Each of the four animals in these four board books solves a problem after exploring various options. "A series of finely thought-out, beautifully illustrated concept board books for toddlers and their families."--The New York Times Book Review
Satoshi Kitamura was born in 1956. After dropping out of school to pursue art, Kitamura decided not to attempt a 10-year apprenticeship as a potter and instead worked as a graphic artist. He was not trained as an artist, but at the age of 19 began to do commercial work as an illustrator for adverts and magazines. He moved from Tokyo to London in 1979 where he worked mainly at designing greeting cards. Satoshi Kitamura has won several awards, including the Mother Goose Award, the National Art Library Award from the Victoria and Albert Museum, and a Nestle Children’s Book Prize Silver Medal. He lives in Japan.
If you have ever seen a sleepier cat than this without anesthesia being involved, I will give you $10. This was the first Satoshi Kitamura book we fell in love with, due to his amazingly expressive cartoons. We have this in board book format for little bitty kids, but if my son wanted to get rid of it, I'd put it in my own library. I'd also give it to cat-loving adults as a gift. It's so cute!
The other books in this series, such as Dog is Thirsty, are fine, but Cat is Sleepy is the best.
Very good indeed, only one small problem with it, cat can't sleep on the wall as it is full of cats. Fine. however, you can see out of the window on another page and the wall is empty! where did they go? Great pictures, loved all the stuff on the first page and the kitchen too.
It's not easy for cat to find the just right spot for sleeping! Poor Cat! Little ones will giggle at Cat's facial reactions and probably relate to the happy conclusion. A quietly entertaining before-nap board book.
