A self-help manual on creating reasonable, achievable improvement in your life. In our attempts to overachieve, many people find themselves frustrated because they cannot relish in their own successes. Though these professionals may reach their goals of job titles and financial stability, they often sacrifice their personal and family lives and discover deep dissatisfaction. In Change One Thing!, self-help author Sue Hadfield outlines the necessary steps to address the disillusionment that has become a common problem in our work-driven society. While whirlwind change can be overwhelming and unrealistic for a modern worker with a family and responsibilities, Hadfield asserts that a determined person can bring about an impactful change in his life by simply altering one aspect of it. ● Teaches readers to avoid emotions of hopelessness and panic associated with changing too many aspects at once ● Details a step-by-step plan to make a meaningful change ● Shares real-life examples of people who successfully altered their lives
Sue Hadfield is a teacher who believes it is possible to achieve what you want in life. Sue taught English in comprehensive schools for twenty years and also ran the school libraries. She has spent the last ten years teaching adults creative writing, study skills, assertiveness, and career and personal development at University of Sussex and for community groups.
Sue also delivers workshops for foster carers on how to encourage children’s resilience in schools. She teaches their children on a one to one basis and believes that these are some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in our society. Her company ‘Making Sense’ delivers workshops in schools, workplaces and community centres
A few chapters in and I knew this book is not gonna change my life. It’s a good book but I just couldn’t relate, or to be specific, I couldn’t see a way to implement most of the advise into my life. Towards the end though, it earned the third star back, it was nice to feel empowered by all the good quotes.
This book was all over the place and I DNF’d at about 50%. Essentially this book is a collection of motivational stories and platitudes such as “don’t delay your life” and “welcome change” which did not flow in any kind of sensical way. I rapidly gave up when I realised the book was not going to give me any sort of practical advice about how changing one thing can have a positive snow ball effect on your life. Just one woman’s opinions dressed up as advice.
It’s a positive message but it basically pulls quotes from other, more deeply researched self-help books. This could have made a few nice blog entries but not a substantial enough message for a whole book.
