Bluegrass superstar Nic Taylor is ruined by the publication of a romance novel he swears isn’t about him. Forced out of his legendary father’s band, Nic quits the green hills of Tennessee for the seaside paradise of Malibu, California. There he must confront June Cricket, a real-life fan who isn’t about to back down from writing the sequel that could make her a star.
Take Me for Longing is a romance novella--the first in the American Heartstrings Trilogy.
Felice Fox almost certainly time-traveled during a feverish bout with The Kissing Disease.
She began writing professionally in 2001 and is a bestselling author in the non-fiction market under another name. Her work appears in online learning courses and many popular websites too. Take Me for Longing, the first novella in the American Heartstrings Series, is Felice’s fiction debut.
Felice is a graduate of McGill University. She works, loves and listens to bluegrass music in Los Angeles, California.
I normally do not read romance, so it's hard to give this a fare rating for a fans of romance novels. I'm more into the music part of it, especially the bluegrass, where I'm a fan of the genre, and play a little banjo myself. I did feel the love interests were forced a little, things rushed together, maybe if the book was a little longer, more tension between the two, but then again, I'm not one of her typical readers. I did manage to get through it three sittings, it was an easy read, enough drama, and the sex was nice and steamy. Overall, not bad.
June is the author of a bestselling novel and now her secret muse has been revealed. Of course none of the steamy scenes she wrote about actually happened with Nic…but a girl can dream right? And then write about it? But once he is revealed as the inspiration to June’s novel his life goes from Bluegrass celeb to a nobody when his father kicks him out of the family band. This is not at all what June wanted for the married man. Yes she had feelings for him but she doesn’t want to be a home wrecker.
Nic has followed his ex out to LA so he can still be a father to his 14 yr old son. LA is nothing like the hills of Tennessee, and everything is taking some getting used to. And when an accidental meet up happens with the woman who helped ruin his life, Nic realizes there are still feelings there. Can everything fall into place for these 2 young lovers or will a decision be the end of them before they even get a chance to get started?
Never have I read a book with anything Bluegrass related. But I loved it...reminded me of the days my family and I would go out to the Bluegrass festivals in Arkansas. As the author states...Bluegrass is all about a much simpler time...and it really is.
I really enjoyed the whole book…the characters, the storyline…it was all so well written. Funny that this is the author’s debut book in fiction, because it seems like she has been writing fiction forever. Fox definitely knows how to bring a reader in and hook’em.
I just loved June in the story. She is a strong woman trying to get over a divorce and the fall out of her book’s inspiration being identified. But she also has her weak moments and it was those moments that made her real to me. Sometimes books have such strong leading ladies that they come off fake and unrelatable. I did like Nic but I wasn’t totally gaga over him at times. I hated that he took advantage of certain situations and of June. He may not have tried coming off that way…but it was obvious it was happening.
Take Me for Longing is a quick read that will draw you in and leave you wanting more.
Lovely. That's the word that comes to mind. Take Me for Longing is a lovely story about two people whose lives follow divergent lines, but manage to intersect once. That brief contact sets their lives along lines so discordant it seems they'll never find their way back to each other. Nic is a nice guy, maybe too nice. Grounded in the world of Bluegrass music, he's thrown off kilter by things he can't, or won't, talk about. On his own now, he's struggling to put him mistakes behind him and find a new path in life – separate from all he's ever known. June should be basking in the glow of success. Her bestselling novel, based on an encounter with a Bluegrass musician years ago, changed her life, but not necessarily in a good way. Still reeling from her divorce, its taken months for June to find her words again. When the man she's tried unsuccessfully to forget shows up on her stretch of California beach, all the feelings she tried to exorcise by writing about them sweep back in. This is a charming, tender, and yes, lovely story about the power and endurance of love. There's a lot of denial going on, but in the end, these two find the courage to face what they've known since that brief encounter years ago – they belong together. Take Me for Longing is a well-crafted story. I liked these characters, and even though I don't know a thing about Bluegrass music, I was drawn into Nic's world through his words and actions. Take it from someone with a tin ear - you don't have to be a Bluegrass fan, or even a music fan to enjoy this book.
This was a quick fun read, full of love, laughter and some good ol’ bluegrass. I’ve never read a bluegrass romance before and I have to say it was pretty refreshing to have something a little new. Most people aren’t exposed to bluegrass music but I can honestly say I have been. My great grandma and my grandfather listened to it sometimes when I was a kid, so it’s kinda cool to be able to picture it. I liked the story line and the characters were very entertaining but there were a couple of things that really bothered me about this book. Nic was a major jerk first of all, he didn’t let up one bit on June pretty much through the whole book and it really wasn’t all her fault. His son even thought that. And June, my goodness, does she like to be walked all over and talked down to because she just kept coming right back for more. Maybe it’s just me but that bit of their relationship could have been toned down a bit. The love scenes were ok, not spectacular but good. And I very much enjoyed June and Nic when they were with other people, especially at Junes friend cafe. I guess I just can’t get past the way Nic acted towards her and June just taking it, so that’s why I gave this book 3 Moons and not 4. Still, it was worth reading and I look forward to the next story.
This was a lovely story of Nic, a Bluegrass Country Music Heir Apparent to his dad, and June, a bluegrass fan and a writer who turned her crush on him into a bestselling novel.
The story itself is a good one, with lots of lovely conflict both caused by June and outside of June entirely. And I totally heart Jackson and Emily.
However - for me, and maybe it's just me, I had a hard time following the whole timeline of the story. When June's secret gets blurted out on a Bluegrass Festival stage - that her bestselling book is about Nic, the "Good Boy" of the Taylor family, (causing a chain of events that propel the rest of the novel), that is apparently a year prior to when the real action of the book begins. Then there are some flashbacks to ten years earlier, when Nic and Jane first meet. So, yeah. The writing wasn't always clear for me in regards to the timeline.
Because I got distracted about the timing of events, the book lost some of its magic for me and I really regret that. But I DID finish the novel in one sitting! I believe Ms. Fox is a talented writer and I look forward to her future novels.

I've read several romance novels lately, and I have to say that this was one of my favorites. I loved the fact that the story was short and sweet. It followed the "formula" typical of romance novels, but it was more of a midday snack instead of an all-day meal. The characters were very interesting and likable, and I appreciated that I didn't have to fight through a lot of text in order to find out what would happen to our love interests. If you're looking for a pleasant, quick read, this is absolutely the story for you!
Thank you, Felice and Goodreads for allowing me the opportunity to read this book!
A novella that revolves around the world of bluegrass music. The main character, June, begins the tale by alienating the one person she is madly in love with. The ensuing events unfold with some light-hearted banter as the two meet and try to reconcile even though the developing events seem to be tearing them apart. A fun read that will allow you to dream about living a comfortable lifestyle on the California coast. All's well that ends well, or does it? I received this book for free on goodreads.com.
Felice Fox has single-handedly converted me into a fan of novellas. Even though TAKE ME FOR THE LONGING is only 100 pages, it's extremely satisfying. Steamy love scenes. A captivating story. Relatable characters. And, I very much enjoyed the bluegrass music angle. (Musicians with southern twangs are hot!)
