Dagus Whitton is tired of being controlled. After his brother Drake moved in with his shifter mate, Dagus had felt a great sense of accomplishment from finally living on his own, especially considering his blindness. But that was before being kidnapped by scientists bent on using him as a bargaining chip against the shifters living in the area. Now he struggles being alone, but hates always having someone watching over him. He’d had his life neatly in hand and just wants to get that feeling of contentment back. Discovering a mate has its pros and cons, and Dagus isn’t certain he’s ready for more drama.
Brad Nadeau never thought he’d find a mate, since his homophobic father filled his head with the belief that Fate didn’t grant them to gay shifters. When his biker gang walks into a gay bar in Colin City for a night of fun, Brad’s world is turned upside-down. Not only does he find his mate, but he discovers that the guy is human, blind, and already knows about shifters. That should make claiming Dagus easy, right? Except accepting his mate means Brad will have to leave the only family he’s known for the last thirty-seven years, his motorcycle gang. When his leader tells him that the gang needs to move out in less than forty-eight hours to search for a missing member, Brad is faced with an important choice, and not much time to make it in. Learning that the local wolf pack is experiencing dangerous unrest due to several members not liking all the other shifter breeds in the area doesn’t make his choice any easier. Is Brad ready to face down shifters like his father to start a whole new life with a mate he isn’t certain wants his brand of care?
A story I’ll admit to having waited for, this book focuses on Dagus, a blind writer, and Brad, a member of a biker gang. The fact that the entire gang consists of gay shifters is a fun idea, and them ‘invading’ Stone Ridge’s pack territory has all kinds of interesting consequences. I really hope we haven’t seen the last of them!
Dagus may be blind, but he is proud and wants nothing more than to live an independent life. Ever since his brother Drake (from book #4) moved out, a friend of his moved in, but it is not what Dagus wants or needs. Not even the fact that he got kidnapped by the evil scientist can stop him from wanting his life back. The few insecurities he does have are no more serious than any seeing person’s. Running into his mate surprises him, but he takes it all in stride.
Brad is a great character. A polar bear shifter, with the mostly easygoing temperament to match, he is ferocious when angered. And some of the local wolf pack’s members make him really angry. He is a very considerate mate for Dagus, sensitive to, but nor patronizing about, the fact that Dagus can’t see. The mate bond isn’t the only thing that attracts him, and I loved how he takes care to let Dagus know that.
It was interesting to see the first traces of pack politics appear. There hasn’t been much of that in this series so far, but with quite a few members turning out to be gay, not to mention non-wolf shifters becoming more common, it was only a matter of time for the bigots, as present in the shifter world as anywhere else, to raise their ugly heads. Not a big deal yet, but I suspect this is a possible storyline we might see more of. If you like shifter stories with a variety of species, if experiencing the world the way a blind person does interests you, and if hot man-on-shifter action is your thing, you might like this story.
My guilty pleasure! This story had a bit of pack internal problems, which is new and intoduced a whole new set of shifters from an all gay biker gang! The elephant, Nile monitor and the polar bear had their stories, but she introduced a peacock, hyena, a bull, and a penguin in this story and that alone is a reason for me to keep reading the series! Lol
People blind from infancy don't use visual cues like nodding and looking sultry.
10 inch dick? Seriously? How am I supposed to take this seriously? A longer than 10 inch dildo? Why? And where did he find it? (Nix that; you can find anything online.) Does the author own a ruler?
Cool that their teeth clacked. That does happen sometimes.
Cool that they mentioned being blind doesn't heighten senses, the person just learns how to utilize them better.
6 manuscripts of m/m romance in four years pays enough to live comfortably? HA HA HA HA!!! She's funny. She knows herself it doesn't pay that well.
How is Kintra close by when he left that morning?
Odd that they didn't even bring up going on the road together. Yeah Dagus would have to give up his whole life but Brad is giving up his whole life. They couldn't do it because the constantly changing locations would be too hard on Dagus since as a blind man, he requires his environment not to change in order to be comfortable, but that wasn't mentioned either, even when they were told they might not be able to stay.
Cool that there are so many African and African American men in these two series. I also like that there's a blind guy who doesn't get fixed. I'm not sure what bringing up which parents genetics was to blame was for but maybe that will be in a future book since so much of the long running plot is about genetics.
This is not one of my favourite books of the bunch. I liked Brad well enough; he was a sweetie. But Dagus just did not register with me. Other than his defining trait, there simply was not much to him, and I didn’t like his family before so that connection did not exactly help to fill me with joy.
The author messed up quite a bit with the blindness aspect. You do not need voice recognition to write books. There are Braille keyboards and typewriters, have been for years. And someone who has been blind almost since birth will not say something like “I can’t tell if someone actually likes me when I can’t see their body language” because he will never have even begun to rely on visual interpretation. He will have developed other ways to gauge another person and not even think of this particular one. At least not unless he’s being directly reminded of it by someone else.
Anywho. I did not dislike this book. It definitely had its moments and all. It just wasn’t a great hit.
What it did, though, was start a spin-off series, of which I already own the first book, so I will get to that after reading the currently last for this one. Which will feature one of the evil guys as a romantic interest, so I am just a tad uncomfortable and simultaneously intrigued. This could be good. Or it could suck. Let’s find out.
This book didn't do it for me. Dagus was a little asshole with the way he treated the Alpha, after all the shifters have done for him. There was a lack of respect for the Alpha throughout this whole book and by everyone. MCs didn't do it for me either.
Nothing much happens... Just a bit of unnecessary drama. A blind man and a polar bear makes for an unusual match. That is about all there is to the story.
A quite “classical” paranormal romance, even if this is book 7 in a series, I decided to read this one since I was fascinated by the character of Dagus, an African-American blind man who is the mate of Brad, a polar bear shifter.
There were many of the themes I usually like, multicultural pair, a main character dealing with disability, a big and strong man but with a caring attitude (and almost housekeeping tendencies, he likes to cook and to take care of Dagus in a “motherly” way). I think the author wanted to move some of the cute characteristic we usually link to a teddy bear to the “human” version of the same, Brad. Even if strong and bigger than Dagus, Brad is not an alpha, he is more an enforcer, someone who can for sure take care of his mate, but who doesn’t really have the strike to be an Alpha pack leader.
Dagus on the other side has a strong willing, but it’s clear that his disability is limiting him. The author doesn’t underestimate these issues, and even if it felt a little forced that Brad is browsing the net to search advice on how to go out on a date with a blind man (I’m not really sure what type of help you can find like that), I appreciated that Dagus’s blindness was not yet another label to make up Dagus’s character, and instead it influenced him and his actions.
This is not a long novel, and it has a medium-high level of erotic scenes, but I have to pay my homage to the author since I quite enjoyed the sex scenes, they read nice and good.
For sure reading book 7 not having read all previous ones is a little difficult, there are a lot of supporting characters and their background is only slightly hinted, but truth be told it was not really a problem, if you want, you can go back and read about them, but Brad and Dagus’s story, even if not long, is nicely wrapped up and complete in its own.
This particular installment in the series saw a change in the dynamics because there was an introduction to a host of delicious nomad biker shifters that form their own pack. They are a close brotherhood of shifters who were abandoned or kicked out of their former packs and families because they are gay.
The book opens with the same bar scene from Carson and Jared's story where Carson was dancing with Dagus. In this instance, it is from Brad's perspective when his gang rolls into town and hits the bar where his nose tells him that his mate is somewhere in the bar. Brad is floored to discover that he has a mate since his dad told him that mates could not be same-sex, but he's delightfully surprised when he realizes that the handsome blind human is his. And best of all, his human knows about shifters.
Dagus is tired of being coddled even though it is all good intentioned because of his kidnapping experience. His brother is mated and for the first time he has a chance to live independently. Unlike other humans, he is eager when he finds out the big biker wants to know him and he is open to exploring a relationship with Brad. There is the problem that Brad isnt' a wolf (the wolves are up in arms to Declan about letting other types of shifters into their territory) and he's part of a bike gang that only plans to stay in the area a few days.
Very enjoyable plot with characters who know what they want and go for it! The time spent outside the bedroom on dates and outings was a nice touch particularly between two characters who work well together and in the story. I love the pairings that Charlie Richards introduces with each new book.
So, this is a series that I continue at a leisurely. Whenever I feel like reading a shifter book, I pick up the next one on this series. I know pretty much what to expect, as style of writing. When the mates meet, their attraction is instant. It is explained that their attraction is in the 'shifter blood and their mates'. So it helps make it more believable...
Dagus, is Drake's blind brother. This is his story. I am sure many people had been waiting for Dagus to get his own story. Poor man has been through a lot. On a good note, at least he is very well versed when it comes to shifters. So when his mate, a polar bear named Brad, rolls into town with his gay biker gang/pack he understands about mates and isn't thrown through a loop about it. I really like Brad. Even though he is aware that Dagus is his mate he isn't trying to rush it. As in, 'MINE, BITE, MATED!'. He respects Dagus and Declan's territory. He actually takes Dagus out on a date to just get to know him a little. Brad is respectful about Dagus's blindness and doesn't treat him as 'kid'.
Dagus's roommate also meets his mate in this book. Philip is going to have a time claiming his mate though. She is a firecracker. :-)
There is one thing that gets me...the horse shifter. One of Brad's biker gang, a horse shifter, has gone missing. He had gone to visit his sister but never showed. Brad's gang just plans on leaving him behind. Isn't anyone worried that the mad scientists had kidnapped him?? Because I am. No one seems to care or think much oh it. And they never go back to this... So, I hope they will address it later on in the next book...
There comes a time in everyone’s life when you have to see with your heart and not your eyes. Brad Nadeau had that epiphany twice in his life, when he met a stranger named Kontra his future alpha. Kontra gave him hope when he had none; that one day sometime in the future he would meet his one and only. Even though he is a gay man and a shifter fate would not be cruel. As the passage of years was lived he never once gave up hope. Brad knew he was loved and cared for by his friends his band of brothers, yet at night when the dark would not let you lie to yourself; he felt the weight of loneliness. Until he met the alluring sexy Dagus Whitton. The man is absolutely lovely and so brave so accepting and willing to be loved. Brad was blown away that Fate would gift him such a man. Dagus knew there was more to the world than your eyes can see and through recent events he has been shown a new and wonderful reality …be as it may it can also be a scary world. The only consistent and irritating issue he has is that everyone in his world is protective of him and forgets that he is a capable man. Definitely capable of embracing one-lovable-touchable-sexy-bear-of-a-bad-boy -shifter as Brad. Can a roaming man set in his ways learn to see and love a new life? Dagus sure hopes so because after seeing and tasting heaven he has no intention of letting it go.
I have really liked the brothers Drake and Dagus since they appeared in the series. Now we get a mate for Dagus - who just happens to be a polar bear shifter who's a biker! Brad has been lied to by his father that gay shifters don't get mates so Brad has been on the move for over 30 years with his family - his motorcycle gang. When they stop in to the local gay bar, he immediately scents what he thinks is his mate, but in a room full of gay men he's not sure who it is at first. Phillip has been watching out for Dagus since Drake has moved in with Ailean and he takes his protectiveness a bit far for Dagus's taste. While Dagus eventually gets his way and goes out with Brad, he is concerned about mating with a shifter and losing his independence. He soon comes to realize that Brad does not want to stifle him but wants only to love and protect him. There is a new conflict in the pack that causes a rather unfortunate incident, but all's well that ends well. And can't wait to see the shifters in the next book.
Now I remember again why I had stopped reading this series. The writing is awful. there are structures which are supposed to be sentences but make absolutely no sense, unfinished sentences and weird loose unrelated sentences at the end of a paragraph or page. Then there are all kind of typos and serious grammatical errors. To make things worst there are many really dumb conversations and it seems the author has never ever interacted with a blind person or she would have known that after a few years of blindness there is no messy eating or any problems in cutting food, be it stake or anything else. And no need to count steps and stairs in ones own flat/house ! Not to mention that Dragus was supposed to be blind from early childhood. And finally there was nothing engaging, interesting , original or new. I'm not even sure if I could call this a story!
Sweet, but not my favourite of these romances. Dagus meets his mate in a polar shifter that rides with a motorcycle gang. Fascinating that this is the first time Declan's pack meets Kontra's gang. It is interesting as well that those two seriously do not seem to get in well, especially when in other books it seems that they would work well together and respect each other's leadership. Brad and Dagus themselves don't have any issues, it is more so with shifter politics of different packs, different animals, and general posturing and such. The pair themselves as rapidly sickeningly sweet and just want a life together. Things get figured out after a bit of drama.
This book was probably the simplest in terms of plot but I still enjoyed it. I liked that Dagus had a personality and wasn't a pushover. Even though these guys hook up at lightening speed, I like that Brad wanted to get to know Dagus before he claimed him and I enjoyed their date.
Gotta say that this cover sucked. The Dagus on the cover hooks like a wanna be R&B player with those shades and Brad looks like a pale, washed out ugly guy. I had to not let the cover distract me from my mind's Dagus and Brad.
I like that couple really much. I like Dagus from previous books and now he get his mate Brad; it is just perfect. We get to know few new faces. Kontra and other shifters from Brads group are more interesting then Declan the alpha of that region and his crew. I hope we will get to know new faces more.
First Reading 12-19-13 Don't shoot me, but I thought this one was going to be better :( I REALLY liked Dagus in the previous books so I was looking forward to his story. Maybe it was Brad that didn't wow me? I don't know. Maybe I wanted more conflict? Not sure, but something was off for me.
Much like Stormy Glenn, Charlie Richards infuses her stories with just enough intrigue and endearing romance to make it possible for to me overlook bad writing. Not great, but a pleasant way to pass the time if you're in the mood for some sappy m/m shifter fun. Be warned that Richards sucks at dirty talk. The sex scenes can be a little awkward at times.
This was a quick read and I feel like it might have benefited from being a little longer but it was a lovely story. By now I feel like I know what to expect from this series so there wasn't any "new" ground broken here but I liked the characters and the love story between Kyle and Vee. I also really, really love Jared :)
This is a quick easy read.with both Davis and Phillip finding their mates, not each other. I like that even though Davis has some issues to work through from his recent kidnapping he is written as strong and not helpless due to him being blind. He is willing to fight for his mate and stand up to the Alpha then apologize when he overreacts. I hate the helpless disabled needs a keeper trope.
Was glad to finally to get to read Dagus' story! Also, I really enjoyed meeting all of the new shifters that traveled with Brad. Can't wait to learn more about all of them too. Fun book, I continue to enjoy this series.
I really like reading her books. After reading the book I think about the next 2 or 3 people who will be in future books. This is a good thing because that means there is always another book to read.
Following closely the plot - did like Dagus and how he tried to remain independent. Enjoyed Brad but he didn't seem real "biker dude'y" but I am so glad finally to have the intro to Kontra's so I can start reading that series. I loved the whole polar bear - what a unique shifter!
Love Charlie Richards. Have all the books for this series. This one is just as great as all the others. Also love how even though Dagus is mated to a shifter there is no miracle cure like so many other books do. Keeping it real (well, for a fantasy shifter story anyway).
