Michael Thompson had no idea that his camping trip to Dark Hollow Falls would be his worst and last day on earth or that his teenage daughter, Sydney, would be gravely wounded and orphaned in the same savage attack. Sydney’s ultimate betrayal occurred at the one place she believed was her sanctuary. When that realization coalesced with the certainty her father was dead, Sydney’s only wish was to linger in her semi-conscious state until she could die.
Psychologist and FBI agent Shawn Cleary begins her investigation without knowing that the man who will become the Park Slasher is still a threat to the youngster. As she patiently works to establish a relationship with the wounded girl, more National Park attacks occur. Shawn pursues evidence and a confusing trail through the grandeur of the Smoky Mountains and the majesty of Yosemite.
Still hospitalized at D.C. General, Sydney’s slow recovery is hampered by a maniacal child psychologist and a custody fight that could cause the FBI agent to cross an ethical line. A second attempt to kill the beleaguered teenager further buries her memory of the events at Dark Hollow Falls. Shawn’s developing relationship with Sydney enables her to probe the girl’s mind leading the FBI to the San Francisco home of the misguided killer.
Agents sift through false clues until a startling discovery in California sends Shawn and her team to Glacier National Park with the knowledge that the attacks are more personal than the FBI could have believed. Amid blizzard conditions, Shawn leads her wary team to the treacherous, snow covered trails of Glacier for a stunning confrontation that will allow Shawn to either capture the Park Slasher and his cohorts or allow them to escape forever.

I read a book a day and this is the best book I have read in months! Plot, characters, action, suspense it keeps you guessing from chapter to chapter. Female protagonist lead is excellent as well as male lead counterparts. I like the way the writer is carrying out several plots at one time. Everyone is connected in the book and there are a lot of characters, but it is not hard to keep up with the relationships or who each one is,in aspect to their name or position. I like the fact that it doesn't seem made up. It actually reads like the headlines we would see in the newspaper or read a book about as a true crime story. Kudos A+++
FBI agent Shawn Cleary is on the trail of another serial killer, this one dubbed the Park Slasher. He completely destroys hikers or campers in National Parks. Only two children survive his vicious attacks.
AFTER READING THE FIRST BOOK IN THIS SERIES, I SAID I WOULD NOT READ ANYMORE. WELL, I AM TRUE TO MY BIRTH SIGN (LEO) I READ THE SECOND ONE. CURIOSITY AND ALL, GOT THE BEST OF ME. I COULDN'T LET IT BE, I LIKED THIS ONE BETTER, JUSTA' BIT. I KNEW WHO THE KILLERS WERE AFTER ONE OF THEM WAS INTRODUCED EARLY IN THE BOOK, LATER WHEN HE WAS DISCRIBED IT MATCHED HIM. MY PROBLEM WITH THIS BOOK IS THE AUTHOR HAS WAY TOO MANY USELESS CHARACTERS, MAYBE TO CONFUSE US READERS I AM NOT CONFUSED, ONLY ANNOYED. STORYLINE KEEPS JUMPING FROM ONE CHARACTER TO ANOTHER. THERE ARE SO MANY CHARACTERS YOU NEED A SCORE CARD TO REMEMBER WHO IS WHO. I EXPECTED JUST SO MUCH REHASHING OF BOOK ONE SOME WERE WORD FOR WORD. ALL IN ALL I PROBABLY WILL READ THE THIRD INSTALLMENT, HOPEFULLY SHE WILL END IT THERE. I HOPE THE THIRD BOOK WON'T HAVE TO MUCH OF BOOKS ONE & TWO IN IT, A LITTLE OF THAT GOES A LONG WAY WITH ME. LIKE I SAID ITS NOT A BAD READ.
Had to get the second one after reading the first!
Again, enjoyably written with humor, character g sympathy, drama, turmoil, and solution.
Aside: As with all the books I have thus far read, I really do wish that proof reading and editng were done more conscientiously. Not only do I find this annoying, but character references are often not accurate, or clothing from minute to minute can be different...oddly while driving. Just an observation, Albeit, annoying.x
This book was pretty awesome. It was kind of screwed up, but definitely very elaborate and creative. The imagery was very vivid. The characters were relatable and easily drawn to. The ending made me angry, plucked me right at my heart strings! I'll definitely continue reading the series.
Enjoyed the book. It will keep your interest. I do think the author tends to overuse proper names when he or she would suffice. as a general rule people don't keep using names during a conversation. I'm nitpicking here.
Rating 3.5; Basic plot and how it progresses is not that great. The heroine is likable and interactions with the supporting cast is folksy and endearing
