Enduring Retribution

Rate this book
Bailey Morrison isn’t human. She is a beauty, with all the right parts to make up a stunning woman but there is so much more of her. She is also a hired killer to the Queen of all magick.

Her DNA ~ mixed up like a lethal cocktail gives her abilities unlike anyone has ever seen. And when she is to help Pete Marshall, computer wiz for a pack of wolves, she gets involved with Aaron and his kiss of vampires as well.

Tristan St. James likes order. He lines things up in neat rows, sharpens pencils to the exact height and he wears a tie to everything. He is aghast with state of Aaron’s office and won’t even go inside.

Bailey doesn’t want a mate, especially one as uptight and anal as Tristan. He thinks his life is just peachy the way it is. But something so…primal about the young woman messes with his order and he isn’t thrilled about it until he has a taste of her. She risks everything, including her life just to keep him safe.

There’s a contract out on the Alpha. Without Bradley’s death then Aaron and his new family die. So Bailey does the only thing she can. She takes the life of one to save so many.

What will Tristan do now that his mate is a wanted criminal?

Now I remember why I put this box set down. Repetitive plot syndrome.
Heroine with strong powers is antagonist towards everyone.
Hero doesn’t want a mate but mates her to save her life.
Foot in mouth disease from hero causes heroine to run off, often.
Once again full of silly errors any decent proofreader should have picked up.
The stupid thing is I quite liked both stubborn Bailey and stupid Tristan as characters.
The annoying part was the author gives them a knowledge of the other that they just could not have had. They haven’t once had a decent conversation. Every time Tristan opened his mouth, he angered Bailey and she would take off. So there really was just no communication between them, that gave them any personal information about the other. So how did Bailey know that Tristan would like the field of flowers.
Griff was very special.
I knew who was going to be a problem in this story and she was. But that doesn’t take away from what a good ending this was with everything that came out.
Reread in the box set.

I know in my previous review of 'Burden of Reckoning' I stated I thought these books in Kathi S. Barton's series "Aaron's Kiss" just kept getting better and better. I just finished book five, 'Enduring Retribution' and it proved my point. With the addition of new characters, we have, Patrice Skidmore, Lady Skidmore of the Royal House of Vampirism, who is tutoring Mac with how to control his Necromancer powers, her best friend since childhood, Tristan St. James the fifth, Patrice’s oldest friend for almost four hundred years, both of them belonging to the Royal House of Vampirism, Bailey Morrison, a woman of many talents and powers, assassin extraordinaire and owner of Fine Printings, Inc. along with her brother Tyler Dunn, and her protector, a Cynogriffin called Griff. I've learned long ago that Fate and an author have wicked senses of humor but sometimes I think they outdo themselves. Such as in this instance: Bailey is on an assignment and she winds up being hurt so badly she's going to bleed out and die. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, Sara is the one who finds her and immediately gets ahold of Aaron through the link for help. He can't leave and get to Paris fast enough so he sends Tristan. Mild-mannered Tristan who is anal in his fastidiousness, not only of his person but any area he comes in contact with realizes he's been called to help his fated mate. Fireworks become the norm with these two as the story unfolds along with another character who believes Sara to be bossy and pushy. LOL Twists and turns abound, new discoveries, new magical beings, an assassin for hire jobs, blackmail, and of course the chemistry between Bailey and Tristan. The intrigue continued to build as I followed the clues throughout the plot. Once again, I'm anxious to start 'Fated Absolution', the next book in the series.

As with all Ms. Barton's stories, they get better and better as they progress. Tristan and Baily are quite a pair. He is so OCD it is funny and she doesn't fit into his orderly world. Being an assassin gives Bailey a purpose, she is secretive, focused and doesn't need or want a mate. Tristan goes to help a member of Aaron's kiss and was surprised to find his mate is the one who needs saving. These two will have to overcome their differences and the choices that they make may tear them apart. Another strong female character that takes no prisoners and a male that's not sure what to make of their mate makes for some fun reading. I love that the other males make fun of each other and the woman are hilariously pushy. Fast paced, easy to follow, great characters and an engaging storyline. Danger, drama, betrayal, humor and new interesting situations keep you turning the pages. There is never a boring moment when you read one of Ms. Barton's tale . I look forward to the next adventure.
I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion.

Book 5 of the Aaron kiss series has got to be the second best because I refuse to take away from Aaron & Sara the ones that have brought this series to life. The main characters in this story, Tristan & Bailey were so real and meant in every way to be with each other. I loved the kindness that Tristan felt and showed to Bailey. She is a hitman and very good at her job and he is a vampire that has a very tender heart. Bailey was very accepting of Tristan and his neat freak ways. The love and understanding amongst them was felt and the words were beautifully written. I must say that this story had me feeling all emotions the characters did and I truly enjoyed this one. This is a definite love story that can’t go unnoticed. I personally can’t wait for more from “The Kiss”.

I downloaded this book as a freebie. I almost gave up on it after the 1st couple chapters but I am glad I didn't.

I loved the story of Bailey & would love to see her backstory. You completely fall in love with Tristian & his OCD personality. I liked that Bailey was kind of a mixture of all the beings. I also like that she is a bad ass.

Don't want to give to much away with this review. I was a little confused with the names. I love names that could go either way with gender but these were interesting. Bailey (girl), Sam (girl), Pete (girl) Shade (girl) Tristan (guy). That is what almost lost me with the beginning. I think I would have liked it more if I started this series from the beginning. I believe this was Book #5.

About the Author

I woke up one morning and decided to give play time to the people in my head who were keeping me awake. Little did I know that they would be so relentless and want their time right now! I wrote for the pure joy of it and to entertain my family and friends. But mostly it was to get more than an hour of sleep without a story playing out. Of course, the more I write, the more they want. So…well, as a result of sleepless days (I work through the night as a gun toting grandma – nope not a vigilantly but an armed security guard) I have lots of stories written. Hello! My name is Kathi Barton and I’m an author. I have been married to my very best friend Sonny for at times seems several lifetimes – in a good way, honey. And together we have three wonderful children and then the ones we brought into the world - Paul and Dale Barton, Jason and Wendy Barton and Danielle and Ben Conklin. They have given us seven of the greatest treasures on Earth. They don’t live at home seven days a week! No, seriously, seven grandchildren – Gavin, Spring, Ben, Trinity, Sarah, Kelly and Kian.

Bailey and Tristan are probably my favorite book so far in the series!

Bailey is a mortal, but she's not human. In the lab she was created she was given a deadly cocktail which made her into the hired killer she is now. But she doesn't kill just anyone, only those given the penalty by the Queen of Magik herself. On an assignment of revenge, to kill the man who murdered her brother, she meets Pete who just can't take no for an answer.

Tristan St. James is a very neat and clean game maker. There is never a time he's not dressed immaculately in suits, nor is his work space ever messy. But ever since he met Bailey his world has been turned upside down and he's seeing that not a little chaos in one's life isn't so bad.

When Bailey is given an ultimatum to either kill the Alpha, Bradley Wolffe or she will be responsible for the death of the MacManus kids and Aaron's mate. Will they be able to figure out who is trying to ensure Bailey is killed or will time not be on their side?

Creatures of All Kinds!

Bailey & Tristan are the couple in this story & I was pulled into this story so fast that I finished it in 1 day. Bailey is an assassin for hire by The Mistress of Magic; Tristan is a vampire of royal blood & they meet when Pete accidentally throws her off a balcony & onto the ground below causing lots of life threatening injuries. Tristan comes to give her his blood so that she doesn't die & can start healing & that's when he knew what Bailey was to him; his mate. They kind of have sex in a public place which is how they became permanently bonded to each other (they also get kicked out of that place too). They have their ups & downs in finding that each other are in love & of course there is that 1 person that has an evil plot in this book that eventually gets their do but that comes more at the end of the book. This book is a HEA story with lots of sex scenes & some violence but it WAS excellent.

OK you'd think it was obvious but I was really relieved when the alpha turned out to be alive. The blurb had me totally convinced that Bradley was a goner.

Few questions: cynogriffin? Half-wolf, Half-eagle and immortal was he a shifter or not?
Why is it that Tristan has multiple nieces and nephews? In Blood, Body and Mind Aaron says that only rarely do vampires have children and usually only if the female is a recent turn. Is it a pureblood thing or did the author just decide to change the rules?

Bailey works for the Queen of All Magick as a hitman. She has abilities like no other. Tristan St James is a Vampire who likes everything neat and in order. He can't believe how bad Aaron's office looks. Tristan knows that Bailey is his mate when he is called to heal her by Pete. When Bailey gets a contract to kill the alpha wolf to save the life of Aaron and his family - will she do it? Will she kill one to save many? How will Tristan handle that his mate is a wanted criminal? Definitely would recommend as a must read.

After the first couple of books I was not sure I was going to keep going in this Series (not that they were bad; just not as great as I was told. And we all know how our TBR piles keep just getting bigger). But I'm so glad I did. They keep getting better and better! You become involved with this very fun Vampire/Magic/Were Family as it grows.

This book and the entire Aaron's Kiss Series has fascinating characters, excitement, action, and romance. They are all easy to follow and flow very nicely. As is every book this author writes. I love how each character has a detailed background and makes in an appearance in other books through out the series. Must read!

Bailey and Tristan could not be more polar opposites than the North and South Poles. Bailey is a hired killer for the Queen of all Magic and she has chaos in her life where as Tristan likes to have order and routine. Their mating could not cause more frustration and excitement for the reader to go through.
