Bio: In the 1990s, I began teaching adults to use computer software, hardware, and networking. After several years, my clients became younger and younger until I found myself tutoring high school dropouts to pass the GED. I found working with at-risk teenagers so rewarding that I changed my undergraduate major to Education. Upon graduating from the University of South Alabama with a B.S., I began teaching high school history and continue to teach history classes online. I now live in rural Missouri with my two kids, two dogs, two cats, and several chickens.
Caron Rider has given us a unique story about a young woman who been reincarnated. Silver Knight is well written, the plot and character description are excellent. This story is fast paced, full of mystery, demons, warriors and of course reincarnation. All of this combined gives us one fascinating story. I really enjoyed Caron Rider writing and cannot wait to read book 2 in this series.
Silver Knight is about a young woman named Diana who experiences nightmares of herself being killed many times over; each dream leaves her with more details around what has happened. We are introduced to Alexander in her dreams where he is the one killing her, conflicted Diana can tell she is in love with this man and senses at times he loves her just as much.
One evening Diana and her friends are watching a YouTube video and she recognizes the man in the video from her dreams. In this video he is calling all the warriors to come together. Everything starts to click for Diana at this point and she realizes her dreams may have some truth to them. Contacting the man in the video Diana and her friends head off to Rome making a pit stop in New York. Here we are introduced to other characters and this story just gets more fascinating. We learn Diana is a warrior, and Alexander a demon. Present time when Alex and Diana meet up he does inform Diana that he doesn’t’ want to kill her anymore…..All I can say you must go read and see for yourself.
The relationship between Diana and Alexander is fantastic and Caron Rider has done a terrific job writing this unique story around reincarnation, demons and warriors. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series to see where it leads us to next.
I would recommend to any of my friends who enjoy reading YA Paranormal novels. I will definitely be reading Silver Demon (book 2) when it’s released later in the year.
Silver Knight is a fast-paced historical adventure that will take you on a journey through time in an intelligent, never boring way. Relatable and endearing, Diana is the teenage, demon-slaying heroine who rarely sees her thirtieth birthday, and Alexander is her love interest who is the instrument of her death each time. Tall, dark, and handsome, he runs the gamut from utterly merciless to devastatingly sweet, always with just enough sadness in his personality to elicit sympathy. Written for the YA market, the author cleverly sneaks in a history lesson with each jaunt through time, from ancient Greece, to Augustan Rome, to the Titanic. Rider sets the scene for each stop on her characters' trips through history with enough detail to make it believable while shrewdly witholding just enough information to make the reader want more. And you will want more!
rating 3.5 Silver Knight by Caron Rider, is the first novel in what looks to be an exciting young-adult series, that blends paranormal and mystery. It delves into reincarnation, demons and warriors. The story started out rough for me but, ended up being an engaging tale. It had elements of mythology, religion, history and romance.
The protagonist seventeen year old Diana, suffers from nightmares. In them she experiences her death over and over. They are all violent deaths, and each gives her a little more detail. She also dreams of a man whom she loves, but who repeatedly murders her. His name is Alexander. He is handsome and she can tell he feels betrayed. Despite killing her she senses that he loves her. The beginning of the book dealt with school, friends and a book club. I got nervous that this wasn’t something I was going to enjoy, but all of that quickly changed. While her parents are away on a cruise her BFF’s come over to stay, and when they watch a YouTube video, she recognizes the man in the video. He is asking for warriors of the light to contact him. Suddenly Diana realizes that her dreams are real. She contacts this man, and the next thing you know, she and her friends are booking tickets to Rome. Diana feels the need to go to New York first. The feeling is strong and she chooses to follow it. The tale that unfolds is captivating, as we are swept from NY to the Catacombs of Rome. Along the way we time travel though history as Diana and the warriors we meet remember past experiences.
I connected the characters and the relationship between Alexander and Diana was fascinating. Diana is very clever in this life and in her past lives. I enjoyed the caretaker of the home in New York, and found all the people who ended up there to be unique. I loved reading about Helen’s past lives. I have questions regarding the Bishop in Rome. There are many things I am excited to learn more about in the next novel. I am anxious to see what develops with Alexander and Diana. Their tale felt genuine and I want things to work out for them.
The world-building was fascinating. Rider weaves us back and forth from past to present carefully blending historical events into the warriors time-lines. Some of them made me laugh as I imagined these events involving warriors. Rider was clever in her re-tellings of these events. I felt some of the conversations; situations etc were slightly awkward, but not enough to dissuade me from continuing the series. A lot of the novel dealt with world-building, the warriors and reincarnation. I am excited to see where Rider takes this. The plot possibilities are endless.
Title: Silver Knight Author: Caron Rider Number of Pages: 278 Date of Release: February 24th, 2012 Summary From Goodreads:

Review: I have to say the intensity of this novel blew me away. I really liked the exploration of all of Diana’s past lives and her realization that she isn’t dreaming. The past life concept reminded me of Kristen Millers The Eternal Ones and if you crossed that with Buffy you would get something exactly like Silver Knight. Caron Rider is an exciting new voice to hit the YA scene and I can’t wait to see where The Silver Knight series takes me!
Diana is instantly a relatable character. She is head of her schools book club and basically your average teenager just trying to make it through high school. Her maturity makes the novel read like an older YA, which is fine because a lot of teens are looking for a mature character they can relate too. I know I constantly am. The whole past life/romance/predator and prey/ light vs evil relationship between Alexander and Diana was pretty freaking intense and the past life scenes had me teary at times. I can’t believe I am falling for the guy who murdered the MC in her past lives. I just don’t even know which is why I need the next book!!
I only had a couple minor issues with the novel. I wish it was all one POV. I really liked Diana’s voice and while many other characters were explored it got a tad confusing. Which brings me to the past lives flashbacks. I loved them, but at times they were a bit confusing and I had to go back and re read to make sure I had it all straight. I loved them though, I just want them more explored and expanded, but I am pretty sure that will happen in the rest of the series. The love story has the potential to be one for the history books. I truly appreciated all of the unique characteristics this novel included and how it just didn’t blend into the YA scene; it stands on its own and begs to be read. If you’re looking for an intriguing new read go on and pick up Silver Knight!!!
On the surface, Silver Knight seems like an epic book involving demons, warriors, and reincarnation, full of action! Don't get me wrong - at some points of the story, there was a lot of action and warrior fights, so this story does have its share of action, just not in the way I expected.
My main problem with the story was the format in which it was written. Usually in a chapter, there would be a short scene in the present, followed by a flashback of a reincarnation in the past, and another short scene in the present. Especially at the beginning, I couldn't tell which time period was which, making me a little confused. Moreover, I found that most of the time spent fighting demons was actually in these flashbacks, not in the present. Maybe I was expecting more in-the-present action? I'm not too sure. This is mainly because I'm pretty accustomed to have a giant, dramatic climax, which Silver Knight may have during the last scene on the Titanic or the catacombs, which in my opinion, wasn't dramatic enough (well, at least in my tastes.)
However, I found the blending of cultures and old tales to be very well written. How often do you have a book combining the tales of the Titanic, Helen of Troy, The Minotaur, and Christian stories, among many other 1900's stories? Only once - during Silver Knight. Of course, this goes along with my previously mentioned problem - a large portion of the book is spent explaining the past.
Nevertheless, I did enjoy the book. It was full of action and had a great concept! It has a lot of potential (and a cliffhanger asdfsdafjas;lfj), leaving me wanting for more. If you're accustomed or a big fan of dramatic climaxes and in-the-present action, this book probably wouldn't be for you. However, if you're just looking for the out of the ordinary YA UF read, Silver Knight is for you (:
Silver Knight is a fast-paced and amazing romp through a set of past lives. It's the type of book that draws you in, and even though a few different genres are mixed it works well! Caron Rider has managed to mix together modern high school life, with a girl who has shades of her past lives peppered in. What you'll find in this book is nothing short of fantastic! I honestly read through each page breathlessly to the end.
Our first-person narrator Diana is quite a girl. She is very much an old soul, which I totally related to her. What's nice about that is the book never really has too deep of a sense of a teenager persona. Of course Diana is actually one, but the breadth of what she has experienced really comes through in her character. The best part about her is that she is so vivid in her descriptions of things. When Diana is in a room she doesn't just see it, she experiences it. Caron Rider did an excellent job with this, and it is so easy to simply place yourself in the story. It makes it very immersive.
As I mentioned above, the story line is quick moving and well-written. I liked how well the two parts blended together. The one thing that made me a little sad was the lack of depth in certain aspects of the story. What I mean is, there are a lot of times where something is mentioned, or touched on, but never fully explored. My hope is that, because this is a series, there is a lot more to come! I will give the story this much, because of what was missing I'm eager to dive into the next installment! I want my questions answered.
I'd recommend this book to older young adult readers, mostly because of Diana's overall voice. She is a very pleasant narrator to follow (and she loves books so that is a huge plus!) but sometimes her lack of teen vibe makes her feel a little older. I for one loved it, but it might turn some younger readers off. Overall, I thought that Silver Knight was extremely well done! Kudos to Caron Rider. I'm in for the long haul!
Silver Knight is pact-full of romance, history, myths, demons and a strong heroine. What more could anyone ask for in a book?
First of all, the characters' emotions in this book make the reader feel like they are really there going on the journey with the person. When Diana is having visions of her past lives, her fear, anticipation and sometimes even joy are just palpable. I felt myself smiling and frowning and even on the verge of tears. Then there's Alex who is emotionally torn. He doesn't know what to do, and I felt like he doesn't know what his purpose on Earth is anymore.
There was one point in the book about halfway through where the pieces and mysteries just started to add up in my brain and I had this whole elaborate theory about what was going to happen. But then the end turned out to be a complete surprise. There are still some thoughts running though my head about what might happen in the next book that weren't answered in Silver Knight, but that always has to happen if there is a sequel.
There are some books where the grammar and punctuation is not appealing and even where sentences just cut off halfway through. However, Caron Rider's writing style and use of grammar is phenomenal. It was one of those books which I couldn't put down. The use of research for the history in this book was evident. It just added a whole new perspective to myths and legends.
"Silver Knight takes you on an adventure where demons and heroes from the past blend with history, action, and just a hint of romance." This statement could not be more true. This story captures the reader's attention like a roller coaster; right from the start and does not let go until the very last page.
I throughly enjoyed Silver Knight! I've been in a reading slump for a while now, and this book is helping pull me out of it, finally. It held my attention and was easy to read, and I flew through it in two days!
Silver Knight caught my attention because its hard to come across completely original plots in books anymore, and this book had one. After watching a YouTube video with her friends, Diana realizes that the nightmares about demons she's been having her entire life are actually memories from her past lives, and that she is a warrior of the Light whose job it is to fight these demons. Even if it means she loses her life in the process. The book is gripping from the very beginning, and stays fast-paced and interesting.
Diana is immediately likable as a main character. She is easy to relate to from page one, and she's a book lover too which only helps. Though I wish there had been more character development in the secondary characters, one thing I enjoyed about this book was its shifts in POV. I wasn't quite ready for the first one, but as soon as I was prepared for the others they became some of my favorite parts. Through the other characters telling their stories, we as readers get to here about their past lives as warriors as well.
Also, I'm always a fan of a story that has some romance thrown in, and this book was no disappointment! I'm so excited to see where the relationship between Alex Black (a demon) and Diana goes in the next book. I actually wish there had been more of it in this one.
Overall, though there were of course some things here or there that could have been changed or done differently (I feel like, no matter what the book, there always are), I completely enjoyed this book and am eagerly awaiting the sequel!
It’s not often you read about demon slayers, and being reincarnated over and over. But what made Diana special was that she is able to dream about her past lives. That may not be the best thing. She only dreams about her deaths. Never about the good things, just her deaths and how Alexander has killed her over and over again.
At the beginning I was unsure if I was going to like this book but these types of books always surprise me. And once I started it I couldn’t stop, this book was very fast paced and it was almost scary to read about all her deaths, and to be able to imagine all that happening to one person is just unbearable. I found myself cringing when she got hurt or laughing when she was laughing. And I found myself rooting for Alexander and Diana to get together.
The only problem with those two is that Alexander is a demon and Diana is a demon hunter, you would think that Diana would slay him and get over him when she had the chance, but somehow he convinces her differently. I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say you won’t be upset with the outcome.
I don’t believe in reincarnation but the whole plot was different and creative and I loved every second of it. I loved how she incorporated history in this book, putting her own creative twist on things. I was very surprised at the biblical reference and loved that she incorporated that into her book.
And while we didn’t get a whole lot of Alexander, only bits and pieces I know that he will show more often in the next book “Silver Demon” which hopefully will come out sometime later this year.
I highly recommend reading this book, you won’t be disappointed!
A convincing fast-paced breathless voice characterizes the first narrator of Caron Rider’s paranormal, modern, historical, genre-bending young adult novel, Silver Knight. And all those genres really work! There are hints of deep dark mystery in the prologue, haunting nightmares and daytime high school book clubs. Computer dating and viral videos maintain just the right level of believability. Then Diana recognizes the you-tube priest from her dreams, and the reader’s taken into first-person visions of history from David and Goliath to the origins of Coca Cola and much more.
Diana looks around rooms and really sees and experiences them, making this a pleasing teen novel that engages all the senses, including common sense. A reading list, including Twilight and the Hobbit, heralds very natural discussion of Lee Child, Terry Brooks and more, and school breaks up for summer. Then the world breaks up too.
Diana’s dreams (and the priest) turn out to be real, as do demons, past lives and curious myths. Somehow the urge to say “Don’t do it” is stayed by fast-paced action, curious certainty and enjoyably convenient timing. Neat story-telling pulls the reader along, despite occasionally awkward sentences, till Hindu reincarnation leads to Vatican catacomb. A well-drawn mythology is built over well-researched history, and the whole is a truly enjoyable tale with hints of various faiths united behind those mystical demon-killing powers. I’m looking forward to more of this series.
Disclosure: I received a free ecopy of this novel from Lightning Book Promotions is exchange for an honest review.

Review: When I read the little summary in the beginning, I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical. I like Young Adult books yet I am very picky about them. I believe in reincarnation but I have not liked any books about the topic. Yet, Silver Knight changed my mind. I immediately liked Diana since she loves to read. I never imagined the book to be about demon slayers being reincarnated every cycle. This book is very original.
The relationship between Diana and Alex is very perplexing. I mean, he kills her in every life but still loves her. That is a very dangerous relationship.
Overall, I liked the book. I would buy this book and the sequel since I like physical books better than e-readers.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Silver Knight is an interesting, creative, and OMG read that I’ve sat here staring at the cursor over because I’m just not sure how to review it without giving away all the best parts. LOL, issues, right.
I will say the romance has some serious issues, like the fact that the demon, Alex, keeps killing our heroine, Diana, throughout time, yet loves her. Remind me not to go shopping for lovers with him around. Murder is just not my idea of an ‘I love you’. I like how my focus Caron gives to the other warriors, so we can get to know them better. I hate when characters are presented but then glossed over. Caron didn’t do that! You get to connect with each and learn about them, her, Alex, and their past.
I liked that it has well-drawn mythology and is built over well-researched history. The Biblical references messed with me a little, I just don’t get into all that, but it was done in a tasteful and logical way. I also wish we’d gotten a little more about Alex. He’s interesting and I want to see more of him and Diana! Maybe in the next book, Silver Demon, which I can’t wait to read.
My rating? 4 1/2 drops. A highly recommended read!
Honestly? I didn't like it. It was so frustratingly confusing I had to keep going back and forth to get the gist of it all. It started off brilliantly, Diana gets these brutal nightmares of her death and Past lives you can tell it has a good plot and it was nothing i have ever read before. But then it keeps jumping back to the past and changes from her POV to others without warning. I had to keep checking whether it was still her POV and whether I was reading the past or current events. One minuet I was reading about Diana number 1 the next she was dead and I was reading Jarretts POV. I just wanted to delete it and forget about it but I read until the end to ensure I gave an honest rating/review. Thanks for this free copy Caron but this book just wasn't for me.
Caron Rider's book was great. It was well written with a good story line. She took this concept of hers of a girl who fights demons and weaves it in such a way involving historical characters and places that just leave you gasping and wanting to know more. Many different time periods of history are touched on because of the use of reincarnation. It really kept me engaged and wanting to read more, the entire time. The book ended with such a cliffhanger that I will want to read the next book. I want to know what will happen between Alex and Diana now that they have found each other again. If you like mythology and history, you should check this story out. It is a very interesting read. This book has the adventure of killing demons, a little mystery, and a touch of romance. Loved it!
Diana is just a high school senior who has just been told she will be the leader of the school's book club and she is excited about this position. Her nights are interrupted by dreams of a past life. She begins to wonder if she's reading too much. Then she sees a YouTube video of this bishop in the Vatican who she saved in another life and she knows she has to go to Rome to save him. This begins a journey that is crazy and fun. I can't say much more or I'll give away most of the book. What I can tell you is that if you enjoy adventure with a mix of paranormal then this book is for you!
Diana is having nightmares of herself being killed in various horrible ways and can't sleep. Each dream takes her back in time to a life she lived before and she sees how she died in that life. It is very interesting to see how the author had woven in history into the novel to give it a different spin. I love reading these dream flashbacks so we learned more of the history between Diana and Alexander. A story of reincarnation and love. Anger and Betrayal. A great first book in what I hope turns into a series.
A breathtaking read that kept me on the edge of my seat!!! Caron Rider is a fabulously gifted writer and I am so glad I stumbled onto this little novel. It was a quick easy read that was both exciting and edgy. There was a little of everything...even minotaurs and Goliath! It was clever and fun...a highly recommended read. Great for a sunny day on the beach! can't wait to read it again, I already read it twice! Guess it's time to pressure Caron for a sequel ;-)
I just finished the book and let me say it was awesome! I'm not a pro in giving reviews, so all I can say is that I enjoyed it. it has history mixed with reincarnation, that's my type of must read book for me. I don't give it 5 stars because I was confused most of the time with the different points of view and times. *scratches head* but overall it made me CRAVE to read the next book. :D great job Caron :) I loved the main characters. I hope the next book comes out SOON.
Interesting premise and I liked the jumping between eras/lives, but the switch to different characters POV in the latter part of the book was largely unnecessary and led to confusion. Also, sections of choppy writing pulled me out of the story...something that could've been avoided with thorough editing.
A captivating, easy read that kept me very interested throughout the book. In fact, could not put it down, which normally never happens. Loved the story line and the phases into the past and present, which made for a fascinating aspect of the book. I loved the main characters, Diana and Alex. I would recommend the book for anyone to read and can't wait for next book in series!
Silver Knight is my first ARC copy, and I'm really happy that I've been given the chance to read and review it by Shriya, because I liked the book!
A Struggle Against Evil
Love Through the Ages
A Destiny to Fulfil
When seventeen-year-old Diana recognizes an elderly priest in a video on Youtube, she realizes that reincarnation is real and that she's been alive before! Every night in her dreams, she views her past lives learning that it's kill or be killed.
Now a bishop at Vatican whom she saved in another life calls on her once more. She is needed to help defeat an infestation of demons living in the Catacombs of Rome. Warned by their foul smell and armed by her dreams, Diana is a warrior who must battle the Dark in order for the Light to prevail.
But when she arrives in Rome, she meets Alexander - the man of her dreams! Through the centuries she has loved him... betrayed him... been killed by him. Will she give him another chance or this time will she strike first?
The story of this book begins in a perfectly ordinary way. Diana, the protagonist of the story, has been elected as the book club president, which consists of very few students including her best friends, Sam and Maggie. She seems to be perfectly normal, just with one problem - she suffers from nightmares and they are always about her dying.
She doesn't understand what these dreams mean till she sees a video on Youtube about a priest and she realises that she recognises him from one of her dreams and decides to contact him... and she is surprised when the priest, i.e. Bishop Paul Soratino, tells her that there is an infestation of demons in the Catacombs of Rome.
After talking to the bishop, Diana starts to understand the meaning of the dreams she has been having since childhood. She understands that she's the warrior of the Light who has been destined to defeat the Dark, the demons of the Dark who live on other people's soul, who come in all types of shapes and sizes and who can only be defeated using weapons made out of silver. Diana has died many a time in history while killing a demon or is killed by her nemesis, Alexander. Alexander is the one whom she loved, and in many lives had even been married to him. But he is a demon and he believes that Diana betrayed him and hence he, instead of sucking her soul and freeing her, keeps killing her, sometimes so brutally that she keeps getting reincarnated.
Diana decides to go to Rome to deal with the demons there and she's accompanied by fellow warriors, Jarret, Helen, David, Solomon and also Sam and Maggie. But soon, in Rome, She meets Alex Black, who's no one else but Alexander. However, this time, she is in for a surprise. Alex doesn't wish to kill her now because of something that happened in one of Diana's previous life on the Titanic. Unfortunately, Diana can't remember the details, except the fact she died on the Titanic. What must have happened to change Alex's heart?
Personally, this was that type of story which I've never read before. I've read about magicians, witchcraft, monsters, vampires, and everything else - but never in such a combination. Throw in reincarnation and you have the equivalent of a delicious dessert in your hands. All the warriors I mentioned above have been related to the history we know (though vaguely), like, Alexander was once Alexander the Great, Helen was Helen of Troy, and so on!
But though that was good, what I didn't like was the jumping of the story from present to past in a single chapter, which often broke my rhythm and would confuse the average reader. As another reader on Amazon pointed out, each chapter has AT LEAST three dreams/flashbacks. Had different chapters been used for different periods of time, it would have been easier to keep track. Despite that, I can't wait for the sequel! Write faster, Miss Rider!

When I was asked to read Silver Knight my first thought was reincarnation eek. I've read a couple really great reincarnation books through the years but the majority have left me horribly confused or just fell flat of being anything spectacular. With some hesitation I decided to give Silver Knight a shot. Here are my thoughts:
Characters- Diana is a very likable character in that she is strong, independent and fierce but I also found her a bit naive and certainly blinded by love. Speaking of which we have Alexander Diana's on again, off again, demon lover. I enjoyed him but he was also a really big bastard to Diana and I just had a hard time believing someone would still want to be with them after all that. I mean he tried to kill her that's not usually something you forgive no matter how swoon worthy they might be. I also really enjoyed some of the bit characters Diana encounters in her past lives and hope to see a few of them pop up again even in flashbacks.
World Building- I loved being able to journey into the past with Diana. Caron Rider really put in some nice details from each time period and I found that to be quite a bonus. That being said while all the flashbacks were great and richly detailed I felt the present felt a bit flat in comparison. Wasn't bad, just not nearly as exciting to read about as those flashback scenes.
The Warriors Of Light- This is the group Diana belongs to. They keep the balance between Light and Darkness each member being reincarnated over and over to do so. Since the members are all intertwined I understand why we see so many different points of view but it just could of been packaged a bit better. At times I was left confused as to who we were following and in a way all the flashbacks and flashforwards slowed the pacing down as I had to keep going back and rereading paragraphs before moving on.
Flaws- The Author paints Alexander into this corner as being this hard-ass character that it really becomes hard to root for him by the end of the book. I also had to laugh at Diana's independence. Reincarnated Warrior or not she's still 17 and last I checked that meant Parents should be a bit more involved in things. I just didn't find it believable how little they seemed to care about her whereabouts. I also could of used less flashback scenes. The flashbacks felt a bit overwhelming at times and it brought the enjoyability of the book down a notch for me.
Final Thoughts Overall Silver Knight was an action packed read with richly detailed narratives and enjoyable if at times a bit confusing character development. If you like History then I definitely think you will be able to appreciate Silver Knight as it has some very interesting perspectives on past events. `In the end I will be giving Silver Knight ★★★.
*I was given a copy of this book from the Author to review. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for them.
Silver Knight has a very interesting and original plot line. I read the blurb on Goodreads and my first thought was, I've never heard of anything like this before!
The voice of the novel is a teenage girl and it's writing very well, in the sense that you can believe that she is a teenager. Diana, the main character is your average teenage girl in a YA book. Though I often felt that she was a lot younger than the author tried to portray her as. She's not super sophisticated and her thoughts aren't censored. Within the first few pages, I noticed a few awkwardly written sentences, but it was still pretty interesting.
There was a lot of cheesiness to the book. It's obvious that it's a debut novel - not in a bad way. The writing is just amateur. Within the book, some of the phrasing is strange and I don't think it always meant what the author thought it did. There are a few grammatical issues, too. There are also some parts that are completely unbelievable, but I can understand some of it seeing as it's a paranormal novel.
To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the cover. It's very common for self-published titles to have plain, or less exotic covers. Silver Knight is no exception to that and I'm one of those people who judges a book by my opinion of the cover. I probably wouldn't have picked this up if I wasn't offered to join a blog tour and get a free copy. But I'm glad I got the chance to read it!
I really love the paranormal aspects of this story. You often read about ghosts in young adult fiction, but demons are not usually a broached topic. I have read very few. Ms. Rider wrote them with interesting backstories that really kept me reading. It's neat how she incorporated famous persons in history within the story and made the events that made them famous as past lives for the Warriors that meet up with Diana.
I loved that fact that Diana loved to read. She's very intelligent and I enjoyed reading from her perspective. Though I enjoyed reading about her in her past lives, rather than the present. The story line for those were much more interesting. I loved reading about her lives. While the present was not very captivating, because it reminded me too much of my own boring life.
The first "transition" to the past confused me. It was pretty abrupt, but after reading the first one, they didn't bother me because I knew what to expect. I did not like the point-of-view changes. I rarely read books that have switches in point-of-view. It annoys me. I struggled with the parts that had switched from Diana's perspective.
The end left me wanting more! I will continue to read and see where this series leads. I would love to see more Alex and Diana!
I received a free e-copy of this novel for a blog tour in exchange for my honest review.
This story has some really interesting takes on historical myth and fact. Diana is a 17 year old girl who is excited about becoming a senior in high school until she sees a YouTube video of priest that she somehow recognizes. She even knows him by name and understands that the video is asking for the Warriors of Light to come to Rome, of which she is one of those warriors. Up until this point, she has been plagued by dreams of demons and her multiple deaths over thousands of years. These deaths are the result of fighting demons and the vengeance on one demon in particular, Alex. Alex has been alive through all of Diana's lifetimes and they keep encountering one another over and over. Diana doesn't know it at first, but she will soon be meeting with Alex yet again and her dreams might possibly become reality.
I will be honest, the main story is very good. It is hard to follow lot of the time though because all of the Warriors of Light involved in the plot have either dreams or flashbacks to previous lives. All Warriors of Light are reincarnated over and over in order to keep removing the demons from the world in the battle between Light and Dark. Each chapter has AT LEAST three dreams/flashbacks. Each one is more often than not from a different time period. I have read books that have had flashbacks in them that would basically bounce between a single flashback and current time over and over, but this story changes the timeline multiple times within the same chapter. It can be really frustrating at times because I personally just wanted to know what was going on right this moment for at least longer periods of time. I am not saying that it is a bad book, so please don't think that. Everything in it gives you insight into why the Warriors of Light are the way they are. It's why they have come together in the book. Their lives are all intertwined through out history. You really do need the information. I just think that it could have been organized a little better. I would have been happy with chronological instead of Pulp Fiction style. I really enjoyed reading all of the history and how Caron Rider interpreted it in order to fit into her world.
The book ended with such a cliffhanger that I will want to read the next book. I want to know what will happen between Alex and Diana now that they have found each other again. I want to know why the Warriors of Light were called to Rome into what appeared to have been a trap. If you like mythology and history, you should check this story out. It is a very interesting read.
After reading the summary, I was expecting Silver Knight to have a lot of action. I got that and so much more. Caron Rider created a world where all one girl knows is death, demons, and the one man who keeps killing her.
Diana isn't your average girl. She's a demon hunter who is continuously killed and reincarnated with the same name and purpose. Though her looks may change, she never stops fighting and always finds the same man over and over again.
There are a number of characters who we meet throughout the book that have their own chapter, but I want to focus on Diana. She doesn't sleep well because she has had nightmares most of her life. In each of these nightmares she almost always finds herself killed because of a Demon or Alexander. Even with the nightmares she somehow has the courage to fly to Rome and face more demons. I found her to be a really strong character who, I don't want to say has no fear, but has rather accepted her fate and knows that she will live once again. This knowledge is what keeps her head up with things look grim.
I really enjoyed this book for a number of reasons. First, so much history was brought into the story line. We see Diana all over the world in places like Pompeii, Babylon, Rome, and even on the Titanic. With all of her different locations, there is always one person who remains constant and I liked that I was able to take a look how their lives intertwined to the present. I loved that the ending isn't a cliffhanger, but leaves you excited for the next book. I wasn't sure what was going to happen when I got to the epilogue, but it definitely left me curious as to what will happen next.
There was only one notable thing I didn't really care for and that was how much the perspective changed. I was kind of lost at one point and started writing events down so I could follow along better. Each of the supporting characters had a chapter to themselves and I would get confused on occasion as to what time we were in and who they were talking to in the present. It wasn't overwhelming or anything like that, just a little difficult to follow.
Overall, I enjoyed reading Silver Knight and will be reading the next book, Silver Demon, when it's available. If you enjoy books with a lot of historical references, you will probably enjoy this book.
FTC Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion.
When I first read the little blurb I was one part worried and three parts in intrigued. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything about incarnation but I know it’s something that requires a deft touch to pull off without leaving out something vital to making it all work. I read the chapter sampler Caron provided and I knew immediately that I was hooked. It starts off a little slow as you learn about Diana but by the end of the first chapter I was completely engrossed in learning more about Diana’s past lives. I had so many questions and so I immediately agreed to review her book. I had to limit myself to 5 chapters a day though, just so I could make sure I got other things done around the house.
The thing I love the most about this book was it’s perfect mix of mythology, history and unique storyline, I really enjoyed all the sections that delved into the characters’ past lives. Caron even gives the side characters some air time for their past lives and I can some of them were pretty brilliant. Diana’s were both really interesting and also kind of heartbreaking, thanks to Alexander. I can’t say I’m sure how I feel about Alexander, I know I like him but his past really makes me question if it’s wise to be anywhere near him. Their relationship is fairly complex and I enjoyed it, even if I couldn’t quite pin down exactly what Diana should do. I like when books make me think about all the outcomes that could happen, especially since it happens so rarely now in fiction. The actual storyline is fairly interesting as well, which not includes reincarnation but also demons. Which that just adds to the uniqueness of the story and makes the experience even more enjoyable. The demons themselves are really cool as well, and instead of just being the stereotypical demons they actually have various forms. I really want to know why Rome has a demon infestation though, it’s kind of killing me not to know. I also can’t wait to know more about the Bishop.
Alot of this books takes on the task of world and character building so that you can clearly get a feel for what’s going on and who is involved. There were a few awkward feeling conversations here and there but it wasn’t anything that really bothered me, and it certainly didn’t stop me from devouring this book.
Given all of the thought that went into all of the past lives and the set up for this story, I can’t wait to be able to read the second one. I can tell that it’s going to be great. This is one of those unique hidden gems that you only find once in a blue moon.
Do you believe in reincarnation? I don't, but I admit it can make for an interesting story. Silver Knight was a fun present day story that took you back to the past several times for a lot of nice historic tidbits as we get a glimpse of each warrior of the lights past lives.
Diana, has lived with nightmares of herself being killed over and over in horrible ways. She never understood why she had these dreams until she recognizes a priest on YouTube that she has seen in one of her dreams. Now she is convinced that she has lived out a life more than once and that killing demons is her job. Compelled to go to New York before heading to Rome, her and her two friends meet up with a few other warriors. Each of these warriors have had some very historical backgrounds.
Alex is a demon from Diana's past, we learn from her dreams that he kills Diana over and over in some horrible ways. He is absolutely ruthless, but he is also in love with Diana. Talk about some big romantic problems. When Diana meets Alex this time he swears he doesn't want to kill her anymore, but she just is not sure he can be trusted.
Even though Diana and Alex are the main characters the other warriors have a lot to do with what is happening, and the author gives them each a chapter so we can get to know them a little bit, there is Helen, David, Sol, and Jarret. Each I am sure we will learn more about as the series grows.
This first book I can tell is the builder for what is to come and because of this at times it feels like I didn't get to know Diana and Alex like I would have liked. Alex, doesn't come into the picture till later in the book, but from the little bit of a cliffhanger ending I know he will be a big piece of the next book.
There was a few things that I didn't really like, and I can't really say what it is without giving away some fun historical tidbits, but I will say it has to do with biblical references. I don't like my bible stories messed with much, but other than that and a few times I got confused with the shifting from present to past life, I enjoyed this book.
I can't wait to read Silver Demon and find out what will happen with Diana and her friends! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes your history mixed with a bit of fantasy.
