Life’s a gamble on the risky Riviera!

Lottie Sprigg and her employer arrive in glitzy Monaco where Lottie finds a mysterious note which threatens murder. Before she can act on it, a body is found in a private room at the Monte Carlo Casino.

Who wrote the note? Lottie takes a gamble on discovering their identity. But as she and her dog Rosie navigate a web of lies, new dangers emerge.

While Lottie Sprigg is solving mysteries with her beloved corgi, Rosie, I like curling up by the fire with a good book and a mug of hot chocolate. I love reading mysteries as much as I enjoy writing them, nothing beats the puzzle of a whodunnit! I hope you decide to join Lottie on her adventures to Venice, Milan, Paris and many more!

Well, who'd have told? It looks like maybe Mrs Moore may still manage to get her prince *laughs*

Now in Monaco, the trio is enjoying the glamorous city, with its magnificent views and its mix of rich tourists, ex-pats, gamblers and outlaws.

Of course, soon enough there is a murder and Lottie is, obviously, intrigued. She and Rosie set to get more information about the victim and, again, Rosie's superpowers come in handy. Nobody can resist her *laughs*

This series is a delight. Funny, with lovely characters and a good mystery, is the perfect read for a tranquil afternoon with a nice, warm cuppa :D

Disappointing.

An atrocious finale, rushed and feeble, to a quite lame story, for a series that has been bearable up to this book. The only great element is Rosie, the dog.

Not to be missed 4th entry!

Murder in Monaco by Martha Bond will leave you wanting more as soon as you finish the first chapter. Bond does an exceptional job with the Lottie Sprigg mysteries; each one is better than the one before. Granted, we’re four books in and Mrs. Moore, the rich American heiress and divorcée is still chasing Prince Manfred of Bavaria, a most eligible bachelor, to another international destination. But, with each book Mrs. Moore seems to be making real progress in their relationship; at times with hilarious results. I thought her encounter with the camel in Murder in Cairo was funny, but this book has even better Mrs. Moore moments. 19 year-old Lottie, hired ladies companion to Mrs. Moore, and the natural sleuth of the trio (I’m including Rosie, Lottie’s ever faithful corgi companion) is still seeing the details and gathering information the local police always seem to miss or discard. This makes Lottie seem realistic and easy to identify with as a result. All-in-all this was an exceptional installment because I found the pacing and plot to be interesting. There were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing without feeling exhausted. There were also enough red herrings to make it difficult to guess the killer…or killers…without leaving me feeling overwhelmed. I can’t wait to see where Prince Manfred heads next. Wherever it is, Mrs. Moore is sure to follow…and so am I! I’d like to thank #MarthaBond for providing me with an advanced reader copy (ARC) of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Same Story, Different Location

I've read several of the Lottie Sprigg books now. They are VERY light reading, and quite formulaic, often dotted with comma splices in the characters' spoken words. In each story, young Lottie solves a murder in a different far-flung location, with the help of some dashing young man who, almost inexplicably, always speaks English. (Whyever can't she solve a murder with the assistance of some intelligent, capable young woman?) The characters are pretty two-dimensional, as well. All that being said, I somehow still manage to enjoy the stories slightly, if only for the exotic locales. Honestly, re-reading my own review, I can't say why I continue reading these books. Better than boredom, perhaps?

"Murder in Monaco" is the next book in the Lottie Sprigg 1920s cozy mystery series. This time, Lottie and her employer, the middle-aged rich American Mrs Roberta Moore, travel to the tiny, dense country of Monaco on the Riviera in pursuit of Mrs Moore's prince. Adventures await in the casino, on the twisting mountain roads and out on the sea.

Lottie's companion dog Rosie plays an important role in helping Lottie approach other guests, casino workers and the police. The plot is tightly wound around a finite set of suspects, each having their own mysterious background and hidden motivation which may or may not be relevant to the murder.

I highly recommend this series each of which is an enjoyable read with an intriguing mystery

A quick and easy if not memorable read. This is the first of this author’s work I have read. I figured out who the murderer was quite quickly, but I can’t tell you how the story got around to revealing the murderer.
I did read to the end, however, and I don’t do that with books I find particularly poorly written, so although formulaic there were a couple interesting characters.
The major characters are somewhat flat owing to a lack of development about their desires and thoughts.
I most likely won’t pick up another book by this author, although with slightly more character development, the books could become more compelling.

Lottie is caught up in yet another mystery, this time in Monaco with her employer Mrs Moore, when she finds a jacket in the park near her hotel which leads to a murder victim. There are lots of possible suspects, the story is good, you can easily imagine yourself there and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A perfect curl up with a coffee type of book. I can't wait for the next adventure of Mrs Moore, Lottie and, of course, Rosie

Great read

Really enjoyed the 4th installment of Lottie, Mrs Moore and of course Rosie. Such a fun group, always involved it a murder or two in each country they visit following Prince Manfred of Bavaria all around the globe. It's so sweet that where ever Lottie goes she meets a nice young man. She never gets to stay in any place long enough to have a relationship with any of the young men. Maybe someday she will. Enjoy the hunt for the murderer. You'll be surprised.

This 4th in the series is in some ways more complicated than the others. Mrs. Moore seems to be getting closer to landing Prince Manfred. Lottie seems to have more time alone with Rosie on her hands. A murder has occurred at the Monte Carlo casino and neither Lottie nor Mrs. Moore was there. There are many suspects and they all cross the path of the travellers. Lottie is sharp as ever.

lottie is 4 for 4 solving murders

This is a well developed mystery with enough information for an armchair detective to solve but enough red herrings to make one question their suspicions.

This series is ok, but a bit too same-old-same-old for me. Same relationships, same story, different location. I just think there needs to be some more significant moving on with the protagonists. Though I'm guessing Lottie's boss's sights may be lowering, so maybe that's in hand.

So Many Suspects

I like this book. Best one of the series, so far. By following the Prince, she and Mrs. Moore are really meeting some interesting people. Like Fitzgerald said, "The rich are different from you and me". Entitled is what we call it today. Hence, the murders.

enjoyable

Martha Bond’s mysteries are easy reading, relaxing, and quite pleasant. I have found them to be well written and edited, with characters I’m sure we’re realistic in the 20s.

Murder in Monaco gives us history, fashion, quirky characters, and murder. Lottie and Rosie equal a perfect pair. You can't go wrong with a Martha Bond mystery. Highly Recommended.

Cute

Simple books with the same recipe but easy reading. Still enjoyable even though all the characters speak in the same voice.
