I’m so happy I finally read the original book that Coraline, one of my favorite movies, was based on! It was such a fun and cute read, with some intriguing differences from the movie that made it feel fresh. It was even more terrifying at certain points!

One thing that really shocked me was finding out that Whybie wasn’t originally in the novel. He was such a compelling character in the movie, and I really missed his presence in the book.

That said, I absolutely loved both the book and the movie. They each have their own unique charm, and I think they’re both so special in their own way. If you’re a fan of the movie and haven’t read the book yet, I highly recommend it, it’s a delightful and eerie little adventure!

I finally read Coraline, I get why people love the book so much. The Other Mother shows how controlling and possessive she really is, which is different from the movie where she doesn’t reveal that side right away. I liked how the book explores the difference between real love and fake love though I liked how it was portrayed in the movie better since at the start the other mother seems ‘perfect’ and she makes everything around her ‘perfect’ which isn’t realistic. The Other Mother gives Coraline everything she thinks she wants, but it’s obviously manipulative.
Even though I liked the book, I still prefer the movie. I’ve always loved stop motion films, and Coraline was probably the first one I ever watched as a kid. Reading the book was cool, but the movie is hella good and nothing can really top that?? The plot is good and I love how the ending is open to interpretation.
Wybie not being in the book was weird at first, because he kinda is important to the movie. The book is basically just Coraline talking to herself or to the cat, which is fine, but it’s nice in the movie to have someone her age in the story. I really love Coraline (both the movie and the book), and I kinda feel like me and Coraline have similar personalities. One quote I liked a lot was: “I don’t want whatever I want. Nobody does. Not really. What kind of fun would it be if I just got everything I ever wanted? Just like that, and it didn’t mean anything. What then?” (Pg. 118). If I suddenly had a ton of money and could get anything I wanted, I don’t even know if I’d want that. It takes the meaning out of everything.
Overall, the book was a good, but the movie is still my favorite.

After I had to cut my lovecraft reading short due to the very obvious racism, I decided to read this. I was deprived by horror so I was hoping this would give me that satisfaction. Which I think it did. Some of the stuff I read made me quite uncomfortable. And the illustrations didn’t help. But that was exactly what I was looking for. Quite the contrast to lovecraft.
I do recommend this book to young and old. Maybe not too young as it may hinder the nightly rest. Though it’s not too scary as to put an old person into cardiac arrest.
To put it short and sweet; great book, not racist, did give me a bit of the uncomfortable feeling and it’s not too slow to read. 10/10 would recommend

I bought this book a while ago because of the 2009 Coraline Film. I loved it so much that I wanted to read the source material and it did not disappoint. This book is definitely more eerie, but I liked every part of it. I still go back and read this book from time to time.

I will say that Coraline is really brave for her age because the Beldam is so scary ngl. I’m going to read this to my daughter when she’s old enough. Maybe she’ll love this book as much as I love it.

La trama tiene un buen ritmo y la verdad es muy diferente a la película, más específicamente en el área del "terror" ya que el libro resulta más oscuro que la película, por esto mismo provoca que te preocupes más por los personajes, más realista, me gustó más que la película

It's such a fantastic book and I'm so glad I read the original one and seen the difference from the movie and the book is just so much better and even darker which has made me enjoy it. Would recommend 100%

P.s I read it in Spanish and I'm so happy

Algunos detalles son más aterradores que en la película de Tim Burton, pero en otros pierde su esencia, sin embargo en lo personal me gustó más el libro

Good suspense. Easy read. Loved Gaiman's ability to make the reader envison the world as a child would.

I actually enjoyed this quick read. I loved the strangeness and creepiness of the movie. I was hoping the book would have that same feel, but it honestly wasn’t scary. But still fun to read.

Not what I thought it was gonna be, but still liked the dark way of the (already dark in my opinion) kids story.

A young adventurer who doesn’t like her parents ignoring her. She gets a chance for other parents. Who doesn’t want that sometimes. Was a cute story and lesson.
