As leader of a fox skulk, Cody is used to feeling protective of his people. But when his best friend, Misty, gets attacked, the panic he feels has nothing to do with duty. Suddenly, he’s noticing Misty as a woman instead of the girl he grew up with. Is he willing to risk their friendship to pursue a relationship with her?
Misty has loved Cody for years, but he’s always viewed her as one of the guys. She’s tried everything to show him how perfect they would be together, without success. Now, he’s looking at her like she always dreamed he would. But every time she gets close, he pulls away.
Neither see the danger lurking in the background. Someone is plotting against the foxes, leaving them all in jeopardy…especially Misty. Can Cody overcome his fears in time to save the woman he loves?
I love romance. I love reading romance, living romance (who doesn't), but I especially love writing romance. There's no greater feeling than watching my characters come alive in each other's arms. Most of all, I love giving my characters the happily ever afters they deserve, with a little necessary drama first.
When I pick up a new book and can sink into the story, immersing myself in the emotions between the characters, I know I've found a keeper. I hope someday to inspire readers the same way my favorite authors have inspired me.
I love to hear from readers so feel free to email me at sondraebennett@gmail.com or check out my blog to learn more about me. I dedicate *most* Mondays on my blog to books I'm in love with so come on over and join the fun.
So far, I think this story has been my favorite in the series. Which is strange because I didn't think I'd enjoy a step away from Alpine Woods to deal with the fox shifters. But it was all tied together through the danger introduced to Julie in the last book. It started out kind of slow, but once I got into it, I didn't want to put it down and stayed up well past my bedtime to finish.
It was strange how Cody didn't recognize Misty as his mate for so long. But when he did, it all fell into place for him. There were some really LOL moments. Like when she adopted the abandoned baby fox and he was like "what is that?" That was a pretty funny scene. And the scene he had to teach her to fight. That was pretty hilarious. And I loved how the ending leads up to Danny's book.
A friends-to-lovers story. Nothing you haven't seen before. It's too short to make the villain more interesting than ridiculous. At one point in the story, the author forgot which type of shifter she is writing about.
I keep coming back to these stories expecting more because the world sounds interesting and I love shifter stories.
Worth Fighting For is the fourth instalment of the enjoyable Alpine Woods Shifters series and has everything that you would expect from a Sondrae Bennett book.
This is Cody and Misty’s story. Cody is the Premier of the fox skulk that was introduced in the first instalment where he ran into the lost Arctic wolf, Samantha. He has always thought that Samantha was the one that got away and was the only female who could have potentially been his mate. That is until his best friend Misty gets attacked and his feelings towards her become more than protecting her as a friend or duty as she is part of the skulk.
Misty has always been in love with Cody, as she is always perceived as ‘one of the guys’, she never dreamed that one day he would feel the same way.
A threat to the Skulk and to Misty personally puts Cody’s feelings into perspective and needs to overcome his fears to act on them.
This is a quick enjoyable read that has humour, action and hot sexy scenes in abundance. It is great to catch up with all the Alpine Woods shifters again as they all look out for each other like one big family. It is easy to get absorbed in the Alpine Woods world as Sondrae Bennett’s writing has the ability to draw the reader in and share the emotions that each character is feeling. It’s always good to finish a book that leaves a smile on your face.
Worth Fighting For is the fourth installment in Sondrae Bennett’s Alpine Woods Shifter series. I have read them all four novellas and enjoyed each one in different ways. Each story carries romance, adventure and humor. This story carries a bit more emotions then the others because Misty is a bit more emotional. That’s another thing I like about Sondrae writing, she writes each of her characters with their own personalities.
This is a nice quick sexy novella read. I loved the characters and found they really connected with each other even though Misty and Cody has emotional feelings to workout. These two are in love with each other and you really feel it as you read the story.
I recommend this book as a standalone or please read the whole series to anyone who likes a paranormal romance novellas.
This is book 4 in the Alpine Woods shifter series. This was the story of Cody and Misty. He is the head of the Fox group/Skulk and she was his best friend. That is until he realizes something she has known all along. After some misunderstandings and some big mistakes, things take off. There is was riot and protesters. There is betrayal, conspiracy and attempted murder. What more could You're Welcome ask for when finding a mate? Lol. This was a good story.
This piece begins with the Vulpes Creek foxes hearing about Julie Callahan's kidnapping when Samantha calls their skulk premier, Cody asking for help. Misty remembers Julie from childhood and wants to help but she can't fight and can't get over her jealousy that Cody though Samantha was his mate, trodding on Misty's dream of being Cody's mate.
Oblivious to Misty's feelings for him, Cody treats Misty no different than his male. Calling for volunteers to help their friendly wolf neighbors, Cody sees Misty joining the group but knows his friend lacks fighting skills and tries to get her to stay home. The best Cody can do is get Misty's grudging promise to follow the group and not fight.
As the fight ends, Misty's attacked and Cody rushes her side as answers to the events leading to Julie's kidnapping become clear. Before long the skulk has trouble in their own territory.
This outing reads like a more complete and notably less rushed novella than its predecessors with a fleshier storyline complementing a more mature writing style and more evolved characters. Mentions of other shifter societies hint at possible future interlocking stories that could turn this lightweight series of shorts into a novel length series. Rating: 3.75stars
I have admitted before that novella’s are not really something I read a lot, but Sondrae Bennett had opened me up to a whole new world with her Alpine Woods Shifters books. I read the previous three novella’s in this series in one weekend and did a mini-review of each of them on my blog.
Cody has been a character we have seen before and I loved him from the first moment we met him. I was itching to get my hands on his story and was so psyched to see that his was up next. Since we have already met him and Misty, we are familiar with them and invested in their lives. The other books focus more on the wolves and we finally get a peek into the lives of the foxes in Worth Fighting For. Cody has grown up with Misty and has always seen her as a one of the guys and his closest friend. He never imagined they could be more than that to each other, but Misty did. She has been fighting for his attention for quite some time and has almost given up hope. It is not until Misty gets hurt in a fight that happened at the end of the previous book that picks back up in this one, that Cody sees how truly important Misty is to him. Once he finally gives into his feelings for her, wow! Those two are hot! Sondrae manages to pack some steamy scenes into these pages.
Even though this is a novella, Sondrae still packs in all the elements I love. I mentioned the smoking hot romance, but there is also plenty of action and an overall villain trying to spoil everyone’s plans as well. The villain is one that overlaps a little from the previous book and I liked that Sondrae tied in older plot lines and continues them on in Worth Fighting For.
There is a lot of humor laced throughout as well. The relationship that Cody and Misty share includes witty banter that comes with years of knowing someone. This led to some very cute moments between the two of them and had me laughing out loud numerous times.
Overall, this is another great addition to this series. I love these shifters and Sondrae continues to suck me in with each new story. I cannot pick these books up without reading them cover to cover in one sitting. My only complaint continues to be that I wish they could be longer. And really that is not a complaint at all, just me wanting more, haha. These could easily be turned into full length novels, but I will take whatever I can get. I would highly recommend these books to anyone looking for a good, fast, sexy read. You can read them out of order, but I would start at the beginning with Artic Winds and go forward from there.
Misty has had a best friend from the time they met in middle school and is now in love with him. Problem is he only sees her as a friend or loveable little sister. Oh, and he is the Premier of their fox skink. Which means every other woman is after him.
Misty tries everything to gain Cody's attention, even getting him liquored up at their monthly movie night and trying to seduce him....with no success. She even sneaks around his house and sees another woman there and watches how attracted he is to that woman and is heartbroken.
Why doesn't he see her that way? It isn't until Misty decides to leave town that Cody starts to appreciate Misty in another way. But are these two destined to be mates?
Is it possible in a world where shifters take one look at their mate and the animal side of them recognizes that mate immediately that they are destined to be mates and he just doesn't recognize it?
Cody starts to see that the very reasons that made Misty his best friend are some of the reasons that would make her his perfect mate. And when her life is at stake and is beaten and chased by a angry mob of protesters he is so angry at his failure to save her that it brings out the inner fox in him and he hears the obvious that she is his mate...nothing will stop him now.
Pros-nice story, good length (previous books sometimes were a little rushed) good chemistry between characters. Cons-sometimes a bit disjointed....example Misty was going to go to New York and live with her Father who was coming to get her. She called it off but I would have liked to see how she could convince a protective father not to come for his daughter who was so sad and miserable.
All-n-all, Nice read. Can't wait for next installment.

Since Misty became a young woman, she fell in love with her best friend Cody; but he always saw her as his little sister. But she's had enough… and tries to seduce him, unsuccessfully.
However, the moment she is in danger, Cody starts to see her as a woman; his woman. And slowly discovers he was blinded by their friendship and that he had all along the love he wanted.
I thought that the first book was the best of the series, but I was wrong. In my opinion, this book, the forth book of Alpine Woods Shifters’s series, is the best one.
I laughed when I read the trick Misty tried… to get Cody drunk and then to seduce him. And loved the tension and jokes Ms. Sondrae Bennett knew so well to add to the story. Because she created a strong, deep, and lovely main characters and she knew how to incorporate them into the story. Yet, they are a perfect match to the rest of the characters, giving the story a feeling of reality.
It was easy for me to imagine the whole book, to see it thru the eyes of Cory and Misty. A wonderful and touchable book, it deserves 5 stars.
I love stories where the main characters know each other since childhood yet one of them doesn't realize his/her feelings until later. This is what happened in this story. Cody is a fox shifter from the first book. He's a good, caring, serious alpha for the red fox shifters that neighbor the wolves, from the previous stories. Misty is his childhood best friend. Misty has been in love with Cody since childhood, but had lost all hope of any type of relationship between them, apparently Cody only saw her as a friend, as one of the guys. After Misty gets hurt, Cody's protective instincts start rising, along with sexual thoughts of his friend. After they get in an argument b/c as an alpha Cody is stubborn and says some rude things to Misty, they finally make love and enter a relationship. Cody wounds Misty since he wasn't sure that she was his mate, but this could be b/c he was constantly exposed to her since they were children. There is some trouble, Misty gets hurt, then some more trouble, and he finally realizes she is his mate...and they lived happily ever after :-)
I love how the action is building in the series and we're getting to see more of the shifter world. But I don't think I enjoyed this one as much as books 2 & 3, mostly because I found Misty a little bratty at first and I didn't like her using alcohol to take advantage of someone. However at least that was addressed. I liked the humour and enjoyed the use of porn, and I really like the idea of hybrid shifters, I like to think of what weird combinations there would be! I am excited for the next book too. I'd like to know what happened to Oscar though and are there any bird or reptile shifters?
* Edit 26/2/15 - I'm pushing it up two stars, as with rereading Misty has grown on me. She's still a ditz though, but a lovable one.
Rate of 4.5 stars. What an adorable read. Friend who pined for years for a relationship to be “more” and failed at everything she did to improve this “friendship”. This book had such a “reality” feeling, that you felt like you were there as a part of the story watching it progress, and you wanted to hit Cody upside of his head for being so dense. I have only had only one small complaint about this series - that the books and story are not long enough. I continue to look forward to the next adverture.
I really liked this book! I liked how the author started this one right where the last one ended and gave another perspective. The characters were great and Misty was a hoot! I like when there's comedy thrown in even during the turmoil. This book was a bit longer than the others and seemed to have more of a threat thrown in. I have to say, the ending was great and I really can't wait to read Danny's story next!
The angst in this novel is well written compared to all the others in this series. I love the whole fact Misty is not willing to give up her love for Cody. She fights until the very end when he finally accepts it.
This is the best one so far. I loved the couple in this story, they made me laugh out loud a few times. They were so cute together. Funny how each book gets better and longer, this one was about 117 pages.
Contrary to most readers who loved this book, this was an okay from me. Two best friends since young and then turned couples afterward. Typical. Anyway, I liked the action scenes.
Like how she does not take no for an answer and how amusing she is. Cody is a catch, now that he got his head out of his butt over Samantha. Can't wait for the next one!
