When Selkie Reid, an orphan with a gift for drawing, first meets Aidan O’Connor, a stranger with an intoxicating smile, she thinks her lonely heart has finally found a home.

Blissfully naïve, Selkie quickly falls in love, unaware of the secret bond that connects them.

Selkie is a Lightscaper, created with a boundless ability to reshape the broken world around her. She carries an immensely powerful gift, given only to a few. Knowledge breeds evil, so Lightscapers are always ignorant of the power they possess, for the sake of us all.

Aidan is her protector, chosen to guard Selkie from the Shadows that viciously pursue the light, and those who can control it. He is always there, watching, protecting, but always out of sight.

Their meeting was an accident, a mistake, and dangerous for them both.

Unaware of a larger battle brewing, Selkie and Aidan must fight against both their worlds to be together, but they’ll soon discover that sometimes destiny compels us to love, and sometimes it forbids us.

Reading Lightscape gives all the feels of a really great mystical love story. Page after page I was intrigued by the characters and the images Emily portrayed. You feel the angst of Selkie, the freedom of Tabitha, and the strength of Aidan. I truly couldn’t put the book down, sometimes not even realizing I moved onto the next chapter or two. I wanted to know more, learn and discover right along with Selkie. Emily did a wonderful job weaving the story along, introducing details at all the right times, nothing forced or hurried. The book leaves you ready for the next, hopeful and persistent. I can only imagine how wonderful the next two installments will be and am waiting anxiously to see what unfolds next.

In Emily Karlewicz's debut novel, "Lightscape," Selkie and Aidan arrive on the scene with both heart-wrecking and exhilarating sincerity. Selkie, an Irish orphan, links up with Aidan, an Irish clansman and "Protector." The connection between the two is powerfully gripping, and your curiosity won't allow you to put the book down (I finished it in 23 hours!). Without giving away all the good stuff, I will say that "Lightscape" blends elements of magical and spiritual realms together in a completely unique way.

Karlewicz has complete control of her story, creativity, and style, and she is definitely one to watch out for! I'm eagerly awaiting book two and can't wait to see what happens to Selkie and Aidan next. Also…. What's up with Gabe?!

Be prepared for forbidden romance, science fiction and mystery in Emily K. Karlewicz's new book Lightscape! A jaw clenching account of Selkie and Aidan, their forbidden romance and the mystery surrounding their undeniable connection. Is it love at first sight? Or are there dark forces at work? Lightscape is definitely worth the read and the cliffhanger ending has me anticipating the release of the next book in the series.

Lightscape caught me off-guard. I didn’t know I was looking for this kind of story when I started it. At first, you’re reading a young adult romance novel, getting to know the characters, the ins and outs of their everyday life. (Or NOT getting to know them as Aidan is quite mysterious at first. Which gives an added bit of secrecy, that turned out to be the exact right amount.) The main protagonist, Selkie Reid, draws you right in. Her life is tragic and she becomes a person that you really want good things to happen to. Aidan, quickly and mysteriously pops into her life and just as quickly becomes the object of her immediate affection. During the beginning chapters you get the feeling that there’s something strange going on centered around Selkie. Then it turns into quite an original fantasy story that is captivating at points, exhilarating at others and is able to bring it all down to a calm quietness that is soothing. Then everything builds up to the payoff! Aidan’s secret is enormous! You will not be disappointed. It is a very well written first novel. The author has effectively created a world of enchantment and intrigue as the light and the dark struggle with one another for the fate of Selkie Reid. What is so special about that girl?? I could definitely see this being turned into a franchise. We may be looking at the next big thing. I can’t wait for the next installment.

This was such an interesting and unique story. I was absolutely intrigued from the first chapter. I loved the mystical aspect and how Selkie began discovering herlsef. The insta love is not my favorite trope but that is definitely a preference thing. I found the name Selkie interesting and loved that the author included the meaning and origin. I am a sucker for those things! Definitely add to your TBR pile because it’s good!

It was definitely an interesting read. I loved the take on the fallen angel Lucifer. Lightscape is the light to his darkness.

They were created to bring life into earth when Lucifer fell, and he brought darkness.

It's a very light, easy read. Not much happens. There are a few action scenes, but it's a very tame ya fantasy romance.

Would recommend for beginners.

It was way to insta lovey for me. I was hoping for a more indebt story on her abilities. Her discovery of them and falling in love with her protector.
