A Clouds and Rain Story

Tim Conroy knows all about patience. He’s waited three years for Rory McCown to get out of jail after doing time for stealing horses from the Blue River Ranch. Now that Rory is eligible for parole, Tim makes it his goal to persuade his boss, Hunter Krause, to give Rory a second chance.

He almost regrets it when Hunter agrees. Rory is a morose loner one moment, then arrogant and overconfident the next. The attraction between them is still there, but as soon as they start to get close, an old enemy throws a wrench in the works… and their fledgling relationship may not be strong enough to weather the coming storm.

Hmmm, on one hand, it is nice set-up; Rory, a drifter that has been jailed and Tim, the wrangler who has been having a crush on him. The story sets three years after Rory went to jail and now that he's on parole, Tim is asking his brother to get Rory a job. I like story with people down his luck, you know? While Tim is a choke-full of sunshine and positive attitude, he's like a faithful dog that will not leave his master :). Of course he's the one that being able to help Rory to believe in himself again.

On the other hand, I'm not feeling it as much. I feel like there's so much more to Rory that hasn't been fully explored. Funny thing, at first, I thought Rory was a teenager, Then I find out that he was a war vet, and he's 40 years old. Totally not like what I imagined at first. So yeah, Rory's mother left him when he was 6 years old, he was in homeless shelter, he battles with alcohol ... but all of them, seem to only scratch the surface. I do admit there are parts that moves me -- like during the AA meeting when Rory finally takes Tim.

It's still a good story. I did finish it in one sitting. I just don't feel moved that much.

If you haven’t read a story by Zahra Owens then you missing out on a really good storyteller in the M/M romance genre because she has written another compelling story with a budding relationship between two men living day to day on a ranch in Idaho. Floods and Drought is the 3rd book in the Wranglers series and continues the story of life on the Blue River ranch and is picks up 3 years after the end of book 2. Tim works on the ranch and is the wrangler in charge of the breeding side of the ranch business. Rory is getting out on parole and Tim has arranged it for him a job on the ranch, the same ranch where he got into trouble that sent him to prison 3 years earlier. Tim hasn’t forgotten the attraction he felt for Rory all those years ago when they had that on kiss, and hopes maybe they can get that back again. Rory has been in and out of trouble and is very wary of Tim’s good intentions but will do what he can to stay out of trouble for the next year. What he didn’t expect was to feel something again for Tim. Life on the ranch isn’t that easy for the two ranch hands dealing with family interference and trouble from the past, causing them to wonder if they really do have what it takes or is there too much to overcome.

You can definitely see a growing relationship between Rory and Tim. They have smoking hot sex with each other and give what each other needs. Rory has a lot of trust and commitment issues to work through and you catch a glimpse of his past and you can understand why. I just love it when he finally comes to realize what Tim means to him and he can be honest with himself about his feelings. However, he is carrying a deep secret which he hopes he can overcome for the chance of a future with Tim. Tim is a half full glass kind of guy and sees the good in people and situations. He has a time of it dealing with people not accepting Rory and tries to reassure him of his love and devotion to his man and the relationship. I love how it is developed throughout the story making it so much sweeter at the end for Rory and Tim.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this story because it was so intricately told with other characters and storylines from the other two books, Rain and Clouds and Earth and Sky. I love seeing Gable and Flynn again, and Miranda makes another appearance to wreak havoc for Hunter and Grant, which effects Tim and Rory. This story deals with real life and real issues and how one deals with them on a day to day basis, and then the work involved with a horse ranch. This story is a definite recommend to anyone who loves reading about angst and longing, suspense and danger, and of course love and romance.

Apparently there isn't a cowboy story of Zahra's I don't like.

Tim and Rory are a complicated, yet irresistible couple. Like the other books in this series, the two men belong together, but nothing is ever easy. Whether it's tackling with addiction or battling old enemies, the lovers must struggle to be together, and even their personal relationship is far from effortless. But anything can be handled with love, family and friends.

Zahra's writing is realistic, fluid and professional, and every scene is a pleasure to read. I highly recommend this third book in the series, just like the ones before!

What a beautifully written story about two totally opposite and complex men destined to be together. Rory McCowan spent three years in prison for stealing horses from the Blue River Ranch. Tim Conroy has been carrying a torch for Rory from day one and talks his boss, Hunter Krause, into hiring Rory back at the same ranch he stole the horses from. Hunter makes Tim fully responsible for Rory and his actions which keeps the two men in close contact. Rory has a hard time being accepted back at the ranch but slowly proves his worth as a good ranch hand. Tim wants to help Rory even more and offers to teach Rory how to ride so that he can become a wrangler and make more money. Rory tries to push Tim away and plans to leave the ranch as soon as his parole is up but he can't shake him. Rory also can't shake his awful past and feelings of worthlessness, abandoned by his mother at the age of six to grow up mostly on the streets, turning tricks at sixteen, PTSD from serving in Iraq and more arrests than you can shake a stick at. He cannot see why anyone would be interested in him especially the perpetually optimistic Tim so Rory finds his courage in a bottle and lives as a functional alcoholic. Tim and the others at the ranch miss the alcoholism until one day Tim finds Rory at a motel they had used for sex going through withdrawal. Rory is admitted to the hospital and treated with Tim by his side coaching and protecting him all the way. Tim has his own experiences with alcohol from an alcoholic mother and middle brother and knows the ups and downs of recovery. I liked both Tim and Rory quite a bit once I understood what motivated them to do what they did. The speech that Rory gave at the AA meeting for his six months sober was very touching. There were times that I wanted to slap both men for the way they treated each other. Tim gave too much and Rory didn't give enough. Ms Owens wove many wonderful secondary characters into the story who helped both Tim and Rory and gave depth to the romance story. The story flowed extremely well with a good mix of action, sex and emotional play. I recommend this book highly to anyone looking to invest themselves emotionally in a great cowboy romance.

Tim has been keeping tabs on Rory while he has been in prison. When he is eligible for parole, Tim gets Rory a job on the ranch. The same ranch where Rory got into trouble in the first place. Tim takes on the responsibility of Rory and has to fight hard to prove that Rory deserves a fresh start with a clean slate. Rory doesn’t know why Tim has gone to so much trouble, but is thankful. Rory has some secrets that he keeps hidden, but as he gets closer to Tim he decides it is time for him to get clean.

This was very well-written and I did like the dynamics between Tim and Rory and the progression of their story. Rory has had a crap hand dealt him and there are vague references to things that have happened to him in the past. When Rory and Tim meet up again, the sparks are still between them, but Rory has a lot he needs to work through before he is truly comfortable. And Tim has a hard time trying to get people to accept Rory, especially his brother.

There is conflict where there needn’t have been any, if certain people had kept their noses out. As Tim and Rory had enough to deal with and because of one person’s interfering Rory nearly loses everything. Even with Tim standing by his side it is still a near run thing. Tim is a lovely character and he is far from as gullible or naïve as some people think him to. He is strong-willed when he believes in something and he believes in Rory 100%. Rory really isn’t sure about Tim at first and it takes him a while to realize that Tim is serious about him and won’t let him down.

Tim and Rory are really hot together and are well suited. They complement each other and each has something within themselves that the other needs. We also briefly catch up with Gable and Flynn, Hunter and Grant (grrr) and some of the other characters from both Clouds and Rain and Earth and Sky and for me some of them are still not likeable.

So ,with this one I am going to recommend it to those who love troubled men, hot cowboys, hot sex, a bit of danger, a bit of angst, a strong-willed young man and a happy ever after.

2.5/5 (a good part of this rating is based on the narrator chosen to read this book)

Tim Conroy is the probably the most level headed and laid back of the three Conroy brothers. He’s also the only Conroy not to be in love with a Krause. The object of Tim’s affection has been Rory McCown since that first kiss three years ago. Tim has waited for Rory to get out of prison and plans to do everything he can to keep Rory on the ranch once he’s released.

Rory can’t believe it when he walks out of jail to find Tim Conroy waiting for him. He goes back to work at the Blue River Ranch with a shadow over his head. Not everyone believes that Rory has changed, they still just see the man that helped steal their horses all those years ago. But stealing horses is the furthest thing from Rory’s mind. Rory has some deep seeded emotional issues, slight PTSD, likes his drink a little too much and can’t keep his mind of the man that gave him his second chance.

Tim pursues Rory as forcefully as Rory pushes Tim away, it’s almost hysterical. Their very relationship is defined by the push and pull of their differing personalities. I loved the story itself and the concept of the characters, even getting to visit with various people we’ve come to love over this series. Gabel, Flynn, Hunter and Grant along with the unpredictable Krause women. What I didn’t like was the narration. Jeff Gelder has ruined, oops sorry, taken over another beloved series and completely destroyed it! What happened to Paul Morey (narrated books 1 & 2 in this series)?

Owens is an accomplished writer, she has woven all these complex characters and storylines together flawlessly in her Wrangler’s series. But Gelder’s narration is the worst I’ve ever heard. He’s so monotone and flat regardless and it’s annoying as hell. Someone’s dying? Oh well, you wouldn’t know it because the inflections in his voice NEVER change. In the first two books when Gabel and Flynn, or Hunter and Grant were making love you knew by the tone of the narration what they were feeling. With this book, Tim and Ryan might as well be reading the water bill it’s so boring.

Writing, hell yes! I wish I’d READ this one. Narration, no!

Zahra Owens always puts tension in her stories, and then turns up the heat. FLOODS AND DROUGHT is the third in her Wrangler series, and all of the characters from the first two books come back to help or harm in this one. This is a complex story about complicated men who could not be more opposite one another yet are so strongly attracted to each other that Rory’s three years in prison can’t break their bond.
For Rory, as a recovering alcoholic, there will never be a full-on HEA, but by the end he’s taking things one day at a time, attending AA meetings, and accepting the love of his partner. For Tim, who is a little too much of a Pollyanna, reality starts to set in and he is beginning to acknowledge that the rest of their lives will be an uphill climb. But, the bad guy gets caught, the good guys get their chance at happiness, and life goes on at the Blue River Ranch. You don’t have to read the series in order to enjoy FLOODS AND DROUGHT, but I highly recommend it for the increase in enjoyment of the tale of this large family, their friends and employees, complicated by divorces, marriages, children, and gay partnerships. This is a great set of cowboy romances.

It's an angst filled but entertaining look into the lives of two totally opposite men who in reality compliment each other nicely. They've had completely different upbringings and see the world from dissimilar viewpoints. Yet the author did a good job getting them together in a realistic time interval. Not rushed like so often happens, but allowing Rory to work through his problems. It's not easy. It's often painful and is filled with swirling emotions but life isn't simple. It's hard and Ms. Owens tackled Rory's problems head-on, dealing tastefully with his alcohol addiction.

There were times I wanted to slap Rory for almost throwing away his chance at happiness but then we'd get a snippet of why. It was like peeling an onion and learning a little about him with each new layer. You had to feel sorry for the guy. He just couldn't seem to catch a break until Tim came into his life.

I like the details of the daily ranch life, the family dynamics, how the author dealt with Rory's emotional upheaval and the various twists and turns, including the villain. The story has a nice, even pace and plenty of hot cowboy sex. What more could you want? Enjoy.

Rory and Tim's story. Tim is patiently waiting for Rory after falling in love with him since the first time He saw him. Rory is in jail due to trouble with the law. Tim convinces his brother to give Rory a second chance, when his parole time comes. Last thing Rory expected while coming out of jail was for the man he kissed once 3 years ago be there. Rory has suffered a lot, never being really loved and has many secrets. But with Tim's patience, love and help He finally conquers his demons. Rory and Tim can be happy and accepted by the family.

Have no idea where the plot for this came. As much as I enjoyed the last book in the series, I was disappointed in this one. If you want to read a novel that is so depressing it will make you want to slash your wrists, this is for you. It was not for me.

Thinking more about it, I find that I don't even care about the main characters and won't feel that I need to read book 4 to see if the series can be salvaged. Probably would have returned the book to Audible if it hadn't have got lost in my library.

I Love a good cowboy story. This wasn't one. I have read 3 books in this series and this was definitely my lease favorite of the series. The other 2 were only 3 star reads, this one was maybe 2.5* I just couldn't connect with or even like the characters. I had high hopes for this one because I liked Tim from book 2. Oh well. I will probably read book 4 at some point.

Pretty good western m/m romance about a guy freshly paroled from prison who's given a job as a ranch hand at the same ranch he went to prison for stealing from. But the handsome wrangler supervisor he once shared a kiss with is vouching for him, so he's stuck.

3.75 probably.

More likable MC's, but way too much happening. Sometimes things were referenced, but never explored. I felt puzzled. Charlie? Voices? There was more to be explored.

Still, a decent conclusion.

You have to know that Tim's feelings for Rory are true because he waited 3 long years for him to get out of prison. I love the characters and the theory behind this story, but I just didn't feel it while reading this, something was just missing in this book.
