretty good tale.

Nice read

The beginning of the Dancing Moon Ranch series starts with a terrible mix up at a fertility clinic. Jack and Grace now face being parents without really knowing each other. Jack brings Grace to his ranch for bed rest and taking care of Grace as they wait out the last month of pregnancy. Their path to love is complicated by the tragedies of their pasts. Despite the odds this couple may find their way to a happy family.
The book was engrossing, well written. There are some very heavy issues covered in this story. I did not like the choices that Jack and Grace made in the end. Will most likely still read the next book in the series though.

no. just don't. there are so many things wrong with this story that after a certain point I felt the book in itself is a mistake. and there is not a single speck of chemistry between mcs. the fmc dreaming of marrying the mmc just after a day or two of knowing him. why? just because she is carrying his child. and that's just the start. the blatant disregard for postpartum depression is just shocking to me. did not like or even get to take away any character from this. the writing pattern of this book is also disaster. this is a simple disappointment. (there are a lottttt of small and big disappointments that I haven't mentioned here because I don't even want to remember it)

Righteous Lies: Book 1: Dancing Moon Ranch Series

I truly appreciate a writer who gets you going from page one. Just grabs you by the seat of the pants and throws you right into the middle of the primary situation and just let you watch as all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place. This was something that was supposed to be so simple, Grace was finally going to do it, she was going to have a baby. All by herself, by artificial insemination, even though she was a widow. Simple right? Until suddenly, it wasn't.

Wow! This story is based on on something that happened. Sperm donation. Two pregnant women given wrong specimens.
Grace thought she was to have the sperm of her dead husband, but it was not it was Jack.

The sperm that Jack was was to go to was Susan, because his he twin brother was sterile because of cancer. They also have this cute son, Ricky who needs a Cord blood match to survive. I really loved that kid!
I did like Jack and Grace together! I didn't like his bossiness. Lol.
All in all I recommend this book.

Mix Ups

Grace lost her husband to cancer but they planned ahead an froze some of his sperm. Jack donated because his brother couldn't have anymore children due to cancer. Ryan, Sam's son need the core blood. When they all get certified letters to come to the clinic they find out about the mix up and it changes their lives. The emotions of this book make you want to read more of the series.

Clean but sexy

This was a sexy story, but not sexual. This clean story pulled out some very different emotions throughout the whole story. I cried in the beginning and some throughout the story. This was a well thought out, highly emotional, and well written story. I loved how Jack and Grace worked through the issues, took the positive road, and made it though everything. Highly recommended to read

Righteous Lies (Dancing moon Ranch, #1) From the beginning, the characters caught my attention and drew me in. Patricia Watters has a talent for creating emotions in the story. This book had depth and turmoil until you didn't know how the drama would turn out. The love story also had depth. It wasn't an easy relationship between them, but yet interest was there. I look forward to reading the second book in the series. I highly recommend the book.

Knitting: when knitting small things in a round 4 knitting needles are used. The needles are pointed at both ends. You divide your work onto 3

needles and use the fourth for knitting around and around. You cannot knit the small things on circular needles! I did enjoy the book and would recommend it to others.

Cold like snow...

This book pulled me in most unwillingly. It was dark and hard and made me dislike the characters as much as I liked them. The fact that the series was recommended to be by my mother was also troubling, but being the second in this series and ending in a more gentle and Warner light, I want PT to read on...

You have a widow who saved her husband's sperm and a cowboy trying to help his twin brother's wife pregnant via invitro. The clinic messes up and the ladies are pregnant with the wrong child. I actually enjoyed this story. It's definitely different with a lot twists and turns. It was bit tough keeping all the different people straight but definitely worth it!

It was cute. I might read the rest of the series if there had been some on page sex. The story was good but I need to see him giving her multiple orgasms, not hear about it after the fact.

It's hard tell what hear this is set it's contemporary when nobody seemed to have a cellphone and they all called on landlines but she has a laptop and is gonna look online for a job?

Family and what make you one!

This story starts at a fertility clinic. We have the reasons why the clinic was necessary and why the babies were conceived. From there everything changes and a new family created. The twists and turns are exciting and heart warming.

I enjoyed this book immensely!

I love how this story deals with deep and important issues effecting all of society. The concerns each character has are heartfelt. I love characters who have to overcome hard things and these all do. Very Austin-ish too... everybody gets what they want.

Good but

With 58 minutes to go and 77% of the book read, it ended and then enticed you with three chapters of the next book in the series hoping you would get hooked. To me this is deceitful and took away the fun of Book 1

Ok for a romance novel a little too far fetched for reality. Too many loose ends. Good for bedtime reading.
