Between Heaven & Hell

Rate this book
Angel Machidiel and demon Alastor have been denying the attraction they feel for each other for centuries because relationships between angels and demons are forbidden.

Things change forever when they both fall for the same mortal man and begin a relationship with him. Together with Tristan, the ménage they form is filled with jealousy and insecurities, passion and love.

Only time will tell if the relationship they have forged together is made in Heaven or Hell.

I live in England, in a quaint little village that time doesn't seem to have touched. No, wait a minute- that's the retirement biography. Right now I am in England in a medium sized town that no one has ever heard of, so I won't bore you with the details. Keeping me company are numerous sexy men. I just wish that they weren't all inside my head.

Please note, L.M. Brown is no longer active on Goodreads. Although she does occasionally check in to comment on another's blog the visits are few and far between.

It always amazes me how many different ways there are to approach the eternal battle between Heaven and Hell, angels and demons. This story adds the element of a human partner into an already sort-of-existing-but-not relationship between the angel Machidiel (Mac) and the demon Alastor. In many ways I felt sorry for Tristan because how can he possibly keep up with these two? And yet, he is the "glue" that brings, and then holds, the partnership together. Without him, Mac and Alastor would never have made it. Without Tristan, their love would also never have been as severely tested.

Tristan is at a point in his life where he is looking for a more permanent relationship. Interestingly, that doesn’t stop him from having a one-night stand when Mac comes and tempts him. A year later, he still misses Mac, but Alastor gets there first this time. Their three-way relationship starts because they have great sex together, but it quickly grows into more. And that is when the real complications start. Tristan tries to do the right thing, but fate seems to be against him. I really felt sorry for him trying to feel his way in this new supernatural labyrinth, but I loved learning the rules of this world with him.

Alastor is a demon. He thinks he’s a bad guy, but it’s obvious to pretty much everyone else that he really isn’t. At the very least he’s a "good demon", a description that is used a few times, and seems to be a contradiction in terms. Even though it made me chuckle, it is a very accurate word for what Alastor is about. He is a good example for what would happen if we were all punished for eternity for mistakes we made a long, long time ago.

Mac is an angel, and his capacity for love, and for seeing the good in people, even demons, truly is unlimited. He may be "supposed to love all of mankind", as he puts it, but his love for Alastor and Tristan is more than that. His not–so-secret agenda of saving Tristan and Alastor is a tough one to achieve, but he never gives up. His methods may be unconventional, but it just goes to show there are more ways to go about it than traditional doctrine allows.

This book held my attention from the first page to the last. The balance between paranormal/fantasy and real-life issues is great, and all three characters totally fascinated me. One of the few examples of a three-way making sense for more than the fun bits between the sheets, it brings up issues of faith and morality in a fresh way. If you like stories with some meat to them, if angels and demons and their relationships with each other and humans interest you, and if you’re ready for an emotional roller coaster watching these three men struggle with each other and their fated roles, you will like this book. I loved it!

This book is good and worth for reading. After I've tried many menage novels about Angels and Demons,Between Heaven & Hell was finally on my radar though.
I was very intrigued from the first page.Tristan, the MC of this book, recorded his video, and said that he would been in trouble in the near future.
Then the story wrapped up about a year later, the three of them have been together, they have to fight and beat their enemies, and find the way out of their jealousy.

This was a good concept but it wasn't executed well. All three of the characters got on my nerves. Things that should have been obvious to an immortal demon and angel went right over their heads. I wasn't buying it. Tristan was annoying throughout the story. Maybe it was the writing style or the storyline but it was becoming painful to read. DNF at 52%.

3.5 Stars ~ How could I possibly resist a story which nails a few of my triggers? Angels and demons? Check. All male ménage. Double check. The possibility of three gorgeous men, risking it all, for love? Check, check, and check. I'm fairly certain nobody could blame me, though. 'Between Heaven & Hell' is LM Brown's first book in her series, 'Heavenly Sins'. This is a rerelease of the book which was originally with a publisher who shall not be named. However, it's my first opportunity to experience it, so I was looking forward to the read.

Machidiel (Mac) is a gorgeous angel. Alastor is a seriously hot demon. And Tristan is the stunning human who caught both of their eyes. Mac and Alastor finally admit to their attraction for each other, and Mac comes up with a working plan that'll keep them from getting in trouble. For, you see, it's forbidden for angels and demons to have any relationship, but especially a sexual one. The plan? Well, they both want Tristan almost as much as they want each other, and they've never found anyone else like him in centuries of looking. So they decide to share him. Of course, first they've got to drop all of this info on Tristan to see what he thinks.

"Tristan took a breath to steady his nerves. “If relationships are forbidden between angels and demons, where does it leave the three of us?”
“Skating on very thin ice,” Alastor replied with a chuckle."

Their ménage is going very well, until the one friend Tristan has shows his true colors and betrays him. Unfortunately, Tristan remembers none of it, and in an attempt to save Tristan's life, Mac loses something very important to him. Alastor is determined to get to the bottom of this, and must venture into the Underworld to get answers. Oh, none of them like the answers they get. Not. One. Bit. But what's done is done, and the most Mac, Alastor, and Tristan can do now is learn to survive the changes coming at them.

This was a very good book, which I enjoyed. I experienced a number of frustrating moments, which I think came from predictability and repetitiveness. However, I still liked these guys and I'm looking forward to their next book.

3- stars

I had no expectation whatsoever when I picked this book, but it started rather nicely and to my liking. Surprisingly.

Tristan fell for and pining over Mac after a one night stand. He's an angel he met in a club on a Halloween night. A year later, a demon who caught Tristan's eye on that same time and place, Alastor, showed up on his door step to offer same things he had with Mac a year before. The year before Mac disappeared in the morning after their one glorious night. This time the two beings awaited him downstairs when he woke up...

For an angel/demon/human love fest, this one had lighthearted and fun loving interactions at the beginning. Before shit happened and everything going downhill for every one of them. The sex scenes were not so graphic (I could do without the Alastor in his demon beast form making out though. BUT since it was part of the plot...@__@).

Tristan was a gullible character what with his not so young age and profession (he's a construction supervisor though his work was never told clearly). He didn't realized how closely he'd been targeted by demon long before he even knew his two lovers. IMHO Alastor was so laid back as a demon, but I loved him for it - a demon with conscience! :D And Mac... I expected him to be more powerful and alert (I mean, ANGEL! for crying out loud!) instead he seemed rather oblivious to danger until it's too late. *headdesk*

The premises were not so clear in this story; all I'm certain it was NOT in the USA from one convo Alastor had with Mac. The underworld and heaven were also not significantly portrayed other than one was dark and hot, the other bright and airy.

The twist in the story started to reveal about halfway in (just to be clear: I never like Lawrence from the beginning, but GAH!! I hate him so much by the time I finished this book). Whenever I read good met evil, I always hoping the good conquers the evil. This time... It was deuce frustrating!!!

That saying, I sort of enjoyed reading this. Not that I'd be hunting down the next two books though - sorry, no! I don't wish to see Lawrence or Demon King or not-very-helping Raphael anymore than I had to - as intrigued as I was by the other two blurb.

I loved the idea behind this series and am glad that another book(s) will be coming out shortly. It has too since this one left us with a minor cliff hanger. Nothing that makes you groan but more of a desire to read more and see how Mac, Alastor and Tristan handle the situation they find themselves in. The whole concept of angels and demons in a lovers triad really grabbed me and I liked how they stayed true to their good vs evil persona’s…even though Alastor is so not an evil demon. He is the hottest one of them all …but maybe that’s how they draw us in to the dark side. If that’s the case, sign me up. I loved him. I will be looking forward to the next one and recommend this for those who do not shy away from a good ménage…and a lot of some seriously hot sex.

First book I ever read from this author and made me a fan for many more of her books. This has some hot scenes and great chemistry between the 3 characters. Tristan was in the middle for Mac and Alastor but then it became an opportunity for all 3 to be together. Was the start of a great trilogy. The only complaint, is the cliffhanger, but that's just me LOL

This book was just not for me. At all. The characters where flat as cardboard and the "romance" just a front for a lot of tear-jerking dramatics. There was just to depth to anything.
The three of them just enter a romance after each of the supernatural guys shares a night with the human and they immediately move in together. There are "I love you"s in the next chapter. There is lots of sex that's not horribly written bad, but rather pretty bland, and a lot of conflict.
Since the characters and the relationship was pretty much just dive bombed into our lap, most of the interactions and reactions felt fake and unrealistic. There where I bunch of scenes where I felt like the author was going for a certain emotion, but couldn't show it properly, so it felt off. That's probably why there is a ton of telling instead of showing and lots of expositional text.
I pretty much had to force myself to finish it, because I was mostly bored but perturbed about some of the meaner scenes. And then it even ends unresolved in a cliffhanger.
Probably won't read the rest of the trilogy.

Tristan is a Human (Mortal), Machidiel (mac)Is a Angel, and Alastor is a Demon. This is the story of them meeting, then meeting again a year later, and trying their hands at a menage relationship, that is frowned upon by so many but accepted by so many others. The Plot is intriguing and Draws you in. Great entertaining read. Does have a slight cliffhanger involved, so best if you have the 3 books already to go, because you will want to know the outcome.

I almost didn’t finish this and I skimmed the last 35% or so. There was a lot of sex and drama but I didn’t feel the love. I won’t be continuing with the series.

I love a good menage, let’s get that out of the way first. I love the idea of bringing 3 personalities into a relationship and seeing how they make it work. I love the idea of being able to love more than one person in an intimate relationship and it being normal. I really like that. This book brought 3 men together and let them deal with the jealousies and uncertainty that comes with being in a triad. I love the fact that this book is between a demon, angel and human. How is this going to work?

Tristan is the human in this triad. He’s this really good guy who is tired of the hook-ups and one night stands. He wants more for himself. He has his best friend and sometimes hook up, Lawrence, but he wants something more. More permanent. More real. Tristian is an out of work construction manager who is just trying to make his way in the world. Tristan lives a lonely life and with just Lawrence as his only friend, he is just surviving. I liked that Tristan showed his insecurities about being in a menage. He wondered if he could do it. I liked how he once he made up his mind, how he threw himself into this relationship. I liked that he wasn’t always right and he had to make up for his mistakes.

Alastor is the demon in this relationship. Alastor knows that he was human and that he spent time in Hell. He doesn’t remember his human life, as your memories are wiped away when you become a demon, but he knows that whatever he was like as a human, he wasn’t good. Alastor has come to believe over the many long years that he’s been a demon that demons don’t love. He’s been attracted to Mac almost from the moment he saw him on the battlefield and yet, it’s thought to be forbidden for angels and demons to have a relationship. So, when he sees Mac take Tristan home, he’s kinda jealous, but more turned on. Alastor hooks up with Tristan a year later and finds that he really likes him. Alastor doesn’t realize that even being a demon, he’s got some really good qualities. He’s loyal and kind and so very giving. I really liked his character the most. I felt more for him.

Mac is the angel in this relationship. Mac is the one night stand kind of guy. He knows that it’s hard to form relationships with humans as their life spans are so very short compared to his. Mac is the quintessential good guy. He’s loyal and kind. He was a healer in his mortal life and that’s the job that he has as an angel. Mac has been attracted to Alastor for years, but that pesky rule about dating demons has held him back. He didn’t think that anyone could hold his interest until Tristan came along. He comes to this relationship with only the sincerest hope that it can work. That he can have Tristan and Alastor.

I liked that these guys all struggled with jealousy. It showed that they each MC wanted to mean as much to the others as they did for them. It was really great to see that these guys each had a chance to grow and learn. That at some point, they had to realize their own worth. That they did in fact matter to each person. I liked that they all wanted to stand at the plate and love and protect each other.

Now, Lawrence…the pseudo best friend….what a jackass!! You’ll know when you read about him…just what a jackass he is!! I’m so glad that I was right. He’s good at what he does and that kind of ego goes to the head. It definitely did with him!! I loved the Demon King and the Archangels. I loved seeing the way that they thought. What their agendas were and how they were going to make it happen. I loved the ego of the Demon King. He was ruler of all and he was going to get his way.

Now, I’ll let you know that there was a fair amount of sex in this book. I just wanted you to know so you won’t be surprised. I will say that it never felt gratuitous. The intimate scenes showed that not only were these guys attracted to each other, but that they loved each other. Now, it wasn’t only sex that bound them, there were true emotions involved. They showed that throughout the entire story.

I liked that the book ended on a cliffhanger. I was really taken in with these characters and I want their lives to be AMAZING Together. I liked that Tristan still had that wonderful heart and wanted his guys. I loved that Mac found that he could have a relationship. That Alastor found that he could love and do it truly and deeply. I fear for my guys…there are those who would seek to destroy them and I KNOW that their HEA isn’t going to happen easily. They are going to work for it. However, I’ll be along for the ride. I’m truly invested in them and will ride out their journey and see what happens.

Angels, demons, and Incubus...oh my!
I will say one thing about this story. It kept me interested.
Every time I thought it was headed in one direction, it changed and went in another.
Questable HFN and it's got me curious where it's headed.
So off to the next installment.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

I read a lot of paranormal but it is usually more in the shifter genre. Demons and Angels and the whole Heaven and Hell can be a bit hit and miss in my experience but this was one grabbed me from the start.

Halloween in a nightclub and Tristan fancies the hot man dressed as a demon. I think if he had realised at the time that the horns protruding from his head were not in fact part of his costume he could have saved himself a lot of heartache! Whilst grinding over all over his friend on the dance floor trying to catch said Demons eye he is accosted by an angel. As they leave the club together the Demon stops Tristan and tells him that he has a date with him next year on Halloween.

Tristan and the angel, Mac, spend the night together and it is some of the best sex ever but true to his word Mac is gone the next morning and Tristan is left wondering and sad. He wonders for the next 12 months until suddenly it is Halloween once again and he is stunned and little perturbed when a knock on his door reveals Alastor the demon who has come to claim his date! The following morning not only is his demon still there but he has been joined by an angel and they have a proposition for Tristan.

There is a lot of history between Alastor and Mac that goes back centuries. Drawn towards each other, fantasising about each other in fact probably over all those years falling in love with each other but never have they acted on those feelings believing it was against the law. Tristan it turns out will be the pin that holds them all together as both men want him just as much as they do each other and they end up in a strange ménage.

There are other factors at work here though that none of them have yet realised that leaves Tristan in a very precarious position. The one person he thought he could trust most in the world maybe the worst person involved in his life and very soon it is far more complicated than having two lovers not of this world.

There are twists and turns all over the place but all the while these 2 men are falling further and further in love with each other. Mac is a perfect angel and sees the good in everyone but especially in his grumpy demon who believes he is undeserving of anyones love and is too scared to admit his feelings. When he finally admits them the situation is dire and it may well be too late as Mac is gone and Tristan is changing.

This is really a HFN ending with a rather large cliff hanger and I am looking forward to book 2 with baited breath and the hope that a certain demon gets his comeuppance!!

Alastor is a Demon and Machidiel is an Angel they both yearn for the other but they think it is forbidden when both of them fall for the same human Tristan they think they have found a way to be together without breaking the rules, but not everything is as it seems and they come close to losing Tristan forever. Tristan was drawn to both Alastor and Mac and was happy to be with them but jealousy makes him doubt how they feel for him, he has to believe in their love if he is going to survive.

Well what can I say but wow a brilliantly written story that is the perfect blend of heaven and hell with some twists thrown in for good measure. Tristan falls for both Alastor and Mac but he has doubts as to how they really feel for him, do they just want him as a way for them to be together or do they genuinely have feelings for him. Alastor has loved Mac for years but as a demon he doesn’t think he deserves to have him, with Tristan he begins to find happiness and a way to have Mac in his life but he feels jealous that Tristan always seems to go to Mac first. Mac is just happy to have both men in his life any way he can get them but something happens to disturb the balance and he has to make sacrifices not once but twice.

This is one hell of a story that has twists that you never see coming, the feelings of love between the three are good but when you have a Demon who won’t admit to love and a human who feels he is a substitute then you know the doubts will set in and some people will just take advantage of that, especially when that person has marked Tristan to become a demon. You can feel Tristan’s frustration that there is nothing he can do to stop the outcome no matter what he wants and then there is Mac and Alastor’s fear that Tristan will never remember them.

I think that these three will grow on you although there are times that you want to smack each one on different occasions, I think that you will also really want to smack Lawrence (Tristan’s friend) and you will grit your teeth at Tristan’s mistrust in Mac and Alastor, you will shake your head at Mac’s need to sacrifice himself time and again without telling anyone else and you will despair at Alastor’s belief that he isn’t redeemable and can’t admit his love to Mac and Tristan.

I will recommend this to those who love Angel’s and Demon’s, fantasy, twists and surprises, really hot sex, love, jealousy, temptation and an ending that lets you know there is more to come.

Well...I mean...it DOES have a kind of nice-looking cover, though...
(This is actually one of the only angel/demon covers that I actually kind of like on first sight. There are some photoshop disasters here and there, but they're not exactly glaring, so w/e, I guess.)

It was a study in "well...that escalated quickly..." and "O_o what's going on now?" and "wtf why the sudden reversal?" and nonesuch.

Umm...it wasn't bad? I had a major contention with a certain point, though:

Tristan Garrett thought the Halloween party at a local bar would be the perfect place to meet a potential boyfriend, so he agreed to accompany his only friend, Lawrence to the social gathering. Tristan glimpses demon Alastor standing across the room. Hoping to attract Alastor’s attention, Tristan moves to the dance floor but instead of Alastor, Tristan is joined by angel Machidiel. One night in the arms of Mac plus a year later in the arms of Alastor and Tristan is in love with two men each with mutual feelings for Tristan.

Between Heaven & Hell is the first book in the Heavenly Sins series. The fascinating plot is a sizzling romance intermingled with mystery, deception and a touch of amusing interaction between Alastor and Mac, who are both competing for Tristan’s affection. The trial ménage relationship is a first for all three of them.

Alastor is a demon capable of true emotions, making him rare among demons.
Alastor hates his demon form, but he is required to reveal his true self when summoned by the demon king. Alastor and Mac have shared an unrequited love for centuries, though being an angel, Mac is reluctant to break any heavenly rules. Alastor on the other hand cares nothing for rules, but he respects Mac.

Mac is always on a mission to save souls, especially Tristan and Alastor. However, Mac soon realizes his love for Tristan has impaired his judgment, thus creating a major dilemma that even Mac’s angelic powers cannot rectify.

Tristan is a good guy searching for a long term relationship with one man. He quickly discovers that he is able to equally love two men at the same time. Through no fault of his own, Tristan becomes trapped in a predicament that could cost him the lost of his soul.

L.M. Brown’s Between Heaven & Hell is a creative as well as an incredibly enjoyable good versus evil skirmish.

I have to say I just loved everything about this extremely sexy read. Between Heaven and Hell is the first book in L.M. Brown’s Heavenly Sins series. An all male menage between an angel, demon, and human. This is one hot book. Very sexy and definitely erotic.
Tristan is just a human out to have a good time on Halloween. Picking up a man to take home for a night of fun is nothing new for him. Mac is extremely hot and more than eager to go home with Tristan. Things just continue to get better when another sexy man tells Tristan they have a date the following Halloween.
After spending a year looking for the sexy man that gave Tristan the night of his life Alastor shows up at his door to put Mac out of his mind. Little does Tristan know that this will be the start of the most amazing thing to happen in his life. Mac and Alastor have a beyond complicated history. They know a good thing when they see it and they see Tristan as the thing that will not only bring them together, but keep them together.
The relationship is not all happy and smooth. All the men have thoughts of being the third wheel and thoughts of jealousy over one or the other seem a constant in the back of ones thoughts. The sex is mind blowing and they know the rest will work itself out… eventually.
Lastly I’d like to give a big thankyou to whoever made the decision to mention in the blurb of Between Good and Evil that it ends with a cliffhanger. I have decided to wait until I have Between Life and Death in my hands before I continue the series. I am very impatiently counting the days until that happens.
Final thoughts, if you’re looking for an erotic paranormal gay romance go grab this one. It is a great read and you’ll love these three men and their rocky road to a happily ever after!

This book was so damn hot!

You get a angel named Mac and a demon named Alastor and a human named Tristen mix that all together and the steam in this book was off the charts hot!
The way they all worked together and made sure none of the tree of them felt left out at all. When Tristen goes through what happens to him at the end of this book I just loved how Mac and Alastor were there for him through it all.
You get your angst with this as well as the sweet and the steam!
You also get your bad guy which excuse my language but Lawrence was a ass! I mean seriously everything he did to Tristen was just ugh! I really do not like Lawrence at all.
I loved the authors pretense of this story. L.M. Brown had be grabbed from the beginning of this book and I could not put it down. This ménage between these three men was so good!

All together I loved this book and thought it was a awesome start to this series!

I would definitely recommend this book!

An interesting story about an angel and demon (attracted to each other but unable to act) who end up falling for the same human and decide to start a three-way. Things progress from there with other demons, angels losing their wings and getting them back and a complex story which led up to.... the next book. I was kind of disappointed it wasn't a complete story, but I liked it well enough. I'll probably read the second to see how they resolve the conundrum at the end of this book.

Not bad, though a little boring as far as menages go. The chemistry among the three is off, I felt it only occasionally. The characters are really lovable though, I liked all three of them a lot. I'm no fan of that cliffhanger at the end there, but that's fine. I don't plan on reading the next book, but I'm not sorry I read this one. Like I said, all in all, not bad.

I liked this book. The cover is gorgeous of course, and thats what first attracted me, and the prologue is very intriguing. I liked the plot, and the three main characters, Mac, Alastor and Tristan, each with his own set of issues and problems. Looking forward to where the sequel takes us.

Good start

I've had this book for a while and I enjoyed it. Though the characters were somewhat cookie cutter it didn't take away from the plot. The sex was well written but I found myself skimming them after a while. Will read book 2

I am kind of impartial to this trilogy/series. Story plot is ok though I am really annoyed with Tristan. Maybe things would get better in the next installment.
