Mia Quinn is forced to deal with a love from her teenage years when she moves back to her hometown of Lonesome Way for the summer. She has no choice but to deal with Travis Tanner, as his ten year old adopted stepson Grady needs help that she as a teacher can supply. Mia is a caring, compassionate woman, as is seen in the way she reaches out to estranged family member Aunt Winny, her late grandmother’s sister. She also tries to help her niece Brittany by caring for her when she arrives without warning on Mia’s doorstep, hoping to stay the summer.
Former FBI agent Travis is also interesting as he seeks to set up his security business in Lonesome Way and help Grady however he can.
Trouble when it comes and it does, comes from someone only one of them suspects is capable of it. And even then, the lengths to which he will go surprise her.
I really liked Mia. She is compassionate, caring and kind. This is a romance, but it is also about abuse, family, friendship and community. I enjoyed it for what it what it was but the sex scenes didn't work for me. Those other themes were more appealing than the sexual relationship.
I had not read book 1 of the series but this book stands alone fine.
An enjoyable enough read but not sure I will persist with more of the series. But I am equally sure there will be plenty who will love it.

You know you found a new favorite series, when you look forward to reading about the characters again and being back in the small town of Lonesome Way. I like that each character is different and you get whose who based on their personality. That and there's a theme for each book. Plus it ties up loose ends or whatever arc is going on and I appreciate that. The covers I especially like. Gives an idea on what the setting is like and that the title has something to do with the storyline. Anyway, this was a pretty good sequel. Already want to read the next book.

Hmmmm, frankly, Larkspur Road was not a bad book, but it wasn't a wowzer either. It's actually a hard book to grade for me because it had some really good elements, but unfortunately, it suffered from one major flaw.

The good elements include likable characters and a very set-up, both relationship-wise and setting-wise. I actually thought the first couple of chapters were the best since readers were being introduced to Mia, Travis and Grady and all the connections. As I said, Mia and Travis were likable characters. I think one point in their favor is that they felt real and were very balanced. They didn't really have major conflicts with their lives. Yes, Mia was conscious of her biological clock ticking and the fact that she was a bit lonely, but it wasn't an obsession for her. As for Travis, he wanted to make some changes in his career and he did take the steps to. They were regular people that readers could relate to, could understand :) I also really enjoyed Travis' relationship with Grady, he was definitively a good father. He listened, encouraged and talked with Grady, making sure Grady knew he was there for him. He also stepped up when he was in disagreement with his ex-wife's decisions. He really considered Grady as his son, despite not being married to Grady's mother anymore and really stepped up and put his foot down when he was in disagreement with her decisions. I think that spoke highly of Travis' character and what a good man he was.

As I mentioned, I also very much liked the setting of the book. Yes, Lonesome Way could be considered as small-town, but it wasn't the focus here. I don't feel like Larkspur Road was marketed as a small-town contemporary romance which was a good thing in my opinion :)

The problem I had with Larkspur Road is I feel that not much happened... which actually is not the truth. However, nothing was developed, nothing was fleshed out, so that's why I feel that way. In a sense, it's almost like Ms Gregory spent too much time setting everything up at the right place and the right moment, but she ran out of time to develop them. So they happened, but none of it was fleshed out, it was all on the surface. For example, the romance between Mia and Travis. It's obvious that the two still have feeling for each other, but Mia is still holding a grudge against Travis and rightly so. And then, they run into each other a few times and voila, they are a couple again. I appreciate that Travis gave Mia an explanation about dumping her all those years ago and it really made sense and was realistic... but that was it. There was no further groveling from Travis, no working on the revelation from Mia's part - they were just back together. Same thing about Mia's estranged aunt. One or two gestures from Mia and decades of resentment and anger evaporate and the old lady is telling Mia everything. I also think the sense that nothing was happening was exacerbated by the timeline. If I read correctly, Larkspur Road spans about 3 to 4 weeks, maybe less. And I find it difficult for all these changes to happen in such a short timeline. So for me, this lack of development and events really killed the book ^_^; And it's really unfortunate, because it started out really well.

One last thing I'd like to add is I thought the whole storyline with Mia's niece was superfluous. I would have liked that storyline to not be in the book and therefore, Ms Gregory would have more time to focus on the others. It's not that it was bad, but it just didn't bring much to the book.

In the end, it's as I said earlier. Larkspur Road was not a bad book, but not a great one either.... but in the plus column, I would like to add Ms Gregory's writing :) She has a very nice style, a bit reminiscent of Jodi Thomas in the sense that it's very peaceful and I definitively will read more of her, given that her books have a bit more depth :)

Very good book. Travis has returned to Lonesome Way to live. He has brought his stepson along for the summer. Mia is looking forward to a nice quiet summer break. Instead, she gets Travis, her niece Brittany, and a family secret to discover. Travis would really like a second chance with Mia, but she wants nothing to do with him. He does manage to convince her to tutor his son which puts them in frequent contact. The attraction is immediate and intense. Mia also is trying to get to know her estranged aunt and bring the family back together. Mia is also dealing with her niece, who seems to be very much on edge. That problem brings some danger to them. I really liked both Travis and Mia. Travis knows how badly he hurt Mia when they were teenagers and has regretted it for years. He really wants a chance to apologize and see if they can move on from there. He is a really good guy which shows in how much he loves his stepson. I love the way that he has brought Grady to Montana and is determined to help him. He even goes to Mia and asks for her help in tutoring Grady. I love his patience in dealing with Grady and his problems and in getting Mia to trust him again. Mia is great too. I loved the way that she takes Brittany for the summer. She senses that there is something wrong and does her best to help. I love the way she is so supportive of her niece. Mia was not happy that Travis was back and was still angry over how he had hurt her all those years ago. She didn't let that stop her from helping Grady. She was great with him and I loved the way that she was able to help him get his confidence back. Her immediate attraction to Travis bothered her because she was afraid she would get hurt again. But the more time they spent together the more she realized that they were no longer the kids they had been the last time. Their relationship now was much better. I loved his proposal at the end. I loved Grady. He was a terrific kid and it was easy to see why he had his problems. I loved how he was determined to do what needed to be done. I was really happy with the solution that Travis came up with at the end. Brittany was a sweet girl that was trying to deal with a problem alone. When she finally came clean I loved the way that Travis and Mia were able to help her. The resolution of that problem was pretty scary. My heart really went out to Aunt Winny. She was such a miserable old grump at the beginning. I really loved the way that Mia didn't give up on her. When she finally told her story it was so sad. I loved seeing her open up and become part of the family.

Meh. It's really all I can say about this one. Hero comes back to town after a long absence and decides to get back together with his high school sweetheart, the heroine, who he Dumped Rather Cruelly when she was 16 (but we're never given any real details about what he said to her that was so awful). Heroine gives it a token You-Hurt-My-Feelings-You-Jerk try, but she's basically given up the ghost after two scenes together and his Amazing Kisses of Luuurv. There are several subplots, including the heroine's great-aunt and the feud she had with the heroine's grandmother, the hero's adopted son's attempts at getting better in school (also, I never understood what it added to the plot to make the boy adopted, unless it was just to show what a stand-up guy the hero was, adopting his step-son as his own), and the heroine's neice, who (MINOR SPOILER)

It wasn't a bad book, but I just finished it yesterday and I'm already forgetting details of the plot. I didn't come away with this with a warm fuzzy cushy feeling, just a why-am-I-not-more-satisfied-than-this feeling. I can't really put my finger on why I didn't enjoy this one more; possibly it was the lack of tension between the hero and heroine since I do tend to like a bit more tension - especially when the hero has done some Grade A screwing up in the past. Either way, I wish I'd been able to find this one at the library rather than having to buy it - it was worth the time I spent reading it and I'm not sorry I did, but I wish I hadn't spent the money.

Some of my favorite reading enjoyment is in small town romance series.' This series has been fun to read so far. There is romance, of course but there is also the secondary characters that are also around making the story that much more relative. Larkspur Road is a story of second chance for Travis Tanner and Mia Quinn. There is also two small subplots going on as well. The first including Mia's niece which I think the story would have been better without. The second subplot had to do with Mia's estranged aunt and a family secret. Personally, I enjoyed reading about that part. Mia is a school teacher on summer vacation just going through life lonely and unlucky with love. Lets say that Travis was her first experience with that bad luck. Travis is moving home after being away for years. He wants to settle in his hometown. Travis has come home with his ten year old stepson, who has some issues that need attention as well. Travis and Mia don't come together easily. Mia justifiably doesn't trust him not to break her heart again. I was happy for them when they got together however, I felt that Mia forgave too easily and I would have liked to see Travis grovel a bit more. Another small disappointment for me was the actual amount of book time Travis and Mia this had as a couple. There was too many other conflicts happening that, in my opinion, lessened Travis and Mia's time together. That being said, I still loved this book and will continue with the series.

Eh.

Not much of a struggle here in this second-chance romance. The hero and heroine are fairly stock and both oblivious. Especially to the stalker subplot, which is sort of out of character for a FBI agent!

Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Honestly had no opinion of this. It was all very bland.

Larkspur Road, Lonesome Way #2, by Jill Gregory
Grade: B+

“Don’t look so thrilled. It might go to my head.”

Larkspur Road is the second book in Jill Gregory’s Lonesome Way series and it is an amazing contemporary romance novel. This book picks up about a year after Sage Creek ends and is the story of Mia Quinn and Travis Tanner both of whom we met in Sage Creek. Mia and Travis was THE couple in high school and everyone thought they would get married including Mia. Everything changed when right after prom Travis breaks up with Mia and leaves town. Now twelve years later Travis is back and with him is his adoptive son looking for a fresh start and both he and Mia soon realize old feelings don’t always go away.

I was not a big fan of Sage Creek the first book in this series but I decided to give it a second try with Larkspur Road and I am so happy I did. This book is one of the best contemporary romance novels that I have read in a very long time and I am now sold on this series. There is a lot going on in this book besides Mia and Travis but it never feels overwhelming or cluttered. All three storylines are really great and they flow together perfectly.

I was a little nervous when I first started this book because I disliked the female lead in the last book but Mia is a great character and I really liked her. The relationship Mia has with Travis is very broken and heartbreaking but I loved seeing them try to work through their past. I wanted to hate Travis for what he did to Mia but I just couldn’t. The relationship he has with his son makes you fall in love with him and I just couldn’t hate him no matter how much I tried. I liked that Mia and Travis take things slow and don’t jump right back into things and they have a great romance.

There are two other storylines going on in this book. The first one involved Mia’s aunt and some family secrets. This was my favorite part of the entire book and it could have been a book all on it’s own. Without this storyline I don’t think I would have loved this novel as much as I did. The second storyline involves Mia’s niece Brittany and I could have done without this part of the book but it wasn’t horrible. Both storylines tied in great with Mia and Travis and kept things from getting boring.

This is a great contemporary romance novel and turning into a great, must read series. I’m not sure what’s going to happen next or what characters will be in the third book but I will be reading it. I can’t wait to see what happens in Lonesome Way next.

Mia Quinn was left broken hearted at 16 when 18-year-old Travis Tanner just up and decided to break things off with her and leave town. They were inseparable, in love, and he got cold feet. Mia has a happy life now, even with a failed marriage and a broken engagement. Shes looking forward to her summer off from her job as a fifth-grade teacher. Until Travis returns to town. Yup-he's back. And he's brought his adopted 10-year-old stepson Grady with him.
She's now going to have to face up to all those hurt feelings she's carried around, but also deal with feelings she may still have for him. Her tranquil summer in Lonesome Way, Montana is about to change.
Travis was tired of being an FBI agent. He's done with that life now. He's come home to fix up his cabin, plans on staying, and start up his own security company. He also wants Mia to tutor his troubled stepson. He realizes seeing her again he's never really forgotten about her, and once she decides to talk to him sparks begin to fly like they were never apart.
They begin a new relationship, possibly better than the one they had before. Is love better the second time around?

I read this so fast I knew it would end good! Lots of people to like in this one, all of Travis's family, Rafe, Sophie, Lizzie. Travis and Mia of course! Grady's storyline is sad. Forgotten by his mother when she remarried, left to believe he's a loser. He's actually a really smart, nice kid.
Can't wait for next book!

This western romance set in Montana was a quick and sweet read. I loved the ranch, and small western town setting as well as the close knit characters. This was truly an escape into this love filled, romantic setting of a Montana ranch. Just fun!

I decided to DNF because I wasn't in the mood for a multi-character with many POVs (4 had been written by 30% mark) and a possible suspense plot line in the future. There were too many plot lines to wrap my tires brain around!

3.5

The author tries to fit too many problems into one book and doesn't really wrap them up in a satisfying way. I would have loved to "hear" the conversation between Travis and his ex about their son coming to live with him.

This is a decent, contemporary romance. It is short and simple with minimal character development. But for a quick beach read, it will do.

Larkspur Road (Lonesome Way #2) by Jill Gregory Travis and Mia have a broken past that needs healing so they can move forward. Can a first love end up being your last love forever? They're not the only ones in Lonesome Way whose story will touch your heart. And if you're a quilter, you'll love this one!

Travis Tanner goes back home to Lonesome Way, Montana to consider a new start after the death of his partner. Taking a leave of absence from the FBI, Travis is searching for something more than life away from his family. His adopted stepson hasn't been doing well living with his mom and new stepdad, so Travis agrees to have ten-year-old Grady spend the summer with him at Sage Ranch. Grady just isn't the same kid Travis remembers, and he realizes Grady's problems are deeper than bad grades and a few fights.

Mia Quinn has never recovered from the day that Travis Tanner broke it off with her when she was sixteen. There have been others since him, including a now ex-husband, but they never replaced her feelings for Travis, nor healed the pain of their breakup. A teacher and a quilter, Mia has filled her life with projects, including the upcoming annual quilting fundraiser. Finding out that her sister needs a place for her daughter to stay while she's honeymooning, Mia readily accepts the chance to spend the summer with her teenaged niece.

Travis and Mia have a past history together as a couple and it's apparent from the beginning that they belong together, even if they haven't realized it yet. There are hurt feelings to sort out, but where they really seem to soar together is in helping everyone else around them, which in turn proves how well they complete one another. I rooted for them both throughout the story because they were so cute together, but I especially thought Mia deserved Travis.

Even though I enjoyed Travis and Mia's love story very much, the secondary characters stole my heart. First of all, Grady is such an adorable kid who really needs a chance to prove himself in Lonesome Way. Brittany, Mia's niece, is in more trouble than any of them imagine and her story amps up the suspense. The most heart wrenching character is Aunt Winny. When she finally decides to tell her story and make amends, find your tissues because this is one of the most touching stories I've ever read.

You can easily read LARKSPUR ROAD as a stand-alone novel, but SAGE CREEK , book one, will introduce some of the characters lightly mentioned in book two and set up the town a bit more for series lovers.

LARKSPUR ROAD threads people's lives like a well-loved quilt, scraps of this and that, created over time into a warm blanket of love, mended as the years go by while cradling the dreams of past and present. Jill Gregory knows a quilter's heart and tells their stories as if they're her own. Beautiful!

I can't give Jill Gregory less than 5 Stars!
I love how Jill Gregory includes the younger generation into her stories.
When I want to go on an adventure all I have to do is read Jill Gregory's work. She has so much action in her fast paced books.
The only thing that leaves me disappointed in this book is how much time was wasted between Travis and Mia.
So far I'm loving this series and the Tanner brothers!

I was looking forward to this second book in the Sage Creek series and I wasn't disappointed. I feel this book is a book about second chances. The second chances that come by family, love and friendship. The author did an awesome job of expressing anguish, pain and love either by the thoughts the characters were thinking or the actions you followed in their journey. I loved all of the references to the country music groups, made you feel like you were there, in the moment with the characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone that needs a great contemporary comfort read. (On a side note, Travis starts his own security company in this book, full of Navy SEALS....I am seriously hoping that turns in to a new Romantic Suspense series....HINT HINT).

I would give this one 3.5 stars. Much better than the first one in this series. I also knew the cowboys would be in polo shirts and there would be no snow in the story. She pulled off the suspense scene far better this time, but I feel she is not comfortable writing these scenes. Her treatment of Val seemed very odd. Once Mia picked up on Grady's emotional abuse and potentially that of his mom, the subject disappeared. Annoying.

Larkspur Road is book 2 in Jill Gregory's Lonesome Way series, it was a quick, easy, sweet read ... a great summer book.

Travis Tanner left Mia Quinn just after prom, he broke her heart and now years later has returned to fix his family and to see Mia Quinn.

Mia Quinn can ignore Travis, and spend her summer with her niece and try making headway with her Aunt Winney an ornery old bird.

I give this book a high 3.5 stars.

I love this one. and now that I am done and wondering when the next one is coming out. Be sure you have tissue when you read it. I was crying towards the end.

Liked...the theme that as we age a bit we can get wiser, thru every book in this series is the idea that a person can change and grow. Family is a strong theme. Dogs and kids are present. Not a culinary book but food plays a part.

Didnt....as in te first book in series skimmed a bit.

Pleasant light romance
