Gwen's Ghosts #4

Left for Dead

Rate this book
A brand new paranormal women’s fiction ghost mystery series from JR Rain and HP Mallory, authors of the Haven Hollow, Misty Hollow, and Trailer Park Vampire Series!

After solving the mystery of who killed the woman who previously owned my cottage, I’m hoping my life in the small and quaint English village of Morley-on-Avon will quiet down.

But no such luck.

And I’m not just talking about ghosts.

I don’t know how it happened, but for someone who promised herself she’d avoid all romantic entanglements, I now have two men vying for my attention—the handsome and kindhearted blacksmith of Morley, Leo Tanner, and Morley’s own resident lothario playboy, Bastian Chambon.

And there’s no dating one and keeping the other as a friend. So, for now, the choice I’m making is no choice at all.

Now, for the ghost part.

There are whisperings of a young man going missing, and right about the same time, a ghost sporting Regency attire pops up in a cornfield.

Coincidence anyone? I think not.

So, guess who’s about to plop on her detective hat to go prowling for clues?

I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

3.75stars—LEFT FOR DEAD is the fourth novella in the contemporary, adult GWEN’S GHOSTS cozy mystery series co-authored by HP Mallory and JR Rain focusing on forty-two year old, American novelist Gwen Dance and her ghostly ‘assistant’ Petra Shearwater. LEFT FOR DEAD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

SOME BACKGROUND: American Gwendolyn ‘Gwen’ Dance is a forty two year old novelist who is journeying through life with a 19th century Victorian ghost named Petra Shearwater as her spirit companion/guide. At the age of eight, while on vacation in Morley-on-Avon, England, Gwen and her family would visit the local tourist areas including Chambon Hall where a young woman had mysteriously died but for Gwen the spirit of the young woman was still alive, and no one else by Gwen was able to see. Petra Shearwater in her ghostly form would befriend the eight-year old Gwendolyn Dance, and they would become lifelong friends solving murders and crimes in Morley-on-Avon.

Told from first person perspective (Gwen) LEFT FOR DEAD follows Gwen and Petra as they search for a young man who has gone missing. Hugo is employed by the local antiques dealer but Hugo never arrived to open the store. When his girlfriend Fiona Potter asks Gwen for her help, Gwen quickly discovers there is some bad blood between the Potter’s and the missing man in question. The appearance of a couple most spirits reveals a possible history of questionable Potter family behavior, as Gwen embarks on a journey to reveal the truth.

LEFT FOR DEAD is another quick read; a fast paced, enchanting and intriguing novella introducing Gwen and Petra’s next adventure into the world of sleuthing and solving yet another possible murder in Morley-on-Avon.

Gwen and Petra are back and trying to navigate life after sending Leo's wife to prison, she now is trying figure out her feelings between the two men in her life. Leo the sweet blacksmith who she could see herself with and Bastian the playboy who just wants to have fun. Oh and if that isn't enough there is a young man missing and a ghost wearing regency attire popping up in of all places a corn field . What is a girl to do but put the men on the back burner and put on her detective hat and find out what the heck is going on.
Gwen and Petra are back and funnier then ever . Petra is getting more and more sassy with her come backs to Gwen and her dilemmas. She is really becoming my favorite character . Petra is like the total opposite of Gwen, Gwen sometimes is flighty and kind of ditzy sometimes and doesn't like hurt people. We also get to meet Fiona the girlfriend of the boy who went missing. Fiona feels like she knows more then what she knows and you really can't trust her in some ways. Bastian and Leo are back and making things complicated for Gwen.
This is the fourth book in the series and I am loving the characters each book is a fast read but you get sucked in and cheer for Gwen and Petra. The authors have a new mystery each book and yes there is a love triangle but this one isn't full of angst, this one has lots of humor going along with the flirting. You have to read the series in order to get the whole story of Gwen and Petra . This would be a wonderful fun read at the lake this summer, they are short fast reads, so check them out.

The spooky adventures of an amateur sleuth.

This is the fourth novella in this PWF series. It’s a fun series and I am enjoying it but I do wish the books were longer. I enjoy the main character’s interactions with the ghost who has been her companion since childhood.

Our female MC is a mystery novelist turned amateur investigator along with her best friend who is a centuries-old ghost. Having recently moved from the hustle and bustle of city life in the USA to a quaint little village in the south west of England, Gwen could be forgiven for thinking that the pace of her life would slow down somewhat. However, life in her village doesn’t seem to fit the stereotype of sleepy and quiet. So far she’s solved a murder, nearly been murdered herself and has now taken it upon herself to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a young man from the village. All while trying (not very hard) to shake off the amorous attentions of two men from the village who despise each other – not an easy task when she likes them both and sharing doesn’t seem to be an option.

The reading order so far:

Book 1, Dance with the Dead
Book 2, Dead and Gone
Book 3, Dead of Night
Book 4, Left for Dead

Left for Dead is another great book in the Gwen’s Ghosts series. Full of twists and turns Gwen finds herself invested in locating a missing man. The police don’t believe he’s missing, but Gwen’s affinity for seeing ghosts may prove otherwise. The mystery is unique, and the authors are developing Gwen’s world well. I was engaged from the very beginning.

I enjoyed every single thing about this story. The setting is simple yet perfect for the story being told. The characters are three-dimensional, interesting, and written well. I'm excited to see where these extraordinary authors take us in the next book.

Part 1 of 2 of this storyline

This is not a complete book. It is half a book. The last half is in "book" 4. This is a great start to a new mystery that Gwen and her ghost best friend start to investigate. I already read the second half, and this is a truly great mystery. I enjoyed it very much. There are some romantic interests, two men vying for Gwen. Each man has his pros and cons. It makes for an interesting subplot, but I would not call this a romance.

I love this new series. Gwen is an author living in a small village with her ghost best friend Petra. When a young man goes missing, his girlfriend seeks her assistance in finding him. While donning her investigative hat, Gwen also juggles her two romantic interests. I’m not a big fan of love triangles but these have humor.

I really love these little mysteries that include ghosts! This time someone has gone missing in town and a new ghost has popped up out of no where and Gwen gets to come to the rescue again! As always Petra is around to antagonize Gwen over her love life and her different prospects. I wish they were longer!

This is a well written, interesting story. The characters are coalescing into complicated people, especially the main character with two men interested in her. The plot is easily followed, and the premise is finding out what happened to a young man in the antique store and why an ancient ghost has appeared. Another to be continued story.

Nope

Reads like it was written for 14 yr. olds. Boring beyond belief. I must prefer J.R.Rain stand alone stories. No more of this stuff.
