Never Again, is everything & more that you would want in an exciting romance suspense. A story of friendship, love & second chances. It's engaging, sexy & moving. Wonderful characters. I was hooked from the first chapter & could not put it down.
Darla used vices to block out the pain from childhood traumas. Unfortunately, those vices let her to almost overdosing. After being scared straight, Darla is now doing work on herself, intending to put her life back together and make amends for all the people she wronged while she was indulging. Darla knows going home and making those amends to people she hurt is gonna be tough. It seems like a bad omen, when she draws the attention of local police officer Dale on the way back into her hometown. For Dale’s part he plans to keep a close eye on Darla since Dale knows all to well the trouble that comes along with Darla. It’s just too bad that this time Darla doesn’t seem to be the one causing the trouble but the target. Can Dale do his job of keeping Darla safe without getting to close to her? Can Darla make amends and show her home town that she is a changed woman with out falling back into old habits?
At this point I’ve decided I’m not a huge fan of this authors writing. In this book the author decided to have events happening consecutively with her previous book. This is fine for someone who has not read the previous book. However, if you have read the previous book you’ll notice that things/ timeline doesn’t seem to actually match up with what you know of the last book.
I firmly believe that the author needs to create a timeline with notes on it outside of her story file for each of her books that she uses going forward if she’s going to go mention or use stuff that happened in previous books. Some of this is stuff that could also be caught by a content editor doing a similar thing but it doesn’t seem to be happening and it bothers me and I’m sure others who have a mind for detail. For example in one book a couple gets Engaged and tells everyone that will listen and then goes on a trip to Seattle. However in the following book they go on a trip to Seattle and come back and engaged. It seems small but when stuff like that is happening all the time it tears readers like me out of the Book universe, and back into reality. This makes it more difficult to enjoy.
Without some kind of tool that the author can use to keep track of details and use to reference things that she wants to mention it makes the author appear like she is unorganized or just throwing things and see what sticks / making things up. I don’t like that. If the author can’t take the time to make sure things in her universe match up then why should I spend my money and take the time to read her book?
Some people will enjoy this book and even I was entertained, but I spent just as much time being bothered and dragged out of the story as I did happy in the story. And with so many authors out in the world this series has made me decide I don’t plan to read more of Jill’s books.
Heart racing, action packed and emotionally thrilling roller coaster adventure filled with exciting charters, witty banter, thrilling twists and undeniable passion. An edge of your seat yet heartwarming journey filled with hope, healing and love.
forgiving yourself is difficult, but not impossible
Love this story, I’m so happy Darla finally was able see how strong and special she really is. Restoration begins in the inside, you will love this story.
I absolutely loved this book about a totally flawed character that caused havoc in all the other books in the original and turned her life around. A compelling story and worth reading.
Darla goes back to her hometown of Haven, Montana to start her life anew. She is out of rehab after 2 years and is looking to move forward on a new path in her life. She knows she owes many apologies and that it won't be easy. She has a list of 7 steps that she intends to follow. The first person she sees on her way into town is Dale, a law enforcement officer who has arrested her several times. He has seen her at some pretty low points in her life. She knows she has to show him and the town that she has changed. She begins fixing up her childhood home and is surprised when Dale offers to help her. She accepts the help and he begins to realize that she really has changed. Neither of them really rushed getting to know each other again. Dale found himself feeling protective over her and stood by her when people were unkind to her. Trouble does seem to be finding Darla and he intends to stop any harm from coming to her. I will say that I think this book would have been a bit better for me if I had read any of the previous books in the series. I kind of felt at points that I was dropped into the middle of the story.
I have watched Darla through this series, and she was not a nice person. She has wronged so many people in Haven and now she has come back home after being in rehab and trying to put her life on track. The first person she sees is Dale. He is a local cop and has arrested her many times. Dale thinks that Darla looks different, but has she really changed? Darla has so much to make up for and isn't sure that anyone will believe that she has changed. There are those in town that shun her, but there are those who can see the difference and are giving her another chance. A woman assaults Darla several times and accuses her of taking her husband away. Darla doesn't even know the man. As Dale helps Darla get her life together, they become closer and when the deranged woman attacks her, Dale is going to be there to protect her. Darla is so strong and doesn't really need protection, but he is going to try. I was so happy to see Darla turn things around and get her life together, because she was a mess.
Living in a small town can be like living in a fishbowl as everyone knows your business and if not, they make it up so they have gossip to share. The more salacious the gossip the more fun it is to spread. If you ever do something wrong, they never let you forget about it. Once again this author has nailed small town life and the pitfalls as well as the good parts of how the town will rally around one of its own. Compelling characters with faults, flaws and the strength to overcome them are woven into a plot that is wrought with the realism of alcoholism and the fight to overcome the addiction as well as the town gossip. This series just keeps getting better. I thought the last book was my favorite, but this one just pole-vaulted right over the last book! Many characters from the previous books are right up front with our main characters in this one and many more introduced so I am hopeful that we will be returning to Haven, Montana again real soon!
This was a quick satisfying read. If you have read the Haven series you know a lot of the trouble Darla has caused. If you haven’t that’s ok cause the story gives you all sorts of details into her past, a past she is trying to leave behind and move forward from. This story deals with addiction, childhood trauma, recovery and redemption. Dale is one of the lucky people who got to witness Darla at her lowest and seeing the new her has him seeing her in a new light and wanting more. Sweet and sexy small town cop falls for reformed bad girl stripper with some crazy in between. What’s not to love.
A story about second chances and how hard they can be, especially if that includes dealing with addiction. Add in small town life, and the story shows just how good and bad that can be. Darla had a horrible past, but Dale sees the change in her and offers to help. Their relationship has them dealing with the good, the bad, and the ugly. The author cleverly weaves some of the other characters' stories into this one, but it can also be read as a standalone. It's a sweet story that has you wanting to read it in one sitting.
I loved this story, it's about time that Darla got to tell her story and have a chance to redeem herself. That poor girl, no wonder she behaved as she did previously.
Darla is back in town and has changed. She has cleaned herself up, moved back into her old home and just wants a new job and a quiet life. Coming back is difficult for her as she had upset so many people with her previous behaviour - at least the parts she could remember! Will the people of Haven forgive her? Definitely not some and that's the challenge.
A heartbreaking romance that takes Darla back to her hometown to confront a past that haunts her in more than one way…will she be able to mend fences after working so hard to change her life and make a new life and family or does one person change everything in the blink of an eye. Grab this all of the feels romantic suspense and see if Dale and Darla make it thru the fire.
OMG this was so good. Darla has been a real troublemaker in town so it's good to get her story. She's had a tough life but is now out to show her home town that she's a different person these days. There's romance and sizzle along with a bit of suspense.
Love this second chance story about darla and dale. Darla found love after years of self destructive behavior. I was hooked the first chapter and kept my interest the whole time.highly recommended for those who love romance and a bit of suspense mixed in.
Never Again is a great addition to Jill Sander’s Haven series. The book is well written and enjoyable. Great story that shows people really can change.
