A quick read, great for kids about grade 3 and up. Lots of action, some fighting but no blood/maiming/killing, which is nice. Kind of like a Disney movie... ;) I didn't realize that this was 6th in a series, but it was pretty good on its own although it does reference the past books a few times. Strong male AND female characters.

Fun story about a young Jack Sparrow. If you love Pirates and Jack, then this is a fun read about the start of the story of how Jack became Jack. I like how they’re separate but continue the story well and connected

I read this entire series when I was a preteen or young teenager. I LOVED each and every one of these and I waited impatiently for each new installment.
Being an avid Disney fan and the POTC ride in Disney World is my favorite, and the POTC movies were among my most-watched movies, I could not contain myself when my dad found these for me in the book store.
Although I have not read them in years, I remember them fondly and I strongly recommend them to anyone who likes pirates, tie-in novels, or just exciting adventuress. I think these would be a hit for reluctant readers as well (even though I did not classify as a reluctant reader, these grab you quickly and are pretty easy to get into).

Having gotten out of New Orleans with Tumen's family's medallion and starting for the Yucatan, Jack and his crew are captured by Captain Laura Smith, who is Arabella's mother. Now Arabella wants answers and is not happy with what she is getting from her mother. When Jack overhears plots of a mutiny, he throws in with Captain Laura only to lose his first mate.

I enjoyed this story. It's short but a lot is happening between the pirates, mutiny, and the medallion. The crew is great and mysteries must be solved. We learn Tim Hawks' story and have to decide if he is true. The pirates of Captain Laura's crew are villainous and you know all will meet up again. I am looking forward to the meet-up and I want to see the medallion returned to Tumen's great-grandfather.

Hold up there, you. It's a shilling to tie up your boat at the dock... and I shall need to know your name. Jack Sparrow : What do you say to three shillings and we forget the name. Harbormaster : Welcome to Port Royal, Mr. Smith

The fun continues! I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn't wait to get my hands on Book 7. I'm sad there isn't an Audible version but the paperback will suffice - I have to know what's going to happen with Jack's crew. I'm hooked.

I highly recommend this series for younger readers. Not only does it feature the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow, but it also offers a unique and interesting origin story for the characters for fans who wish to get more of him! I was not disappointed in the slightest. It is definitely a good pick for Elementary and Middle School readers!

In this book Arabella is reunited with her mother, Laura. She and her mother don't get along. The crew tries to mutiny against the mother. Jack Sparrow displays some of his trademark cleverness. Overall, this book is a nice addition to the series.
