Tove Jansson wrote and illustrated her first Moomin book, The Moomins and the Great Flood (1945), during World War II. She said later that the war had depressed her, and she had wanted to write something naive and innocent. Besides the Moomin novels and short stories, Tove Jansson also wrote and illustrated four original and highly popular picture books.
Jansson's Moomin books have been translated into 33 languages.

August 11, 2017This is going to be a project book for me. I found a copy of it at a used book sale and bought it for the Moomins. Unfortunately I do not read Russian and have no experience with the Cyrillic alphabet except to recognize it when I see it, so I'm finding a Cryllic keyboard program to translate it into the English alphabet and then taking that translation and using a Russian to English translator.
Not terribly difficult with all the programs online, but time consuming, and I hope it will result in a passing familiarity with reading Russian maybe? So far I got this for the title "Fantastic Stories of Scandinavian Writers" and possibly on the title page "Fairy Tales and Good Tales" but we'll see!

Для детской литературы книга приятно порадовала. В книги с точки зрения печати и сюжета в целом попадаются интересные илюстрации, а также есть активности для детей. Местами есть нравоучения, но в целом автор создает историю о дружбе и приключениях. Можна также узнать об элементах скандинавского фольклора вот как например семимилные сапоги.
