Egads...if I were kidnapped by a guy that I knew was a murderer, and that his main goal was to kill me again, I don't think I'd be having dinner with him (while I am his captive) or having polite nightly tête-à-têtes. Or having discussions with him about how he's developing romantic feelings about me.

There was absolutely no sense of urgency in this book. No sense of "I must escape now! I must get away from these psychos while I can, at any cost." While our intrepid little heroine, Abby, does manage to escape twice, I (as the reader) didn't really feel like a) she was going to get very far and b) didn't really feel that she really wanted to leave. If I were in her shoes, I would spend every waking moment thinking of ways to escape, of how to make contact with the outside world. I certainly wouldn't spend my time learning how to make risotto, watch hours upon hours of TV, play video games, etc. A little rain won't deter me. And I would most certainly not be quite as civil as she was with my kidnapper. Every ounce of hatred and fear and loathing I had for him would be oozing from me. He would know, unequivocally, that there was no way in hell I would ever consider having any kind of relationship with him, romantic or otherwise. He would know that I abhorred him.

Don't get me wrong. This wasn't Stockholm syndrome light. Not once did Abby identify with her kidnappers or justify what they were doing. But she empathized with him towards the end. While he wanted Abby to be part of their plans and accept her role in it (even accept her torture sessions openly), I was glad when Sinclair didn't actually go there, because she could've. Abby was such a passive kidnapping victim that it was so odd that she never railed against her captors or seemed psychologically traumatized by her experience. It all seemed so...derived. That's it --- it was very contrived and derivative. And ultimately frustrating.

Oh...and what happened to the tracker in her arm? Hmmm...will Book 4 be The Mystery of the Mysterious Missing Tracker?

*sigh*

Still, I read the whole thing. Cover to cover. And I will do so with the fourth book, whenever it comes out. I'm too far in it now not to finish the series. I just hope it ends soon.

A couple of days ago I finished my third book for this year in English without using a dictionary.

It's the sequel to my last book that I read. It's getting more thrilling, and in this book the murder's past became apparent. All mysteries related to the first book and second book started linking.
Although all mysteries seemed to be solved in this book, some new mysteries came up.

I'm looking forward to the forth book, fifth book and sixth book.

They get better and better. I read most of this while on the recumbent bike at the gym. I would have read longer but a lady was giving me the evil eye to get off the bike... or perhaps it was a ghost. Hmmm

I love this series. My emotions are all over the place with this series. I will not stop until I have read everyone one of these books but will be sad when it’s over.

My Overall Thoughts

Sinclair does a really great job of recapping what has happened in other books without making it seem like a summary. Which is really nice because I tend to read these books really far apart from each other, so the refresher helps a lot. The whole book Abby was in an extremely weird and unsettling situation. In fact, I found some parts of the book a little hard to believe. But in spite of that, the story line completely reeled me in. It was a short (197 pages) and good read– just like all the others I finished reading it in 2 days. I like reading these books in between really long ones. These books you definitely have to read in order or you will not understand a darn thing thats going on. So don’t hesitate to pick up this book for quick read! I know the Kindle edition on Amazon is super cheap (like $3).

Pros

I’m going to start this section by talking about Jesse because he has honestly been my favorite part of the series since book 1. I was so excited when Jesse showed back up in the story and in a more permanent way, but I’m still trying to figure him out. I feel like there’s something he is keeping from Abby, but I’m not sure why. I seriously loved the role that Jesse played in this book. I wasn’t expecting it, but it makes total sense and I don’t think the book would have been as good had he not played the role he did. Sinclair did an amazing job with that!

I can’t write a review about this book without talking about Nathaniel! He is a very crucial part of the story. It was nice to finally get a little insight into who Nathaniel is what makes him HIM. The more you learn about him you can’t help but feel a little bit bad from him— despite everything he has done. I also have to praise Sinclair for the way she made Nathaniel seem more like a human by pointing out the similarities between him and Abby. It’s very different that how he is portrayed in all the other books. I also feel like it’s a little weird that I find what Nathaniel is doing completely intriguing. I understand why it’s horrible and I’m glad I’m not in the position because I think I would be a little more willing to help than Abby is.

“The killer sitting opposite me wasn’t just a monster anymore, a cut out caricature. He was someone who had once been touched by love. And destroyed by it.”

I also really liked the cliffhanger she left. It leaves you wondering if there will be another book or not because the way it ends, it could end for good but there’s also the possibility there for another book. Luckily for me, I reading the series after all 13 books have been published. So I already know there’s another book. (plus a couple more

After reading the first two, I anxiously awaited the release of Book 3. I really enjoyed the first two books and was so disappointed in this third. The first 80% of the book dragged on and on. The pace and the plot picked up the last 20% of the book, but the plot was weak and the newer characters were underdeveloped. I cared about the characters introduced in the first two books, but, with the exception of Abby, they were barely present. The love Dr. Mortimor has for Abby is unbelievable. Someone who experiences a great love, doesn't just fall for someone else whom he barely knows and based solely on a science experiment. That whole story line made no sense to me and almost prompted me to stop reading. The ending was very satisfying. So satisfying that I have no desire to read Book 4 when it comes out. I know where the story line is heading, and those characters were so underdeveloped in this book, that I just don't care enough to read on. It's almost as if this book had a certain page requirement and the third and fourth books were squeaked out to fulfill a contract, which is so unfortunate, b/c there was so much potential.

This book was ok. After the dull and dreary second book, I had taken a hiatus from reading the series. I had read positive reviews for the fourth book and figured that since I wanted to read it, I should probably read the third book that I had been dreading.

The book was good and simply because it had little to do with her personal romantic relationships. There was excitement and a little desperation felt as Abby tried to figure out a way to get off of the island. I wasn't too thrilled that the psycho Dr. Mortimer was the archvillain but alas, it wasn't too bad. Then again, maybe it was because I came in with such low expectations.

After reading it, I was engaged and proceeded to buy book four.

44 book 3

After the ending of book 2 Abby wakes up to find herself kidnapped by Dr Nathaniel Mortimer, someone who she thought was being apprehended by his brother Ben.
she is being held prisoner on an island with Nathaniel, as he wants to experiment in her to see why his serum worked on her and her alone when it brought her back to life.

this was good to get the reason behind why Nathanial had turned out like he had. it was a bit slow to start with but picked up with that ending.
I am not sure what direction the next book will take but somerthing tells me that I don't think we are done with the Dr yet.

For a book series about a girl who sees ghosts and has to deal with being kidnapped by a doctor who wants to kill her, there doesn't seem to be a lot of urgency. I felt like I was being told that scary things were happening, but I didn't feel the scary things. I'm also not sure how I feel about the announcement that there will be a 4th book, especially since I mostly feel perfectly satisfied about how the third one ended. But who knows...I'll probably read it anyway because I'm a sucker like that.

I honestly was thinking a one star or maybe two for this one until the very end. I really haven't been impressed by these and I hate that. I don't know if it is me or the writing or the story or what but it just isn't jiving with me. Honestly I was almost on board until the dinner with my captor descriptions...it was a bit much and then the book just slugged on from there. The ending satisfied me enough though that I am really thinking of calling this my ending and leaving it at that..I have book 4 and 5 but I think I might just leave well enough alone and cut my losses.

I had an idea of what was going to happen in this book, but I was very surprised by the characters. The author has a way of introducing characters where you don't know immediately what their importance in the book will be. I like that. I like not knowing what is going to happen. I have read books like this before that are very predictable. I am almost finished with book four in this series and the author never fails to surprise me.

The story of the previous book continues. Abby is captured by Nathaniel on an island where they are doing tests on her. Most of the book is about her time on the island as a prisoner, before she gets rescued. I didn't like the storyline too much, which was way too long to keep me interested, but at least we figure out why and how Nathaniel became a murderer. Now let's see for the next book!

Expected, well what I got the last two books. What I got was different in a good way. Lots of things going on building, building to an HEA? What? You through me for a loop Jooles and I think I like that. I sure hope Abby finds a way to repay Simon, won't say for what. Starting #4 shortly. Loving this series. Never know what this author will do next.

Really good. I loved the crazy affection that Nathaniel developed for Abby. I really liked the Emma twist. Simon was an inspiration to learn how to make risotto. I just really enjoyed this one. It was like cuddling with a warm blanket. It just made me feel good even with all the angst.

This one was pretty intense. Kidnapped by a madman, Abby has to do what she can to make it out alive. With some ghostly (and corporeal) help, she gets where she needs to be. These books are such quick reads, I've read the first three in the last day and a half. I'm hooked!

This book was fantastic. I absolutely love this series. This is my third time reading this book and it still feels like the first time in reading it. This series never gets old. I can't wait to continue on with the rest of the series, and read the last few book I haven't yet.

I enjoy the 44 series novellas. Books are short, center around Abby, who was dead for 44 min due to a cold water drowning and ends up surviving. Crazy Dr Nate Mortimer claims responsibility and kidnaps her to seek out answers as to how his serum worked.
