When a young Apache man is found hanging from a tree on Cat Mountain, Sheriff Jim Weber and FBI agent Larry Parks go on the hunt for the killers and by the time their investigation is over, the idealistic cover is ripped from the little mountain town of Big Lake, revealing old prejudices, resentments, and hatred.
In their search for justice, Sheriff Weber and Parks encounter Native American activists, a kinky couple whose passion burns as hot as their tempers, a teenager with excess baggage, and a father and son team of small town bullies, to name just a few.
Many of the characters that made the original Big Lake book are back, along with some new ones readers will remember for a long time.
One reviewer has referred to the Big Lake mystery series as “Mayberry Meets Twin Peaks." It’s a combination of humor and intrigue that launched author Nick Russell’s first Big Lake book into Amazon’s 100 Top Paid Kindle books for over 60 days, and Big Lake Lynching is sure to be a hit too!
The Big Lake plots are okay but the ongoing talk of everyone wanting to have sex with whoever has turned me off. So has the constant childish behaviors of other characters particularly the mayor. His son Archer is made out to be a complete imbecile. Then there is Marsha she is so sex-starved and has no shame in hiding it I groaned everytime her character was part of the story. I can go on about other characters but I got better things to do than rehash it all out. The so-called funny/ humor is just that if your maybe an adolescent.
I'm a big fan of mystery series small-town sheriff second only to Scotland Yard so I had high hopes for the Big Lake series but the writing style is simply too immature for my liking.
Once again time to search for a new series or return to an old one that I stopped reading. It really would be nice to find a truly hard to put down page turner without sex, vulgarity, and gore.
Not crazy about the sometimes disgusting banter between several characters in the
book. I like the genre of this story and have read hundreds of books and that kind of language is not necessary. I am not a prude, in fact I was a police officer for five years. I believe that if your stories are good you can stop that language. Tone it down
To give Nick Russell's books, anything less than five stars. Each book has been awesome! Each, a little different than the last or it would get pretty boring. Each story deals with a murder or murders. What is different, with each book, is how sheriff Weber solves the murder and about the people of the town. Some sure can get themselves into some situations. There's humor. A mention of romance. Nothing explicit. No bad language. Quite a bit of humor. Weber's humor can come, when you least expect it. Which makes it all that much funnier. When I finish one book, I get another, right away. Read Nick Russell's books!! I highly recommend them. Thank you Nick for having your books in Kindle Unlimited.
When the Sheriff's department is called to the scene of a horrific murder, it not only affects the officers, but the entire town. While they investigate the murder, several other situations occur in rapid order, and it's taking everything the officers have to keep up with the chaos. Throw in protesters, out of town reporters, a mayor and his side kick stirring up trouble, and so much more ~ it makes for a wild, crazy, and intriguing story. I would recommend this book, series, and author.
Sheriff Weber has been called to a crime scene - a tree out by Big Lake where a young Indian male has been found lynched and scalped. What follows are confrontations between the activists from the nearby Apache reservation and upset townspeople as the hunt for the killer lingers on. Small town prejudices and big city problems brought to the flourishing resort town are only some of the problems Sheriff Weber must deal with while finding the perpetrator.
This is the second book in this series. I really like these characters, and the plots are quite unique and are well-developed. There are a few editing issues that should have been caught before publishing - notable apostrophe misuse, who/whom errors, and several wrongly-used words (one example I remember: “...stretching to unlimber his frame.”
You gotta read the first Big Lake, then this one. The first introduces you to the characters. Gets the ball rolling... Big Lake Lynching is very suspenseful, with great characters ! It has lots of funny moments thrown in and a little romance. It's a fully developed story, it will keep you reading and guessing. Can't wait to read the next one.
Rereading the book and I am not sure if I can remember the last time I read it. Nick s a GREAT writer and even though I have read it before,I was surprised at how the book and people in it are so life like that you feel like you are standing in the middle of the conversation. Keep writing Nick and I am waiting for the next book from you
THOSE MOORE’S ARE THE FAMILY FROM HELL, THEY BELONG ON THE FEAR THY NEIGHBOR, TV SHOW. IT’S FUNNY HOW GRATEFUL THE PEOPLE OF BIG LAKE ARE WHEN JIMMY DOES GREAT THINGS PROTECTING THE CRAZY TOWNSFOLK AND HOW QUICKLY THEY FORGET, WHEN THE NEXT LOAD OF TROUBLE COMES, ITS LIKE YOU’RE A TERRIBLE SHRERIFF YOU SHOULD BE FIRED, WHAT A BUNCH OF UNGREATFUL BUTTLICKS. ;D
The sheriff is definitely a seat of the pants lawman that creates nearly as many problems as his position is required to analyze. He seems to lumber from one situation to the next without a clue as to how he got there. The tales expand the perception of small town locals.
This book was good. There were some very funny parts in there that I read out loud to my husband. We laughed so long and loud it was pathetic. He wants to read them next. It's nice to share a good writer and good books. Can't wait for the next one!
I enjoyed the book a lot. I enjoyed the chuckles throughout all the while not wanting to put the book down so I could find out what happen next. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone who enjoys a good read.
I'll read another but I'm not quite sold on this series yet. And hire an editor - there was a "than" where there should have been a "then," a "between" when it should have been "among." The little things matter.
I love the Big Lake story line and all the characters. I have no doubt that I will continue reading the entire series but.... I am struggling with all the spelling and grammar errors. A demerit would make it all the more enjoyable.
I truly enjoyed this story. Like the first book, this one follows the Sheriff as he goes about protecting his town. However, this one really captures the characters and you feel like you're going along with them instead of just reading about them.
I liked the Sheriff's sticking too the case to the end in spite of the chance to take the easy way and allowing the guilty parties to stay free. And oh the twists and turns
The first two books of this series have me hooked I've put this on my number one author. I love a Mystery, the Characters became real and it was very difficult to figure the Plot. My favorite kind of store.
I love this story in series that I am looking forward to reading. Sheriff Weber is honest and hard working. The mayor is a waste of time. You will enjoy reading this detective story of a lenching in a small but growing town.
As an adult male, I find it simply impossible to believe that a sworn law enforcement officer would spend so much time crying /having tears in his eyes as Weber does. For God’s sake Jimmy, grow a pair 😎
I hoped that this book would be less cliched but it wasn't. I will try the next one but some of these characters need to grow up....and there are far too many ladies hitting on the sheriff. I must say it is a fast read though.
Intense action in Big Lake! An Indian is lynched and all around people are using it as an excuse to cause trouble. Sheriff Weber has his hands full and then some. Best book I have read all year.
