got a little too "Woody Allen" for my taste. but the whole series fell off when Run became a teen. The end of book 4 was a perfect place to call it quits. In my mind that's where the series ended.

I will be the first to admit it: I often read terrible things just because I've heard they're terrible. Terrible is basically in now, because my generation is almost completely desensitized to everything. However, my favorite thing is seeing the shitstorms that arise from terrible shit. Watching a group of people come together to hate on something that is genuinely awful is a sight truly like no other. And when I saw that this was terrible, I wanted to join in on the hatefest.

On this night, I learned the difference between watching a house fire and being inside of a burning house.

It's not even like I flew too close to the terrible sun. It's like I flew too close to something bright that I thought was the sun, and it was actually a hellmouth.

10 woody allens/10, would not recommend

WHAT!!!!!???!?!?!?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My heart is broken. Legit. I am so devastated.

Rin is so insanely mature and wise for her age. Every time she's thinking deeply about something or sorting out her feelings, or responding to someone I think "If only every 16 year old in the world was this smart, the world would be an amazing place." She is wise well beyond her years, and I am continually astounded at the things she thinks, feels, and the information she has. She is a wonderful character.

Two volumes left... I am super curious to see how it all works out!

2/5 Yeah I’m not liking where the plots going. No spoilers but seriously enjoy the first 4 volumes and then just skip the rest. Things are just getting weird and not good weird. There were a couple decent chapters at the beginning, I liked Rin meeting her new sister. I just really don’t care for where the plot is devolving into. I’ll see it through to the end though….

While a slice of life manga, Bunny Drop has been following it's central characters for seven proceeding volumes and is heading towards it's conclusion in volume 9. This volume also has significant plot developments. It really isn't a good place to start reading.

** Note: There will be no spoilers for volume 8 in this review, but I will be discussing the structure of the series as a whole in general terms as well as my thoughts on the authors choices (in vague language without plot details).**

Bunny Drop volumes 1-4 were the story of thirty year old bachelor Daikichi and his choice to adopt a six year old relation (Rin) that no one else would help. It explored the everyday difficulties of being a parent an was quite excellent. Volume 5 saw a ten year jump ahead to Rin's high school years. The story put more focus on the characters social lives, rather than the family dynamics from the first half. I still found it enjoyable, but not as quite as good.

While there isn't another time skip, Volume 8 moves the story in a somewhat different direction again. It's built well, is totally consistent with previous volumes and is true to the characters... and is very much something many people aren't going to be happy or comfortable with. This is NOT where you would have guessed the series would go when you started volume 1, nor even when volume 5 shook things up. It's not particularly where I want things to go.

But this isn't my story, this is Yumi Unita's. And this volume really is exceptional in the way the story unfolds, from writing to artistic touches to characterization, etc. It's a great installment in the series even if it's not what I expected or hoped for.

So if you can't check your preconceived notions at the front page, this really probably isn't worth reading nor the series continuing with. If you're ok with going where Unita wants to take you, this is a highly recommended piece of writing and art. Just again, be forewarned...

I love how things are growing with Rin and her birth mother's relationship. Otherwise I felt a bit sorry for the 3 main characters (Daikichi, Rin, and Kouki) in this volume. Daikichi because of Kouki's mom getting married, Kouki for his one-sided love of Rin, and Rin for her confusion and struggle with her feeling for Daikichi. I really enjoyed how the volume progressed though. Hopefully I'll finish the series today.

Some very heartwarming moments between Rin and her mom--especially Rin remembering the lullaby. But other things are heading in a very weird direction that hopefully will be worked out before the series ends.

AHHH! (^~^)/* Go Go! I'm really enjoying thisssssss! Daikichi is so <33333!
Has anyone else noticed how much more attractively Daikichi is drawn in these later volumes than in the earlier ones? He's really like a fine wine, eh? ;D

This book is the beginning of the manga's kind of disturbing/disappointing ending. Rin has feelings for Daikichi? Really? That is a terrible idea on Yumi Unita's part...though I suppose it's more original than her falling for Kouki. She should've stopped at volume 4.

A somewhat strange but not by any means unusual plot twist. I've seen similar things in other books. I still like the writing style, which is full of introspection on Rin's part.

Even though Rin has now met her mother she still doesn't feel a connection. Even learning that her mother never forgot about her. However, she's thrilled to learn that her Mom is pregnant and she'll be a "big sister". However, she doesn't want to tell Daikichi because she believes he'll be angry since he's never forgiven her mother for abandoning her. Something Masako later realizes was an error and regrets. Daikichi and Rin fight when she wants to see the baby but Rin ignores him and leaves to visit anyway not understanding the worry and emotions that lead to his outburst. He only is concerned she'll get hurt being confronted by the image of her mother caring for a baby when she was abandoned.

When Kouki learns of his mother's impending remarriage it makes him feel awkward because he's never thought of her as a "woman" before just "Mom". Rin doesn't understand this because Daikichi has always been Daikichi and although he's been her guardian she's never considered him her parent. Rin is also struggling when it comes to the whole "romance" feelings her peers are getting and is a bit envious of other people her ages who seem to have no issues. What really is the difference between familial love and romantic love? She must come to grips with how she's feeling.

Things I like about this series:
- the mature, down-to-earth tone. Mundane day-to-day life.
- the realistic outcome of events. Relationships not working out. Parents getting re-married. Teens behaving badly, then shaping up as they age.
- "villainous" girls turning out to have more depth and motivation
- different body types and face shapes for different characters, even female ones.
- random realistic details, like newborn babies having misshapen heads.
- learning about Japanese culture, especially when it comes to childcare and single parenthood
- the plot, in general, as in "single parents in unconventional family situations making things work out."

Things I don't like about this series:
- Eight volumes in, EIGHT VOLUMES IN (out of NINE), and we RANDOMLY INTRODUCE AN INCEST PLOT. Where the HELL did THIS come from?!?!?!?!

Christ. I'd hoped her date with that nice guy would work out...

I'm gonna keep an open mind and... hope this is just puberty and misguided thoughts, etc, but I'm afraid it's actually gonna Go There for real.

I first started reading Bunny Drop back in 2012 and thought it was really cute, so I bought all the volumes up to 7 (which were all that had been published in English at the time). The story and characters go a bit downhill once Rin reaches her teen years, so I actually only ever read through volume 6, but always kind of meant to go back and continue the series eventually. Cut to years later and I learned about the problematic turn the story takes by the end:

Despite that, I've had fond memories of the first few volumes and still owned volumes 1-7 for almost a decade. I needed to decide whether to keep or unhaul the manga, so I finally re-read and completed the unread portions of the manga, since there's only ten volumes. And yeah, it for sure goes downhill after volume 4, and the uncomfortable topic begins in volume 8. I am sort of glad to finally have finished the series and seen for myself how the story devolves. While I do genuinely still like the beginning of this series, I won't be rating any of them because I don't want to encourage anyone to begin reading without knowing the trajectory the story takes, and I don't really want to further support an author who would write this kind of storyline (I read the last three volumes I didn't already own through online scans).

For new readers, I would definitely suggest stopping either after volume 4 or volume 7. Both of those volumes have decent ending points without any of the weirdness of the final volumes. But also this is one of those cases where you should definitely know spoilers before deciding to start reading.

No. No. No. No. I should have heeded my brothers warnings about just watching the show or stopping at the fourth manga. But instead I was a fool. Lowkey wanted to rate this lower just because ya know, that whole thingy. But like the art and the whole thing with her mom is lovely. I feel so freaking bad for Kouki, this poor boy. I swear if she doesn’t end up with him I might have an aneurism. I do not vibe with what is happening right now. Give me back the cute father-daughter relationship back now. Please.

Well I seem to be the only one - when I entered into this series I heard some spillers and I thought I wasn’t going to like the end of this series (after book 4) but to be honest I actually don’t mind where this is going. There’s a lot of Japanese stuff writes where young girls like older guys and I guess I already got used to it even if I don’t really understand it. But in this case, they know themselves so well and I love the banter and how much they care for each other, I don’t know, I guess I would go another way if it was my book but I’m not too mad about it

Just because I don't like where this is going.

The story was going good until Rin started having weird feelings. I thought she will be exploring more about her mother, getting to know her and her situation. But nope, she somehow without any foreshadowing started having this feeling towards Dai.

Like, why? Why would mangaka do this to them? I mean it does create drama, but it could have been better?... ugh! Idk.

I hope it changes and she can get over it.

I don't want to spoil the plot here, but I will say the reveal of this volume greatly disappointed me. It made the first volumes that follow her childhood take on a whole new and concerning light. I did end up finishing the series (I had already checked them all out from the library) but at this point, it was more of a hope that Rin would see reason.

J'ai un peu été "choquée" par les sentiments que Rin commence à éprouver vis à vis d'une certaine personne et j'espère que vraiment ça ne va pas durer sinon ça va devenir long et ennuyeux et je serai déçue.

There will be spoiler in these few sentences I will say. To put it bluntly, I hoped it will stay as a daughter-father relationship... I saw few ideas floating around and I hoped, this won't turn to some romance manga.

First 4 volumes are fine. After that, not so much. It all becomes pretty grossin retrospect. Don't recommend it. I couldn't sleep so I decided to read a series that I had very little context for other than people hated the ending. I see why.
