Jiggy McCue #4

Maggot Pie

Rate this book
Will Jiggy's failure to pee at the right time mean he is forever doomed? There is a tradition in Jiggy's hometown—the night before a boy starts school he goes to the Piddle Pool near the old quarry and pees in the pool for good luck. But when Jiggy went, he couldn't go, and he's been unlucky ever since. Now Jiggy wants to change his luck. One night, while he is mid-piddle, a genie rises out of the water. Will the genie bring Jiggy good luck, or is Jiggy's life about to get even worse?

I love the Jiggy Mccue books and still read them despite being at the grand old age of 24. I enjoyed this book but didn't find it to be as 'snort out loud' hilarious as many of the other Mccue adventures. My favourite remains The Poltergoose, which never fails to crack me up.

When Jiggy was 5 he was supposed to pee in the Piddle Pool the night before his first day of school for good luck, but he couldn’t. He thinks this is reason for his bad luck. Over the years Jiggy has peed in the Piddle Pool in the hope that it will change his luck. Now the Piddle Pool is going to be covered over and made into a car park so Jiggy tries one last time to change his luck.... and releases a genie named JR who is a really mean genie. JR doesn’t help Jiggy get good luck, in fact he only makes it worse....

I've never had a book make me feel sick before which was an experience, pulling worms until they snap and cutting maggots in half just made me feel nauseous but it made my mind go a little bit crazy.

MY FAVOURITE PART:

The best bit of this book was my mum’s reaction to Jiggy eating Maggot Pie. Thank you JR!!!

It was enjoyable as kid. Not sure if I would read this as an adult though.

At the age of 25 I still enjoyed reading this and cringed at some of the happenings. A few bits did make me laugh out loud.
