Aftershock: Artists Respond to Disaster in Japan

Rate this book
In response to the combined disasters of the tsunami, earthquake and nuclear meltdown that occurred in Japan in March, 2011, cartoonists from all over the world came together to share their thoughts and feelings. Over 35 contributors banded together over 5 continents to create an open letter of support and love through the medium of comics. Artists from many disciplines including manga and indie/art comics create a well balanced look at what the nation of Japan means to people all over the world.

Aftershock is a Not My Small Diary-esque collection of (mostly) autobio comics, dealing with this year's disaster in Japan, or with Japan in general.
Here were my personal favorites:

Jason Young - "I Can't Hear You"
Carrie McNinch (untitled)
Adam Paison - "Only in Japan"
Jeffrey Brown - "Waves"
Ben Snakepit (untitled)

P.S. For some reason Good Reads only lists a Kindle edition. I actually read the paperback edition, which you can buy here:

A wonderfully conceived book that collected together comics artists to raise money for relief in Japan following the 2011 earthquake. That said, as a book it perhaps unsurprisingly features a lot of work that feels scrambled together and not particularly well thought out. Glad I purchased it, and would encourage others to do the same to support the idea of artists using their skills to contribute to the greater good.
