Ethan Darny and his young cousin Ben Tyler are eking out a marginal existence as ranch hands when they find themselves involved in a violent bank hold-up. The robbery goes very wrong when the gun of one the inexperienced outlaws accidentally goes off, sparking a deadly gunfight. Two of the casualties are the town sheriff and deputy.

Wounded and frightened, Ethan, Ben and rough Will Sully start off for the infamous, lawless town of Corryville to escape capture and to formulate a plan for their unsure futures. But their flight is marred by more violence when Ethan is forced to kill an unscrupulous way-station owner named Pappy Miller.

Struggling with conscience and once again unnerved by sudden misfortune, they arrive in Corryville seeking medical attention, shelter and sustenance. They soon find themselves drawn into the deceitful, dangerous world of a vicious saloon owner named Mike Kenney, who has his own criminal plans for them.

Further complications arise when Ethan finds himself involved with displaced widow Nora Brown and her young son, Thad. Meanwhile, Ben develops a crush of his own on pretty young Fiona, who happens to be Kenney’s daughter.

The young outlaws don’t yet know that two trail-hardened veteran U.S. marshals have been charged with bringing them to justice. Moses White and Wade Loveless, two of the toughest and most determined lawmen in the territory, have been pursuing them across the Wyoming landscape and are nearing Corryville. They are accompanied by a grieving Deputy named Jim Cade, who has left his wife and young daughter to catch up with the men who killed his friends… and who may be blurring the fine line between justice and vengeance.

When the three trackers reach Corryville, events and circumstances inexorably lead to a shattering showdown between the deliberate lawmen and the reluctant outlaws, as well as Kenney and his band of cutthroats.
