In a small Ohio town, a student is suspected in the mysterious drowning death--and ghostly return--of a beautiful young teacher. Construction workers in Austin, Texas, quit out of fear or sheer frustration when ghosts of mischievous schoolchildren hamper the demolition of Metz Elementary School. And after a high school junior dies in a car accident outside his school, his bloody apparition returns to the gymnasium where he had his last dance. These are but a few of the incredible accounts to be found in Haunted Schools.
I always enjoy a good 'ghost book' as I like to call them, and this was a good, quick read. I did enjoy the stories inside, although they weren't as well developed as some I've read. There were a few times I'd wonder how the author or his sources could know certain information, like the last thoughts of someone before they died, but I also realize these were probably just inserted as a function of story-telling. My only other concern was that the humor inserted at some points in the story telling was at times insensitive (see the ending of 'A Boy and his Instrument' for an example of this). Now, it could just be me, but my opinion is that humor and ghosts don't usually compliment each other well. I enjoy reading a book that sends a chill up my spine. With this book it was more of a shiver.
There were so many parts of this book that were awful. The stories themselves were okay, however the author’s jokes and ‘lessons’ throughout the book were insensitive and at some points downright horrible. One point that really stood out to me was when he describes the spirit of a young abused boy who committed suicide as pathetic. If I wasn’t so stubborn this would have been a DNF
