Now that Karlie has received her full powers, things are going to be great... right?
Karlie's number one priority is to kill Serenity - after all she deserves it for trying to kill Alex. Though it isn't as easy as it sounds. Serenity teams up with demons to create an army to destroy Karlie.
On top of that, there are a ton of zombies, everywhere... And a new angel in town, who seems more like a demon... And of course, a shape shifter dragon! It's all weird, even for Karlie.
With friends turning against friends, it seems as though her life got a whole lot more complicated.
Oh where to even begin? Well lets start with that AWESOME cover? Karlie is looking so bad ass on there!! I love it. I would have picked it up just for that.
In this book of the Destiny Saga you have Major action, Suspense and Love! oh and ZOMBIES!!! How can you go wrong with that combo? The story falls right in with where we left the gang plus the one new witch Serenity. I loved how everything flowed and progressed it was fast paced and exciting!
Karlie is coming into her powers full force and man can she do some damage! Who can she trust is a factor and man it's hard to know. Shane sticks by her through and through though *sigh* When it looks like he is the only one left that she can count on, he's there.
New friends that come in are so flippin cool!!! I love Hugh and Jessica the most. They are on top of it. Funny and fierce they are written really well and fit in with the story well. This book had everything I wanted and TONS more for the follow up Heather delivered an amazing book and I cannot wait for MORE!!! I totally hit FanGirl Mode when I see soemthing new from Heather.
Also, the ending is OMG and She did it again.... She has the major endings and this one is no exception to the awesomeness!
Ok, I was excited to read When Destiny Strikes, but the only thing I was reluctant about was the fact that this book would have Zombie's in it. I'm not a huge Zombie fan, but really... they worked well into the story and weren't a main focus.
I always read Heather's books quickly, because they are non-stop entertainment. I feel like I need a nap after (in a good way). I mean, this girl is THE ONE, the only hope of keeping peace between humans and the paranormal mystery world. Loads of stress, right??? But, once again, Karlie and gang make it full of fun ( for me, not so much for them)! I was so caught up in the action, mystery, surprise, and love in the story. Karlie is sarcastic, humble, honest, fearless, and really funny! I swear I started laughing in the first few pages. Last time, I was a little reluctant to get attached to Shane. This time, I full out fell in love with him. I just wasn't sure what his true motivations were with Karlie before, but it's clear to me now how much he loves, protects, and stands by her. He is a true partner to her. So sweet! Oh and I loved reading his POV. It happens late in the book due to a big event, but it was a pleasant surprise hearing his voice.
I really don't want to reveal any spoilers to the story, so I will only say this: I was happy to see some of the supporting characters return, happy to meet some new characters/paranormals, and sad to see some go in the story. Hannah is a new character that Karlie doesn't really care for, but I actually sort of did. And Hugh...*sigh* I have a weird curiosity for Dragons for some reason. HOWEVER, that Serenity is still completely terrible. Urgh, that girl makes me mad. I'm sure there are many more twist and turns to these characters though, so I expect my thoughts to change again on all of them. Then there was the ending. Holy cliff hanger!
As I've said before, Heather's writing just gets better and better with each story she creates. I would easily say that this is my favorite so far. It felt like the development of the story was more crisp and neatly completed. 4.5 out of 5 http://www.autumnreview.com/2012/04/d...
Karlie was a straightforward, uncomplicated heroine, interested in trying to have as normal of a life as possible while still kicking baddie butt. Any issues I had with Karlie in the first book were gone and I could read about her kicking butt in peace!
The writing in the Destiny series took me a while to get used to. It's kind of stream-of-conciousness, all the things that Karlie thinks, as she thinks them. It's not a literary or lyrical as most books, but it's probably pretty close to how I thought and spoke when I was seventeen. It just took so getting used to.
Also, I felt the climax of When Destiny Strikes felt a little rushed. I think Heather could have fleshed it out just a little more. That said, the very end almost knocked me off my chair!!
Heather M. White provided a great second book in her Destiny Saga. Not only did I get to question some of the characters intentions, but there were werewolves, vampires and zombies!
When Destiny Strikes starts right where When Destiny Knocks left off. Karlie is mourning the loss of a dear friend in the graveyard while fuming about the person who took her friends life. She brought her back only to be repaid with death. Kinda crappy thing to do if you ask me.
Karlie has come to her full power and has to stay alive and win a war or the human race could come to an end. Throughout the book she questions her abilities and some of the choices she has made, and I would too if I were her. She has a lot riding on her shoulders and all she wants to do it get revenge.
I loved the ending. Not only was it unexpected, but it happened abruptly. Complete and total shocker. I liked being able to question character motives. There were times when I couldn't decide if one character was on Karlie's side or not. It was refreshing. There were three things I didn't like. The first was that I felt some of the scenes either dragged on or could have been improved with a little more substance. The second was that there wasn't as much action as I was expecting. Finally, I would have loved to see more of Alex. I am Team Alex even though I know Karlie will never be with him. Beyond those three minor points it was a great read.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It wasn't as good as the first, but it was a great addition to the saga and I'm looking forward to book 3. I highly recommend this series if you want a little bit of romance, a lot of action, and some paranormal beings.
FTC Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion.
When Destiny Strikes kicks off right where When Destiny Knocks ended. With the help of Shane, Jessica, and Alex, Karlie has brought Serenity back to life. And how does Serenity repay Karlie's kindness? By stabbing and seemingly killing Alex. Talk about ungrateful, right? Thinking that Alex is dead, Karlie is out for revenge, but first she needs to fight off the hordes of zombies coming her way. Yes, ZOMBIES! You can never go wrong adding zombies to the supernatural spook mix.
Karlie has received her full powers, and they are incredibly kick a**! For instance, Karlie was surrounded by zombies on all sides and she was able to take them all out at once by spinning really fast while swinging a shovel at their heads. That was one of my favorite Karlie fight moves. She has enhanced physical and mental abilities, and the help of new friends, so she has a fighting chance in this war.
The new angel in town, Hannah, rubs Karlie the wrong way and there's instant animosity between them--mostly because Hannah has a thing for Alex and isn't afraid to show it. But once they let go of the hostility they quickly start to become good friends. And there's the twin dragon shapeshifters, Hugh and Hubert. They are an invaluable addition to the team with their ability to breathe fire, which takes out pretty much any spook but demons.
But new powers and extra fighters doesn't make any of them indestructible. They will do anything to protect Karlie and keep her alive, and some of them won't make it out alive. The all-out war that was a result of Serenity's planning ended in a cliffhanger of EPIC proportions. Heather White knows how to keep us hanging and begging for more. I can't wait to see what happens next and how Karlie gets out of her latest situation.
When Destiny Strikes is a fun, quick, easy read, filled with multiple crazy zombie beheadings, with the use of the faithful shovel. I did laugh at the conversation Karlie was trying to have , and the zombie just wouldn't stay down....he really should have..... ha! Clunk!
There is an army coming to kill Karlie, the Chosen One and she has a group of ever faithful protectors on hand to support her. Our fave subcharacters, Shane and Alex are back with sidekicks Savannah, Jessica, Jarrod, and Mark.
I love Hugh and Hubert, the twins. They are dragon shapeshifters and if I had a team to pick in a battle I would be waving my arms in the air madly if they were on my team. They are the bomb!
Karlie has been written almost unstoppable.....well until Serenity , in the name of slowing Karlie down, shows her she can be stopped. She can do it all, cause, she is the chosen one, control weather with emotions, heal herself, heal others, teleport ( rather handy) , doesn't need sleep and can mind read, throw in being uber strong and she is a nightmare of a package to the baddie.
Serenity is an unusual character, the things she does for the good of the other characters, sometimes had me giggling.
Dear dad, well he is an absolute hoot. He knows what Karlie does , what she is, but , school is a major priority. Several times I was chuckling to myself at the way Karlie fitted in her schooling around beheadings of the creatures coming to kill her.
This book has 60ft dragons, shovels, 8ft Ogre, atleast 1,952 zombies to play swing the shovel at, vampires, shifters, poker, '69 Mustang, 1/2 demons ( hello Nicholas) trip to Vegas, jealousy, angels, demons........and that's just for starters.
I had fun reading this second installment. It was a cute read.

Title: When Destiny Strikes (Destiny #2) Author: Heather M. White Date of Release: April, 2012 Summary From Goodreads:

Review: GUYS!! I think I have said that I love girls with swords before. BUT I feel like the sheer awesomeness that is girls with swords needs to be mentioned again. Overall this book built on the last and gave me the action and details that I was craving from book one. Heather M. White’s Destiny Saga continues in this heart pounding sequel.
I think the thing I enjoy the most about Karlie is how I haven’t read a character exactly like her before. She isn’t a damsel in distress and can hold her own. I admire and look to female MC’s like Karlie, which is why I am hooked on this series.
The introduction of new creatures and characters kept me guessing what was going to happen next. It also cemented destiny as a unique new series. I don’t like books that the plot is like everything else I read, and Destiny is new and fresh.
The plot slips by quickly and soon enough, the final page is turned. I was left with my mouth open and then I had to go back and look at the details. I love doing that! If you liked the first in the series you will adore this one!!!
OMG Heather has done it again. Second books are always critiqued harshly but I will say this Heather has rocked my world and then some! Lord she had me so hooked that the ending had me like What the..... you know what I was thinking. This story picks up right where the first one left off. You get to see Karlie and Shane and the gang and a few new characters that I loved.
Karlie and Shane are trying to have a normal high school day where they do not have to fight evil monsters or demons but with Karlie being the chosen one everything wants a piece of her to destroy her and take over the world. Karlie is having none of that and she will fight to the end to make sure her friends and family and the world are safe.
Karlie will also go through a lot of trials and tribulations this time around. She will have to learn who to trust and just how much to trust. Someone close to her will come back into life causing her to reevaluate everything she was told about this person. She will also lose a few friends and she will also be betrayed by someone she loves.
Heather did an excellent job introducing new characters into the story and she even added some new supernatural creatures. Can you say H-E-L-L-O Hugh and Hubert! tehehehe you will have to read the book to see what I am talking about.
After having read the first book of the series, I went into this one with a great deal of trepidation. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this book was much more enjoyable than the first one. Gone were the continual errors in editing! Murr! Plus White decided to tell parts of the story from the perspectives of Shane and Alex. It’s always nice to see an author allow other characters to have a voice from time to time and share their views on the subject.
This book starts off right where the first one left off. There were plenty of surprises and unexpected twists that kept me reading, even though the story wasn’t much different from the first book. It’s still non-stop action from start to finish. And when I say that there are surprises, the end of the book is the biggest surprise of all, because when the epic fight is over and the dust has settled, it’s not the happiest of endings.
I’m curious to see what will happen in the third book of this series. The Destiny Saga really is a diamond in the rough that I think will continue to get better with each book. At the very least, it’s a fast, easy read after a long day chasing mice and avoiding the neighborhood dogs. Murr!
When Destiny Strikes is even better than When Destiny Knocks. The story picks up right where the first book left off. Karlie is beginning to come into the fullness of her powers, and if you thought she was a kick-butt heroine in book one, wait until you read book two. The action starts from page one and it doesn't even stop on the last page. I would say it is just on pause until the next in the series. There are so many interesting characters in the book. You have Shane, Karlie's super hot boyfriend, who happens to be half demon. Alex, the hot angel who protects her, but also has a thing for Karlie. You have Hugh the dragon. I really like him. Then there is Serenity, who Karlie just wants to kill, and of course all the rest of Karlie's crew from When Destiny Knocks. On top of that, the vampires, werewolves, demons, and tons of zombies are back in full force, so there is never a dull moment. The ending was like the scream in a scary movie.
This book is action packed, and if you love paranormal romance, zombies, and all kind of supernatural creatures, then you are in for a treat with When Destiny Strikes.
Oh, how I would love more Alex! I really enjoyed this book. The story builds up to this big war that is coming, and then you think it is over without too much damage, but then BAM! Heather White hits you with a surprise on the last page. She likes to do that, since it also occured in book one. So now I will go crazy waiting for the next book. It was good watching Karlie grow, and the romance wasn't overdone, even though Karlie and Shane's love kind of annoys me, but that is probably because of Alex. Great read for Young Adults and wiser.
