A friends to lovers tale, filled with love and emotion and finding true love at last.
Loved the settings - San Francisco & Thailand...so vividly written that I could feel myself in Chiang Mai again.

#RitaYates

This is classic Maisey Yates, and I really enjoyed it.What's not to love when our heroine Clara is a baker of cupcakes and all things so ,so sweet. The story opens with the Hero,Zach being jilted on his wedding day and Clara, his friend and bussiness associate there for him.She also baked his wedding cake.Clara has been in love with him for the seven years that they have worked together, she is a wife to him in all things except for the sex.As his honeymoon was supposed to be a working one,he now needs a wife to sweeten the ownwer of a coffee/tea concern. He makes her a proposal and she counter acts with telling him that she will do this one last thing for him ,then she will leave because she wants to open her own bakery.Zach, being the H,is totally oblivious of her feelings for him.He has a darkness in him preventing him from any form of commitment to anyone,he did not even love his fiancee. There was a terrible tradgey in his past when he was a young boy of sixteen that changed him and made him grow up soon.I love workplace romances, then throw in friends to lovers theme. This book handled them beautifully.Very nice sexual tension between the two characters. There were a few instances where I could have cheerfully smacked Zack over the head for being a total ass,he just did not think.Enjoyable read,4.5****.

If you know an absolutely gorgeous man who is hiding dark tragic secrets and a broken heart, this is what you do. Send him along to Maisey Yates and she will find him the perfect heroine to put in his life to heal him and bring out the best in him. He will grow and mature and be really really incredibly hot in bed. Not that the last bit is important. Really it isn't. I'm telling you this for your own good.
Zack Parson is not one of those broken men that need fixing. Because he fixed himself years ago and he knows exactly how to keep control. Firstly, you don't do "Love". That's a no brainer, because love makes you lose control. So when you meet someone who might threaten that you slot them into a neat box under "friend" or "employee". You stick with that because that is how you stay in control.
That's what Zack did when he met Clara Davis in a bakery seven years ago and realised she was everything he ever wanted or needed. For his business. She really had the goods and none of it was to do with her sinfully sexy body which he could carefully ignore, but all about the cupcakes. The baked ones of course. Keep your mind out of the gutter puhlease.
Somehow in those seven years Clara also became his best friend. Which makes it quite natural for him to think of her when he needs a replacement for his Fiancée when she left him at the altar. To take on his honeymoon. NO! You are doing it again aren't you. It is a purely business arrangement. Really! Seeing Clara in the surrounds of a romantic holiday resort is not going to change anything. Or is it?
This is a classic friends to lovers romance and in Maisey Yates inimitable way she gives us all the emotion and angst we could possibly want as these two friends struggle with the fallout of taking that friendship beyond the boundaries already set.
There are laugh out loud moments and gutwrenching revelations and we are with both Zack and Clara all the way to the end. I love Maisey Yates stories. No matter how miserable they make me in the middle as I empathise with the pathos and misery and suffering, they always leave me feeling really good at the end.

With a friend like this who needs an enemy?
She specifically told him she doesn't do affairs. She was his friend for gods sake, if not his best friend! Yet he deliberately USED her like a whore then treated her like a whore, then when that wasn't enough, called her his mistress.
This is a guy who has demanding she reorganise her whole life for him because he is her friend!
When she told him she was his friend when he treated her like a whore, he basically told her no, she's not. She's his mistress.
Then when he needed something from her the very next day, he once again resorted to the emotional blackmail with "I'm your friend".
Well friend don't fuck friends like whore and then tell them to get dressed the moment they are done so that they can kick them out!
He used her over and over throughout the whole seven years of the friendship!
She figured it out and gave it to him in plain English, yet couldn't remember that after about 10 sentences?
Which part of he's a selfish bastard who needs therapy NOT hot sex did you NOT get woman? What the hell happened to that backbone that you were finally getting? Go get some calcium supplements and go have some ONS! Seriously! Anyone BUT this guy!
He gave you his ex fiancée's abandoned ring, offered to marry you because that way he get to control you AND fuck you. He JUST said it that he'll do that so that you'll give him what he needs!!!!!!!
And you're melting at the sight of really poor baking job?
Hell! There was not even grovelling not that any amount of grovelling would make him redeemed as a friend let alone hero!
This guy has to be amongst one of the most selfish ones I've read about! And he kept on referring to "friendship"! Thank god I have very few friends if this is what friends look like!

Zack and Clara have been best friends for years. Only Clara is secretly crazy in love with Zack from the first moment she laid eyes on him. When Zack's fiancé calls off the wedding he travels to Thailand for a business deal and he takes Clara with him. There they embark on a steamy affair, Clara falls even deeper in love with him but Zack is very reluctant to commit.

Very emotional read. My heart broke for Zack's loss. He really is a broken man who is haunted by his son's death and is very afraid to give, to care or open his heart again. Clara was extremely patient with him and I wanted her to make him grovel more in the end but once again her love is unconditional and not selfish. Gotta say I thought it was adorable how he baked pancakes to win her heart no matter his lame cooking skills. These two were just too cute together!

Unrequited love. Friends-to-lovers. Workplace romance. Fake engagement. All in the same elegant package. With loads of tension and emotions.
Sweet virginal Clara has loved Zack since she was 18y old. When she started working with him, he extending his coffee shops worldwide and she creating her delicious cakes. But seven years later, he is her boss and her best friend nothing more and she fights hard to hide her feelings from him and from herself.
Clara has lots of insecurities regarding her body. She is not tall and slim like her mother and sister, and her mother never let her forget that.
Zack has a cool exterior, nothing ruffles him, he never loses control, even when he is jilted at the altar by his convenient fiancee. But, inside, there is some darkness lurking. He had a terrible experience at the age of 16 and he stirs away from love.
The exotic setting is the perfect backdrop to the one night that changes their relationship forever. It's impossible for them to go back to their old friendship. But can they go forward ? If Zack is not willing to overcome his fear and let go of his legendary control he risks to lose the most important thing in his life : Clara.

Hannah, the runaway bride, has her own story in Game of Vows. Interesting .

The hero Zack has just been jilted but his best friend Clara, the heroine, notices he is a long way from being heartbroken. Zack confides in her that it had never been a love match, which he doesn't realise hurts Clara. Clara has had feelings for Zack for a while and finally begins to realise that her comfortable friendship with him is only making it more difficult to move on. However she promises to travel to Thailand, on what should have been Zack's honeymoon, to help him secure an important business deal. When they arrive and Zack tells her that they need to pretend to be a couple he doesn't understand Clara's angry, almost hurt reaction. But the beautiful surroundings and their time together makes them both realise that underneath their friendship is much more, including a fierce desire for one another. They indulge in their passion for one night, but the need doesn't go away when they are back in the read world. And the more time Clara has to spend pretending, the more her heart breaks.

This is a really beautiful book, definitely one of my favourites from Maisey Yates. I have always been a fan of the friends-to-lovers theme, and it is done perfectly in this book. There is some great dialogue between the hero and heroine, they bounce of each other brilliantly and the chemistry between them positively crackles.
The surroundings are vividly portrayed and really intoxicating, the perfect backdrop to the relationship. Both the hero and heroine have well thought out, 'real' issues and they are dealt with well. The writing flows beautifully, it's full of passion and fun as well as plenty of emotion and angst - I felt every one of the heroine's tiny heart breaks.

I also felt that there was more to be told about the hero's former bride-to-be, and I'm pleased that Maisey confirmed that she has her own story (will be out later in the year, called 'A Game of Vows')!

Really, really enjoyable. Recommended.

The hero has been jilted and the heroine is his best friend and he's starting to look at her a little bit differently than he use to. Who knew the heroine had such a gorgeous figure and kick butt legs? When the heroine fakes being the hero's fiance, things heat up..

It was well written and emotional the two main characters were great together, even through their not so great times.

Tacco12 - per RFS
.

Come andrà a finire lascio a voi scoprirlo.

Clara and Zack's story is so delicious - just like her cupcakes! Jilted on the day of his wedding, Zack asks his friend Clara to accompany him as his fake fiancee to help his business. From that point, we know where we're going but in Maisey's skilled hands, we enjoy a new route to the happy ever after. She makes it an interesting and totally satisfying journey. I loved it.

A fantastic read. One Night in Paradise is a delightfully written friends to lovers story. Sticking to the recipe theme as Clara Davis and Zack Parsons work together to create the perfect coffee and cake combinations, Maisey Yates has written a clever measure of self restraint, a heap of longing, a liberal sprinkle of humour, a taste of heartbreak and a huge dollop of sexy! All mixed together perfectly.
When the sexy man of her dreams, who happens to be her best friend and her boss, Zack Parsons finally slips a ring on Clara's finger and whisks her away she should be the happiest woman alive - right? Wrong. Not only is it a pretence but Clara is wearing the ring of Zack's stick thin very recently ex-fiancee!
Zack knows he can rely on best friend Clara, but can he trust himself when he gets to see the curves she hides behind her apron. Sexy Clara gets under his skin so much that he even reveals the secrets of his past heartache. All the more reason to stick to his marriage without love rule.
A very sweet, yet emotional read. Loved it!

Story was very well done, with a satisfying ending. One star off only because I prefer it when heroes know they are head-over-heels (even if the heroine doesn't), but that's a personal preference. Still, a very good read.

Just realised this is Zach the dumped groom from A Game of Vows!
Others have loved this book but i only found it average. I'm kind of tired of h's who have massive downers on themselves because of the way they look and we literally NEVER hear the end of the moaning this h does about her curves. If the H ain't bothered why worry?
I did like the friendship between these 2 on his side it certainly seemed very genuine, he cared for her and hooked her up with an epic job in his company and the friendship seemed very equal although on her side shes been in lurve from the start so she settles for friendship.
Poor Zach he is really messed up by his past and he has tried his best to sort his life out but obviously over reacted greatly by cutting his heart out metaphorically speaking he's not a bad person i think he just needed to mature and meet the right person to sort his head out which he finally did. He does treat the h pretty shabbily along the way though either because he is a typical oblivious male or trying to avoid loving her. I mean come on who wants someones elses engagement ring. Use your brain Zach! he does get their in the end and i liked his grovel
Our h seems a bit doormatty but she does say what she wants and she genuinely cares for the H and looks after him when he is upset.
I would have liked more of an epilogue with these 2 where we found out if she has her little bakery.

What happens?
Clara baked a wedding cake for her business partner (more like boss)'s wedding that never happened. She did this with the mind set of leaving the business eventually not being able to watch him start a family with his new wife.
Zack's wedding that never happens puts him in a bad position to secure a business deal. Unable to let that slip through the cracks he convinces Clara to pretend to be his fiancee. He also does this as a way to convince her to stay working with him so he can stay in her life.
However of course being locked in a one bedroom luxury villa for a fake honeymoon leads them to discuss the elephant in the room; their sexual attraction.
Final thoughts
This was nice. Zack was a bit over bearing and manipulative, whereas she was just a doormat a lot of the time. I feel he sort of took advantage of her and she let him even though she knew it?

Very good book , Clara fell in love with her boss Zack when she joined his company. She bakes cupcakes for her coffee shop boss. She kept her feelings to herself until she had to bake his wedding cake.
Being left at the altar, Zack asked his friend to be his faked new fiancé at his honeymoon destination , until his friend made a bargain for One night….
Then begin the discovery of where that friendship will lead …

From the delightful cover to the strong, intelligent hero and heroine, this book was a delight. No billionaire but rather a Peets-style coffee empire businessman. I wish the heroine, the Vice President of Confections and creator of delectable cupcakes, really existed, because coffeehouses could use better baked goods. Whenever I thought the book might get sidelined by a cliched situation, Yates allowed her characters to speak -- and act -- from the heart. Zack and Clara both stand their ground and allow the yearnings of their hearts to guide their decisions. Before Clara agrees to be Zack's temporary fiancee (and haven't we all been down that road before?), she has worked alongside Zack for seven years: they are firm friends as well as colleagues.

I was especially intrigued by some of the yummy sounding cupcakes -- maybe recipes might be forthcoming?
