David doesn't know his own strength and who can blame him when six youths flaunt their genitalia at his wife. Later when a lone figure lies on the pavement bleeding heavily, David prays for the youth to wake up.
Craig Douglas was born in Ely on a rainy, May morning in 1972, after a traumatic bus ride to the hospital. Since his conception he’s been what has been termed as a Pad’s Brat and travelled to Germany a couple of times to savour the taste of German Bier. He began writing at 14 when he wrote 2 page periodicals on the intrepid adventures of Conan the Stamp Collector. Somewhat disillusioned with village life he joined the British Army in 1990 and began a tumultuous, rather haphazard journey through Army life. Accruing memories and experiences along the way have helped him form the basis of many a short story. He has served in Northern Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Iraq, Cyprus and Afghanistan.
He currently lives in Rugby with his wife and two children.
Dave Cresswell is old school. A brawler who knows his place and his standing within his social circles. Woe betide anyone who messes with him. Yes, of course, someone eventually does but is Dave in as much trouble as he thinks?
Craig Douglas once more impresses me with this well written character piece. A very strong voice from the outset Douglas has really gotten into the mind of his character which adds to the story greatly. A cracking short read.
If you like your short stories sparse, taut and well-written, Craig Douglas’s ‘Opportunity Knocks’ is for you. Douglas doesn’t waste a word in this ‘David Cresswell Adventure’ and the story is great because of it.
David Cresswell is a local rogue who’s well-known to the police. He doesn’t like being messed with and, despite certain conditions imposed on him, David won’t shy away from making an impression.
Set in Wearside, this Brit Grit piece is a very accurate portrayal of the grimy side of modern life. If offended by bad language, stay away. If you’re not, get your copy now!
