Life has never been more awful for young James Moody. Between social isolation and a series of family tragedies he manages to mostly stay cheerful, but in his darkest hours he finds his soul transported to 'Root,' a way station for souls in transition. When his lapses become more frequent and Reapers attempt to hasten his transit to the land of the dead, he finds salvation in a community of dream weavers who defy the powers-that-be by exploiting the loopholes of the after lands. Is there life after death?
First in a series of 4 books, Frelsi, The Deeps and Penult. Book 5 (Loom) is currently being serialized on Wattpad.
Root (Liminality) is a very interesting concept. Getting there seems easy enough, but staying there seems almost impossible. The book flows pretty easily and you are introduced to James for most of it. The characters are lovable (and hatable where appropriate). While I really enjoyed the book I can't help but feel that it was unfinished. Since this is first in a series I'm assuming that was intentional. It definitely left me wondering what happens next and I'll be buying book two as soon as I finish this review.
