This is really a book for children – abundantly illustrated with quite large writing and short sentences.

However it shows signs of having been compiled in a great hurry without review by a historian.
E.g. When Henry VI was ill, it relates that his brother Richard governed as Protector. But Henry had no brother called Richard, being the only child of Henry V and wife Catherine de Valois. The Richard that governed was Richard of York who was a second cousin.

Additionally it states that Richard III became Protector for the rightful heir Edward V, but neglects to mention that he disappeared, widely believed to have been murdered by Richard to secure the throne. This is one of the most famous incidents of the Plantagenet era, so to pass on this event seems strange – even kids need to know the truth!

The artwork in the book is good however, so the book could be useful for children to cut up and pin on history classroom walls – if they still do that sort of thing.

This fantastic book has been a lifesaver for me. It details the British history from the ice age right through to the second World War. I have learnt lots about varous historical points and it has deepened my knowledge in areas that I thought I knew!

This book is essential for anyone wishing to brush up on their British historical knowledge. It details the Kings and Queens of Britain with time lines depicting the changes of politics, exploration, technology, arts, religion and daily life.

This book would also be useful with KS1 and KS2 children for topics such as Queen Victoria, Crimean war, the Tudors and the Great Fire of London, World wars 1 and 2.

This is a good book that gives you an insight of what has happened in Britain. There a timeline on each page and there plenty of pictures. It doesn’t go in to great detail if there something particular you want to know about but it’s a good place to start for anyone that’s just getting in to history.
