Dawn Ingram, Peter Merten and the Three Eleven team have worked for decades to prepare for November 11, 2011, even though they did not know what they were preparing for. Now that the future has arrived, they face an enemy unlike anything they have imagined, and find help from places they never dreamt of.
Join Nicholas Weaver, Stew Singleton, Avery and Ashton Hansen and Dawn Ingram as they fight the advance of the Effigee by using the alien technology against the aliens themselves. When the invaders arrive, an ancient device gives Dawn and the plumans the final edge to win the war...but at what cost?
Born in 1971, I've called the Georgian Bay and Lake Huron area home for my entire life - minus the years at university. Even so, I found books a wonderful way to travel through time and around the world.
I live in my dream house on 60 acres with an amazing view of the city skyline in one direction and the sheer cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment in the other. I was only able to start writing after checking off most other things on the to-do list of my life: marry high school sweetheart (check); get an awesome career as a high school teacher(check); have four wonderful kids (check); build my dream home (check); be a successful entrepreneur (check); breed Canada's top winning bulldog (check); get a herd of horses (check). Suddenly, I found myself inspired to begin writing after a break of more than twenty years - when I was in high school I wrote short stories which never made it past my journal binders. I still have both.
Regression was conceived in the middle of the night, one hand cradling a fussy baby while the other pecked at the keyboard - you can only surf the internet for so long! I feel it is a reflection of the many roles I have had in my life, and the observations of human nature accumulated through those roles.
The Earth is in danger from alien species, and the only one standing in their way is Dawn Ingram. Oh and her two hundred and twelve kids and grandkids. Strange things are afoot between Dawn and her progeny as they work with the Three Eleven team and Storyteller Stew Singleton to prepare for 11/11/11 and the war with the Efigee. Can they defeat these heartless creatures and save the planet or will they be harvested to build their ships? This book really shows how much Kathy Bell has learned about writing. The complexity of the book is unmarred by rambling or confusing descriptions. Kathy tells us just what we need to know with flair. The character of Dawn has matured into something other than human, but still relatable. She and her descendants share that touch of creepy that fascinated me. I loved the twists and turns as they scrambled to discover what was happening and how to set it right. The science was a blast and Dawn's struggle with her maternal instincts, her desire to save humanity, and the enormity of what she has to do is compelling. I even liked the corny use of some of the more hokey science fiction traditions. They fit and added irony rather than corniness to groan about. Kathy's ability to depict the individual feelings of the many contributors to the Pluman collective as well as their shared experiences was excellent, and the effect was really cool. Kathy's Acknowledgements said that it took her three years, and those were three years well-spent. Even if the first book makes you want to give Adya Jordan a wedgie, like it did me, I'd encourage you to push on because the second book was way better, and this one was a delight to read.
The basis was different than any other similar story. Very intriguing and surprising. The very end seemed rushed. I loved the first two books. The third was ok.
I've read these books 2x. I myself haven't read anything quite like them w/the timeline displacement narrative. I sure would like to see some follow-up novels, maybe a spin on the Nibiru returning (...unless it angers the aliens out there enough to bring punishment to our planet!), further story on humans using the plasmid from buffaloes to fix the Milniknard ship to revive Avery.... Uh, spoiler alert?
