Breath of Darkness #2
Sweet, Decadent Fire
She was on fire for him …
Every inch of her flesh screamed for more
He looked at her as if she were his world. When he pressed his lips against the corner of her mouth, she felt and heard a low growl rumble deep in his chest. The sound of it wrapped around her body and gently pulsated over her flesh in ways that made her feel delicious, intoxicating sensations she’d never even imagined experiencing.
Rising onto the very tips of her toes, she slipped her arms around his neck and then, without any other thought than needing to get closer to him, she arched her body into his. He gently teased her lips with his, and then he kissed his way to her neck. She let the pleasure take her, let it wipe out all thought other than his hands and hot lips moving over her flesh.
She was fully clothed, but his hands wandering, massaging, caressing every inch of her body, felt as if they were touching her bare flesh, wreaking such glorious havoc that her breaths were coming in short, ragged gasps.
She felt something dark, powerful, and dominating shift inside him. It didn’t frighten her at all. In fact, it excited her. She moved her body against his as his teeth scraped her neck and his tongue soothed the sting. His hand gripped her thigh and lifted her leg to wrap it around his thigh. The feeling of her hot, throbbing core pressing against his was so unexpectedly erotic it nearly caused her to climax. Moist, beckoning heat gathered, pooled between her legs. She felt so empty, so needy.
She ached to feel the weight of his body on top of hers. She ached for him to fill her.
By the time he took possession of her mouth and his tongue parted her lips, she had completely forgotten that they were standing on a busy sidewalk. He wasn’t simply kissing her. His lips, his tongue, his hands were making love to her, worshipping her. The hot, passionate desire he displayed as he feasted her on mouth was the single most extraordinarily sensual experience she’d ever imagined. And she’d imagined many.
On a breeze of hot, sensual bliss, she was soaring so incredibly high. She was on fire for him. Her entire body was so entirely aroused. Every inch of her flesh screamed for more. She wanted more. She needed so much more from him.
Then, he went completely still. His arms briefly tightened around her, nearly crushing her to him. She felt deep, terrible anguish. She felt regret. Every muscle in her body tensed. She felt anger and frustration. But they weren’t hers. Somehow she knew the emotions belonged to him. She felt them for only a few seconds before he released her and took a step back.
“I’m sorry.” She saw a mixture of pain and love in his eyes when he reached out for her as to take her in arms again, but then he stopped. “I shouldn’t have kissed you.” His arms folded behind his back, he looked down at her hand for a few seconds. And then, his expression void of any emotion, he met her gaze. He held out his hand for her. When she didn’t take it, he took her hand and led her into the restaurant.
She could feel her heart racing. A kiss? It was only a kiss to him? In a state of shock, she followed his lead. To her it had been so much more than a kiss. If they’d continued, she would have … oh, God. It wasn’t just a kiss to her. It was so much more. It was a magical moment of … of sweet, decadent fires of desire merging.

About the author
Candice Stauffer
10 books111 followersI live in Zeeland, Michigan, where half the year is winter and the other, much shorter half, is summer. It’s a wonderful place to live as long as you own a four-wheel drive vehicle and happen to get a kick out of measuring the snowfall in feet rather than inches.
I write paranormal romance because I love to explore and manipulate the limitless possibilities of the genre. To be completely honest, I’m also very fond of taking a totally hot, powerful, immortal hero and using a strong, confident, beautiful heroine to turn his world upside down and make him fight like hell for a victory that seems impossible to achieve. Some might call it torture. I call it entertainment and character building.
Regardless, it’s great fun!
Though she’s afraid, a heroine must always be willing to fight like hell—and, yes, even if the fighting is against the hero. I’m not sure why, but I tend to really enjoy it when the heroine fights against the hero. Putting a hero through the wringer builds personality, right?
I’m often accused of being a little bit naughtier than nice and slightly rough around the edges. Okay, I lied—very rough around the edges. Life has been a challenge. But I’m grateful for every challenge I’ve faced. Through them, I’ve learned to focus on the goal rather than the walls surrounding it. Basically, I figure that as long as I enjoy life and do all I can to encourage and help the people around me enjoy life, it’s all good.

Sweet, Decadent Fire by Candice Stauffer
It all came down to this….Jake Mann was going to tell her good-bye tonight. Take her dinner and be done. Of course he would continue to watch over her but she would never know it. She wasn't his to have. Never was….never will be. So what does he do? Kisses her. What a fool. How will he let her go now that he has the memory of her lips on his? And being a vampire…. he will live with those memories a long long time.
Lee Anne Parker has really fallen for this hunk that rescued her from her car accident. Only he seems to prefer friendship. Until that kiss tonight. And wow what a kiss it was! Now she wants even more, much more. Only he don't seem to be moved by it at all. What's a girl to do? Drink too much wine and go find someone who wants her….that’s what. Only her night don’t quite end like she wanted.
This book was on the shorter side but packed full of humor, adventure, romance and much more. Joseph and Mia from Eternal Breath of Darkness join them for some fun and danger along with the rogue demon, Demetri. The next book is Exquisite Breath of Darkness where Candice will take the readers into the world of lycans.

This is the first that I have read from Candice Stauffer, but it won't be the last! I truly enjoyed this book. Yes, it is short, but it makes me want to read more! I think this is a great introduction to the author for me. The writing was fluid and smooth.
It was a sandstorm of a romance that left me wanting to read what may be in store for them in later books. Let me tell you, Jake, one smooth hottie! I just wished he had realized more about Lee Anne. They are truly meant for eachother. Theirs steamy sences were just that, super steamy!
An awesome read that I would definitely recommend to a friend that was over 18! :)

Parts of it caught my attention and for being a short story it was pretty decent. I did discover grammatical/spelling errors. I know my english skills aren't the greatest but if you're going to write a story make sure you have it written correctly :/

My thoughts:
This was the first book I've read by Candice Stauffer and I have to say, Yay to the find. :) Her writing style is fun to read it's light and I like it if you can tell. :)
The Review:
This story was cute and different. I've read lot's of Paranormal Romance and always enjoy a break from repeated series. Jake Mann and Lee Ann Parker were fun getting to know and easy to like. Normally in romances I like one character more than the other because they're completely different. If you want to read a smoking hot book then this is one for you. >:-)
Would I read more? Yesss!

Confusing at first, this tale will take you through some quick changes. It seemed as if the story started before the book began and you just have to keep reading ro catch up with the plot or get left behind. On the plus side the story is awesime, once you do catch up. I loved the fearlessness of the heroine, and the brutal way she acted. I am tired of those books that show the heroine as some weak limp thing that needs to be taken care of, and rescued, constantly. Or always at the mercy of the heroes lusts. Its about time these's men have to beat a woman off 'to preserve his honor'. Let's hear it for Deflowered Heroes!
Will definately be on the lookout for more from this author.

My only gripe is that all of the male character's names started with a J. Jake, Jeremy, Joshua... It made it confusing and took a heck of a lot more effort than should be required to keep track of who's talking or being talked about.

loved it of course. sexy vampire, great love story

If I could give half stars this would have been a 2.5 rating. It just wasn't there for me.

Too short
I enjoyed the book, but I would like to read the conclusion of what happened to Jeremy. Remember he killed Jake brother.

This was a DNF for me at about 25%. I liked the idea of the forbidden romance mixed with the paranormal and I liked what I saw of the hero, but...
First the story felt like it jumped right into the middle of something so I felt off kilter from that and then right away before I got to know her, the heroine got drunk and got mean. She blew stuff out of proportion. Calming, reasonable words made her angry; silence made her angry. Everything made her angry. Then she dumped her wine and a water pitcher over the hero and stomped off to the bathroom. In the bathroom, she admitted to being done with Jake to a gal who told her that they looked good together, but was interested if Angry Drunk was not. This set her off again, but only so far as to set the other girl to fail with Jake by lying to her all because she is jealous and in denial. And what did the hero do? Oh, he kissed her and felt bad about coming onto her and she's mad that he hasn't slept with her which in her wine-fogged mind makes it clear that he doesn't like her.
I know others really like this story and I'm sure its hot and all, but I didn't feel like sticking around waiting for Ms. Wasted to get her junk back together.
Thanks, but no thanks!

Was this really the 2nd book or was it just a novella? I'm confused 'cause this novel has less than 90 pages and all the other novels of this series are well over 250...I mean, it wasn't less enjoyable for me in any way 'cause I haven't read any of the others so I can't really say I missed something or I actually feel the difference between them but it's definitely weird. Is there going to be a full length novel later then? But that doesn't sound right either. I don't know. I did find it short of course, specially when Jake informed us he had taken her to the 1600's and then it ended before we could actually wrap our minds around that tidbit, but I did enjoy it very much. I really liked Lee Anne and Jake seemed really nice too. I do find myself curious about Mia and Joseph.

Its awesome to know that not all vampires in this series our evil. And certainly Jake is not evil at all but he is hot as hell as only a vampire can be. He given the task to watch out and protect Leigh Ann Parker for another vampire only to find out in the end that she is his mate. I love the whole scene where she tries to get another woman to seduce him while she makes a run for it. My only regret was that it was too short of a story but diffinitly a hot read. Two thumbs up. Highly reccomend this book to others.

Number two in this series. The focus is on our demon friends vampire friends and how they live, love and find their mates. Jake the vampire has found his true mate in Lee Ann. She gives him trouble and he loves it. Another great read! We meet more characters and begin to watch their stories unfold. Love!

After reading the first book in this series I expected this book to pick up where it left off. However, it starts off by introducing new characters and left me feeling like I had missed a book. This novella is more like book 1.5 in the series rather than a book 2. I still enjoyed the story, but it felt like something was missing. At least it was a freebie.

Couldn't put it down! This is one steamy, dreamy book. Have to see what happens next! I just love the whole vampire werewolf dragon thing. The men are Hot, Hot, Hot! A great read for adults who enjoys Paranormal romance with a twist!!!!

Short, sweet, to the point
Definitely helps to have read the first in the series. This book doesn't leave you hanging. There is a good lead into another book or two, so if you like Ms. Staffers writing go ahead and get her other books, I will.
