Tyler is best known for her dark, sexy paranormal series Alpha Pack, and the Firefighters of Station Five and Sugarland Blue series as National Bestselling Author Jo Davis. PRIMAL LAW, the first book in her Alpha Pack series, is the winner of the National Readers' Choice Award in Paranormal. When she isn’t writing, J.D.’s idea of a good time certainly isn’t cleaning house (sniff), bungee jumping (not in this lifetime, or the next), or camping (her idea of “roughing it” is a slow bellboy). She enjoys reading, being pampered like the diva she is, and spending time with her awesome family. J.D. lives in Texas with her two grown kids, two cats, and a Boston terrier, all of them horribly spoiled. Visit her website at www.JDTyler.com.
I was really disappointed with Kalen's book, I think I became bored very quickly in the beginning with regard to Kalen's weakness to Malik. I'm hoping the next book will make up for the disappointment.
I wouldn't have pegged Black Moon as the book that ended my 'great reads' streak.
If you haven't read the other books in the Alpha Pack series, do NOT bother with this one. There's very little character introduction or world explanations. Since Mac's and Kalen's relationship actually began in a previous book (which one I don't remember), there's also barely any relationship development. The whole book basically revolves around Kalen and Malik, with Mac kinda wedged in there for the sex scenes or to slap bandages on someone.
Black Moon read like Tyler felt the need to wrap up every single loose end, just in case she didn't get a contract for book 4. I can't help but compare this to Eileen Wilks's Blood Lines, which did a very similar plot-line much better. I do want to read the next book, Hunter's Heart, because I'm hoping it will kind of reset the series.
The Alpha Pack has quickly become one of my favorite shifter series! The characters are all unique, interesting and sexy in their own way. The world and how it integrates shifters that have certain special abilities is fantastic. And the stories in each book always keep me on toes.
I should warn you that I have a soft spot for this man. Kalen Black is a perfect dark hero. I fell in love with him from the very beginning and I’ve been dying to read his story! First of all, he’s a panther. Score two thumbs up for him on the sex appeal department. On top of that, he’s a sorcerer. That combines two of my favorites! Oh yeah, and he’s got the tall, dark and goth look going for him. He’s dangerous, he’s a bad boy, the one you want to fix.
Obviously I recommend reading this series in order, including the novella, but we were left with Kalen wanting to protect Dr. Mackenzie from an evil fae that had gotten inside her head, and the only way to do that was to put himself on the receiving end of the evil fae’s mental influence.
This was hard to read for me. Loving Kalen as much as I do, it was hard to see him struggle with the Unseelie King’s influence. But then he also showed why he’s made of awesome. He is one of the strongest characters in this series. I love him, I love his strength, his love for his mate. His protective side and his animal side. *sigh* I just have a crush on him.
Dr. Mackenzie is no pushover either, she’s amazing. Perfect for Kalen. She’s a strong female who can go after what she wants but who can also stand on her own two feet and face the world. Whether that be alone or to protect the ones she loves.
Now as far as what happens in the story… my lips are sealed. Because so much happens!!!! And I wasn’t expecting a lot of it, but loved every single minute of it, every event and every twist.
This book was action packed and smexy packed. You will fall in love with Kalen if you weren’t already.
“You want me to go down there with you? I’ve seen this movie, and it didn’t end so good for the stupid hero.”
Well I still like the series but this book I rated a 3 because I had to put the book down to get past my WTF moments. The story line was alright but it seem like the second I would get into it the characters would do or say something that just made my brain short out, and I'd start to fuss then put the story down because I was pissed off.
I haven't figured out if the author is a human hater but I'm guessing not... The whole Fae story hasn't moved along enough for me other than what this story was about but it doesn't address the "greater" picture so if you have the WTF moments like I did your left frustrated. I thought at least I would have found out why one of the characters can't eat... but no.
I don't know what I'm going to do about this series.... the next book isn't due till September 2013 and it's about someone I don't give a hoot about so I'll see if I continue on with this next year. Which is kind of sad because I do like this story line... Lots of potential but leaves you wanting.
I had a hard time with this book too much angst. Kalen was constantly going back & forth. You would think because he found his mate Dr.Mackenzie Grant that he would try harder too straighten his life out. I found it hard too believe how many chances he was given at the compound when he kept putting their lives in jeopardy so many times. It was difficult to believe that they would allow him around their mates as shifters are very protective. There was just a little too much whining on Kalen's part all thru the book that made it very hard too finish. All in all not a really bad book but not my favorite out of the series.
I sat down in my comfy reading chair today and devoured this book in about four hours. I knew from the moment that Kalen walked onto the pages of Primal Law that he would have an amazing story to tell. J.D. did not disappoint. She gave Kalen the best book that I have read in 2012. Now I am left impatiently waiting for Hunter’s Heart (Sept 2013) the next installment in the amazing Alpha Pack series.
Kalen had a heartbreaking childhood. The atrocities that his parents bestowed upon him gave him a horrible start in life. The only break he has ever caught was Nick and the Alpha Pack allowing him into their fold. He has been on his own for so long he finds being amidst a team as a completely foreign feeling. He has never had someone to call his own, so this leaves him doubting everything in his new life. The doubts all leave him susceptible to the evil that is lurking just below the surface.
I think MacKenzie having had a normal life for the most part is what allows for the numerous bumbling starts in her relationship with Kalen. The attraction is there for both them and Kalen’s panther. They need more than attraction to make this work though. Kalen is up against his worst enemy, his self. MacKenzie struggles with how to handle all the conflicting emotions that he sends her way. I’m sure the unexpected pregnancy doesn’t affect her emotions in any way.
I stayed on the edge of my seat for the entirety of Black Moon. There were some very tense moments when I could have just shouted at the book. Nick and his PreCog visions especially ratcheted up the tension. Nick knows that Kalen will either save or destroy the Alpha Pack. These visions have been haunting him since he first got a read on Kalen. As Kalen begins his downward spiral they just become more incessant for Nick, but they never tell him the most important factor he needs to know from them. The methods that the big evil uses to get to Kalen are downright cutthroat.
***books in this series need to be read in order***
Me explico.
This is J.D. Tyler's 3rd book in her wonderful Alpha Pack series. It picks up almost exactly where the last book, Savage Awakening, left off. As a word of advice, if you haven't read any of her series yet but really want to read this book, which I'm 100% for, I would highly recommend at least reading Black Magic first, which is a novella in the series that is basically the ground work for this book. With that being said, I'll give you a bit of a synopsis, promise I won't spoil it *grin*.
So first off we have our hero, Kalen Black who is a newer member of the Alpha Pack. He is a sorcerer but also a shape shifter, who changes into a panther. One night (in Black Magic) he comes to the rescue of one of the Alpha's doctors' Mackenzie Grant. They end up spending the night together in a tiny hotel room and wouldn't you know it, Mac is now knocked up! Ever since that magic night, Kalen has been putting distance between them because an evil entity is worming his way into Kalen's mind and is literally trying to control him. Mac of course is upset by the distance but like any good woman, she marches on. Unfortunately she knows she will have to tell Kalen about the baby but not till they're at least on speaking terms.
Enter the evil entity, The Unseelie King. He wants Kalen to play for his team and will do whatever it takes to make that happen. He's also holding a ton of secrets that will shape Kalen, Mac and their unborn baby's lives forever. *I totally could be more cryptic but I'll spare you*
What I love about Kalen is that he is a very tortured soul with the ability for greatness or to become the ultimate evil. In this book, J.D. Tyler does a fabulous job of showing us Kalen's struggle with good versus evil, all the while digging deeper into Kalen as a character. We get to experience all the ugliness of his life and the self loathing he has for himself and on a deeper level his need to belong. As well as his need to have a home, family and to just be loved. So which side is going to win? Trust me, this story isn't like one you've read before where the character has to make a choice to be good or evil, nope Kalen totally turns evil and he turns totally good at the same time. There's no choice because the character does both. Have I piqued your interest yet? Told ya, it's different. Kalen will totally touch your heart to where you just want to wrap your arms around him and give him a good cuddle *wink* but I'm serious when I say there are times in this book that you just want to totally smack the crap out of him as well!
As for our heroine, Mac, she is a girl who might be a smexy doctor but damn is she totally stupid when it comes to men, especially Kalen. She is not going to be your typical kick butt female heroine, she's soft and squishy and pregnant but she does love Kalen and is a nice balance to all his good/evil struggles.
If you can't tell, I loved every part of this book, even when I wanted to smack the crap out of Kalen and Mac. It's action packed, full of nail-biting/page-turning drama and there's a fab HEA. Long live the Alpha Pack!!
Looking at some of the reviews I see I agree with many -- yes Kalen is angst filled and he has every right to be -- kicked out of his home at 14 and forced to live on the street and do whatever he needed to do to feed himself. That is a harsh life and needs to be taken into consideration. His mother abandoned him and the only person who gave any kind of love was his grandmother who gave him a necklace that she told him never to take off because it would protect him. Well yes that is pretty harsh to have no love too.
But at some point (in a previous novel) he was found and asked to join a community of Navy Seals and one would think that camaraderie would help diffuse (not take away but lessen the impact) of all the horror of his youth. He has a girl-friend / lover (Mac) that he seems very attached to and he can't seem to figure out if he wants to be away from her because he is having issues and wants to protect her or be with her because "she is his light that drives away the darkness". Yes he is a shape-shifter and a sorcerer and some evil dude is trying to seduce him to the dark side ... but hey doesn't that happen to everyone?
I read this book and thought that Kalen delving deep into his family to learn more about his life was realistic, I had a cousin who was adopted and searched for her birth mother when she was in her teens. People want to know about their life and family.
It just seems that Kalen has great potential and I do like him -- but was this a paranormal romance or teen angst trying to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up?
Black Moon, Alpha Pack #3, by J.D. Tyler Grade: D+
“Save me, Mackenzie. Drive out the darkness. Be my light.”
Kalen Black is a sorcerer and a shifter who can turn into a panther. he has had a very tough life but feels like he might have finally found acceptance with the Alpha Pack and in the arms of the sexy doctor Mackenzie Grant. Kalen is being haunted by a very powerful Unseelie Malik who wants to use Kalen and his power. Because of Malik kalen tries to drive Mac away but the bond between them is too great and his panther has already decided she will be their mate.
Mackenzie Grant has spent her life trying to save people and she has always ended up hurt. With Kalen things are no different but Mac is determined to fight for him and the life they can have together. With kalen losing more of himself to Malik’s influence every day the fight to save him is a long one. When mac discovers she is pregnant the fight becomes ever more important and she will do anything to save her new family.
I loved Savage Awakenings, the second book in this series, and I have been eagerly waiting to get my hands on Kalen and Mac’s book for months. Now that I’ve read Black Moon I am very disappointed and not sure I want to carry on with the series. I found the book lacking something and the back and forth between Mac and kalen drove me crazy. Add in Mac not telling kalen some pretty important information and I almost stopped reading.
Kalen breaks things off with mac in Savage Awakenings and he believes he has very good reasons and now he changes his mind in Black Moon even though the threat of Malik is even worse. This makes no sense to me and Mac just jumps right back into his arms without making him work for it. I know she knows at this time she’s carrying his baby but I think she would have done it regardless if she was pregnant or not. Why she doesn’t tell Kalen about the baby was just annoying and predictable to set up him finding out and them having a big fight towards the end of the book.
I felt that a lot of the book was predictable and that Kalen spent a lot of time pouting when he should have been fighting for the woman he loved. I loved Kalen in the previous books but he is now my least favorite and I hate saying that. I hope the next book brings the awesomness of the series back but I’m going to have to spend some time between now and September trying to convince myself to give it a try.and not just be done with the series.
Oh … my … Kalen. I love him. He had me from the moment the boys tackled him in the cemetery. He’s in my blood. So strong, and yet so damned vulnerable, I wanted to slay his dragons, heal his wounds.
I loved the passion and emotion between him and Mackenzie. The sex was off the charts, but their relationship wasn’t smooth or easy. She judged his character poorly. And I thought she should have been more supportive knowing all he was going through – all he’d been through. I liked her in the novella. I thought their connection was strong and she would help him through the dark times to come. But in this book, she was the cause of some of his tension and his pain, and that created my ambivalence towards her.
Still, it was obvious Kalen loved her deeply. She was his light in the darkness, his calm before the storm. He needed her as he fought with everything he was to hang on to his soul. And for him, I wanted them to be okay.
I’m not a patient person, but patience was exactly what I needed to finish this book. It was an emotional rollercoaster, my stomach in knots the entire time. But I loved it because yeah, in the end my baby was safe, he was happy, he was whole, and Mac helped get him there. I guess I had to see this one through before I could appreciate her for what Kalen already knew she was … everything. Damn.
Black Moon was a fabulous, intense, suspenseful read and I cannot wait for more! I loved spending time with the team again. Aric’s snarky ass, Nick, Hammer, Micah, Ryon. Zan – I don’t know what’s in store for him, but I hope he recovers completely. AJ – I really like him and hope he gets a story. Well done, Ms. Tyler. I’ll be doin my happy dance once I get my hands on the next in this outstanding series.
This book wasn't my favorite of this series and I really had high hopes for it especially after the novella where Kalen and Mac hooked up. I loved that novella. But the book went much more into the internal issues that Kalen is having with the dark hold that Malek has developed over him.
I had a hard time getting Kalen set in my mind as an Alpha because he spends so much of this book struggling against that evil. It almost made him feel weak. That combined with the fact that Nick is constantly referring to him as a kid and I just couldn't fall in love with him like I normally do the heroes. This also affected my enjoyment of the romance between him and Mac. BUT even though the romance wasn't my favorite, I did still enjoy reading this book. It added a whole new slew of layers to this team and Kalen and Sariel to find out all the details and twists that developed in this story.
I do continue to love the set up of this series with the Alpha Pack. I look forward to Ryon's story coming in December. It's a great cross between military and paranormal and with creatures like Kalen, who's not only a shifter, but also a sorcerer. It provides for some new twists on the paranormal and I like the series.
I hated this book. It was extremely emo. He had a terrible childhood.. That sucks man. But now you have awesome job and friends and a hot girl who is into you despite your whine-y ness... Thats totally a word. And good lord Mack was also super freaking annoying. He blew her off and then is a dick to her and then one day he is nice and asks her to lunch... I would have refused but not only does she go on the date, she takes him to her special spot( gag) and has sex with him. Seems like a fantastic life choice. They also overused pet names. Which again made me want to gag.
I don't know guys. I wanted to like it but I just didn't.. at all.

La meute Alpha, tomes 1 à 4 – J.D. Tyler
Une série entraînante, addictive. Ils sont « Bruts. Superbes.
Dr. MacKenzie Grant & Kalen Black are a couple that just can't seem to get it together. Since their night on the town and near death experience things have been strained between them. After giving his only protection against Malik to Mac, Kalen is bombarded with memories, hallucinations and dark thoughts constantly. Mac's memories are clear and firm as she only thinks of her night on the town with Kalen and that soon everyone else will know about it. In fact, she isn't quite sure Nick hasn't already foreseen it.
I really like Kalen & Mac as characters but the light may have been too harsh for Kalen during their shared star turn, with only glimpses of the Kalen & Mac from Black Magic present here. Neither Kalen, Mac, nor their relationship felt developed here and that made the read feel uneven. To my taste, Kalen alternated between reading as an angsty teen and a whiner. Neither are a good look for an alpha male. Mac didn't fare much better, her secret keeping felt contrived and middle-school-ish. as if that was the only way to make her part of the story. Kalen also seemed to be playing keep away with Mac and pouting because she did and Mac was the same, she stayed away and pouted because she did. Kalen may be on his way to becoming the greatest sorcerer, shifter, necromancer ever known but right now it seems he is just having a hard time with adulthood.
I wanted to like this read so much more than I did, but I wasn't completely disappointed. Nick was quite commander-y in his new fitted leader suit and didn't seem as if he was a completely separate piece of the story in this outing. Malik looked great in his villain attire as he tried to seduce Kalen to "the dark side" with soft stokes, easy words, truth bombs and a great deal of illusion. The shocks and revelations from the truth bombs will definitely be felt through some of the remaining installments as they directly affect the overall arc. Malik's input to the team, an update on Blue, glimpses of the "real" Kalen and Mac relationship, and the battle were all high-points of the read (and helped up the rating). The Alpha pack is an organization made of up former Navy seals turned werewolves. Their purpose is to battle some of the scariest and deadliest creatures not of their world. Each of the Alpha Pack books focus on a team mate, their struggles as a werewolf solider as well as the continued fight against an Evil Fae Sovereign.
Black moon focuses on Alpha Pack, new member Kalen. Kalen, a were-cougar and powerful sorcerer, has lived a very sad and troubled life. He is infected with a dark entity that feeds on his inner turmoil festering and growing. Kalen walks a fine line between good and evil, sampling both sides daily. Kalen has always felt he will never be happy; never find a mate, until a one night encounter with Alpha Pack Doctor Mackenzie. Mackenzie strengthens the light in him and keeps the darkness away, but he knows he’s not good enough for her; he must resist the urge to mate with her. But he also knows if he wants to stay good he needs her…is what he needs more important than what’s good for Mackenzie, and how can he choose…
The Alpha Pack story line is so original, it’s what made me pick up book one in this series. I fell in love with the idea of once soldiers turned werewolves and all the hot action it would bring. I did, however, find reading Blood Moon to be a challenge. Kalen has been through so much, the things we learn of his past are so sad and actually hard to read about at times. Every time it looked like he was making progress and taking 3 steps forward in being better, he would slip 2 steps back. I found myself to be frustrated and sad wanting to skip pages just to see something good happen for him. The book was well written and the overall story line is a fantastic idea, therefore I gave it 3 out of 4 stars. I am still looking forward to book #4 out next year, and hoping it mirrors book 1 and 2. ~Can
Basic idea: "Ever since he saved Dr. Mackenzie Grant’s life, panther shifter and sorcerer Kalen Black has had trouble keeping the beautiful doctor out of his thoughts, and his heart. The brush with death awakened an intense passion between them—one that for the first time had the notorious loner letting down his guard."
From the moment we meet Kalen in book 2, I've wanted to slap him. Yes, all the trained shapeshifting ex-Navy SEALS describe Kalen as a "bad ass sorcerer" but he's really just a whiny brat. Yes, Ms. Tyler has told us, repeatedly (did I say repeatedly? Yes? I better say it again, repeatedly), that Kalen had a bad life and that he lived on the street and was forced to do horrible things in order to survive. I get it. That doesn't mean he can't use his brain when things start to go wrong. Don't hide it, lie about it, and get pissy when things don't go all peaches and cream for you. Kalen was bad, but Mac is even worse. The wiffle-waffle back and forth, should I or shouldn't I, crap that constantly runs through her head was exhausting to read. It was very apparent from the beginning that no one in this book has the ability (or inclination) to look at it from the other person's perspective. They'd rather throw a tantrum like a child who didn't get a sweet and storm away from the situation...only to get in a even worse situation around the corner.
I almost gave up on this book except for one small character, or rather one large blue winged fairy boy who made me laugh. I'd like more of Blue please.
I really wanted to like this series but the storyline so choppy and all over the place. There seems to be no path or goal. Like another review said "it felt like story was rushed to end jic contract not renewed". I skimmed a lot during this book, didn't feel a connection to it. Also, a lot of repetitive info could be avoided if a glossary of characters and events were included in each book. Had great potential but went downhill fast.
If you want to read Psy-Ops type of books, I suggest Mandy M. Roth's Immortal Ops and Psy-Ops series.
I started reading Cole's Redemption, skipped Hunter's Heart, and I was caught up by end of first chapter.
Spoilers from books 1-3:
1. Jax joined the Marines. When did switch to being a Navy SEAL? 2. Jac's wolf described as silver (s/b Ryon) 3. Why are hospital beds too small for them? 4. Why didn't Jax discuss what happens before mating? Why didn't Nick since he's their leader? 5. Sariel can sense other faes but couldn't sense unseelie in Block T? 6. Kalen can put up a ward with 20 mile radius but couldn't stop helicopter from taking off from roof? 7. Jax got Kira's wrist but Aric only got a finger? (Was that supposed to be a pun?) 8. Why doesn't Jax use his time-bending more often? 9. Why was Kalen left alone so much if everyone knew Malik was tormenting him? 10. I feel Malik's war should've happened later in series and other characters should've been developed first.

That was a hard story to read but awesome nonetheless! “Black Moon” is darker than the previous books in the series and with a more complicated character. Finally, this is the complete story of Kalen and Mac and it’s exactly what I expected: dark and emotional.
Kalen had the most difficult life. He’s abused by his father and then abused by strangers in order to survive. He is a powerful Sorcerer, Necromancer and panther shifter but he was very unhappy in his life so far. Unwanted and without friends, he became a part of the Alpha Pack team. He has many insecurities and soon, his real dad and the evil incarnate, is trying to take him on his side in order to kill the team he now belongs. The only light in his life is Mac but he’s finding hard to resist to his father. Kalen had a very difficult journey in this book and I was so sad reading about his insecurities and fears.
I liked Mac very much! She loved Kalen since the first time she saw him and she wants to save him. She isn’t judgmental and she’s doing her best to provide him everything he didn’t have in his life: love, acceptance, friendship and a family. She fought for him until the end and she did a great job!
I loved this story! It was fast-paced and a very nice paranormal romance read! I totally recommend it to all the fans of this genre!
Oh my Kalen......I have been in love with Kalen since he stepped on the pages in Primal Law (book 1). And I feel more in love this him in his novella Black Magic. So I was so super excited when I got my ARC of Black Moon. We finally get to learn more about Kalen. What makes him tick, what his demons are and how far he is willing to go to protect the ones he loves.
Kalen goes through so much in Black Moon my poor heart almost didn’t survive the journey. There was so much that happens I am afraid if I start to tell you I will give away too much. So let me just say.....
Kalen is AWESOME!!!! He is so much stronger than he ever realized. Even if it will cost him everything in the end. Kalen does the only thing he can to save the Alpha pack. Some sacrifices are worth it.
If you have enjoyed the first two books and Kalen’s novella you will love Black Moon. But be warned you may need a tissue, because Kalen my just break your heart. .
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. The following review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
Both the main characters are super stupid and annoying. Honestly. They make the same stupid mistakes over and over. I got so angry with them.
A couple of examples: the heroine is a former psychologist but never acts like one - very reactionary and not very mature. Then the hero keeps going back to the bad guy (and drinking his damn blood) over and over despite knowing the risks. Also, the way he responds sexually to the bad guy trying to seduce him over to the dark side at the end was icky (it almost felt like cheating and he was actually thinking about cheating and loving the idea. I know he was out of his mind at the time. Still not cool).
Could not finish this one. Got about half way through and never really connected with the charactors. Both the H/H irritated me. The story was choppy and not very believable for me. Loved the First two books in the series so I may pick this up again. Maybe it will redeem itself later and I want to continue to read future books in this series hoping they will be as good as the first two.
The darkest of the books so far, for sure. I didn't like nor get the sexual component that Malik brought to this story and after learning just where he fit into Kalen's life, that shit squeaked me the eff out. But aight. I'm on to the next.
I'm literally devouring this series, love it a lot. This one wraps up this mini arc and I'm just happy to say that instead of dragging out a main storyline for book after book, Tyler instead gives us mini storyarcs that makes it very satisfying to read.
Love the H in here. This one's an endearing H full of contradictions. He's powerful yet v vulnerable, alone for most of his life yet craving for love and companionship. He also is pretty insecure and has a low self esteem, yet at the same time he has a v strong moral core and strength to fight against the most evil entity. His devotion to the h is v sweet and touching and it's never in doubt that while he hasn't had a life that's filled with any positive emotional connection much, he is one that feels, cares and loves deeply.
Our h is at first a bit hard to like to be v honest. Given the situation, I find myself pretty pissed at her not being more compassionate or understanding of the H's plight, and not doing more to help him in the beginning. But to be v honest, her reaction is really probably very normal and that will be exactly how a young modern woman with her own thoughts and emotions dealt with this situation in real life, being pissed and ranting on it when the situation calls for it, and needing time to digest and adjust to the situation before working out the most proper way to act accordingly, despite her feelings. Towards the end though, I'm happy to see her stick by her man and gives him all the love and support he needs to fight against the evil beings.
I haven't read their backstory yet as I was v eager to know how the gang can ever finish off those horrible baddies, but I'll be going back to read it definitely. At the beginning of the book, to be honest, I was pretty disappointed. There are just too much coverage on the baddie's interaction with our H, and just not enough to tell us more about these two. Not helping is the fact that it's v teeth grinding to see H vacillating between good and evil and struggling so much on his own.
I realise that while some of the scenes in this series are pretty uncomfortable for me to read, as I'm more the fluff and light stuffs kind of reader and cannot bear to read characters suffering through too much, and probably would have dnf usually in other cases, Tyler's way of writing and handling scenes just barely grazed my tolerance threshold and by writing how well characters bounced back from hell and vindicated the baddies, work well for me.
It also is a bit annoying to see him act out of characters (or what I thought his character should have been) in some scenes not knowing what is happening in his head. As the story progresses though, I'm glad these scenes are more compact and doesn't drag the story down as much.
I really like the sexy times between this couple too. While it is still v hot, a lot of the scenes are more of an emotional mind meet and we do see the strong connection these two have for each other.
The entire book's action, unlike previous ones, is more crowded towards the back, which also might be why I wasn't enjoying it as much at the beginning with the slow progress. But once the ball starts rolling, boy, am I all psyched to see how this will pan out. Actually stayed up till late being so gripped by the happenings there.
Now I'm just jumping directly to the next mini story, excited to see what will be happening for the remaining singles in the pack.

This is the story of Mackenzie and Kalen. The story shows us a potentially powerful sorcerer and panther shifter. He ends up in bed with Mackenzie who is a psychologist and physicians assistant. They thought they would be safe from pregnancy because they weren’t mates. Turns out they were mates and Mac is now pregnant. Kalen is troubled by having had a father and mother who didn’t love him. His dad kicked him out of the house when he was 14 years old forcing him to adapt and get by the only ways he could. Sometimes being forced to sell his body for money for food. The story is complex in the relationship with his “real” father who is the king of the Unseelie and evil to the core. I’ll stop before I tell too much. There are sexual scenes that may offend some readers. I recommend you read the books in order to enjoy the complete storyline.
