How cool! The Cat and Co. time-travel to the Great Ice Age! The Cat in the Hat visits with Ice Age mammals on a whirlwind tour of the Pleistocene! From ground sloths as big as elephants to bears as heavy as Volkswagens, the Cat introduces young readers to mastodons, mammoths, woolly rhinos, saber-toothed cats, giant horses, and lots more—including humans! In addition, young readers will learn basic facts about the Great Ice Age and early human life, the characteristics of mammals, and the study of fossils. Ideal for supporting the Common Core State Standards and a natural for fans of the hit PBS Kids show The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!, this is a great way to introduce beginning readers to science!
BONNIE WORTH is the author of countless books for young readers, among them the Cat in the Hat Learning Library books If I Ran the Rain Forest, HarK! A Shark!, Oh Say Can You Seed? (winner of the 2003 Ohio Farm Bureau Award), Wish for a Fish, Oh Say Can You Say Di-No-Saur?, Would You Rather Be a Pollywog?, Ice Is Nice!, and Safari, So Good!
I really love the 'Cat in the Hat's Learning Library' books, but this one was utter garbage and I did not like it Sam I am. It is supposed to be about prehistoric mammals - but seriously it was boring as hell. It seemed as though that there was more to the animals mentions, and that is was just heavily edited. The illustrations were excellent - hence the 2 stars.
A rhyming educational book about prehistoric mammals, including humans. My kids found it fascinating. But if your kids are sensitive about the fact that animals had to die to become fossils, this isn't the book for them.
Interesting book about prehistoric times (mostly ice age) that incorporated Dr. Seuss type rhymes. It was definitely wordy and lengthy, a bit too long for a 4 year old. However, we learned some fun facts and the illustrations were nice as well. Overall, 3/5 stars ⭐️
Decent. Clearly Bonnie Worth is no Dr. Seuss as the rhymes weren’t great. Some of the information is not correct so I skipped over. But there are some decent facts here and there.
Read to my children as part of the California curriculum by Beautiful Feet Books. It had some fun information but it did not have as much information as other Cat in the Hat books we’ve read.
Most ancient creatures books stick to dinosaurs but not this one! Once Upon A Mastodon teaches about prehistoric mammals, with awesome art and typical Seussian rhyme. There's some tricky words to read aloud but the rhymes don't hinge on getting them right most of the time, so you've got some wiggle room.
