Daven Talvi made a choice a quarter-century ago to serve the Bitterroot Elf Clan, allowing the Circle of Elders to send him into suspended animation until the queen could be rescued. In doing so, he gave up his mate and his newborn son, sacrificing his own life for that of the clan. It had been a mistake. With the clan now in chaos and the new young queen in hiding, Daven must acknowledge his own errors and take responsibility to set things right. He teams up with Lane Donatelli, a human who has too long used food and computer gaming to feed his own insecurities. Together, they use Lane’s beloved technology with Daven’s innate magical abilities to wage battle against the evil elf mages threatening the clan. Lyndi Alexander always dreamed of being able to handle the drama and intrigue in everyday life. She lives as a post-modern hippie in Asheville, North Carolina, a single mother of her last child of seven, a young adult daughter on the autism spectrum, finding that every day feels a lot like first contact with a new species.
If you like urban fantasy and magic realism, then I highly the 4-book series "Clan Elves of the Bitterroot" by Lyndi Alexander. THE ELF MAGE is the third installment and my favorite of the set, mainly because I love this book's protagonist, Daven Talvi. He is introduced from the beginning of the series in THE ELF QUEEN (book 1) as a complex character with a mysterious past. In THE ELF MAGE, the story of Daven is revealed and it's a dousy! The elves in the world of series are magical with different talents. I found this book particularly interesting for its blend of magic and technology. You just have to read to book to see what I mean.
THE ELF MAGE, the third book of the Clan Elves of the Bitterroot series, shows the evolution of Daven Talvi from an elf warrior to an elf mage. Struggling with a past that haunts him, Daven must find a way to protect his clan from a group of evil elf mages. As he works to sharpen his rusty magical powers, he realizes he cannot fight all of those mages by himself. He needs help. In desperation he turns to human friends with serious computer skills. THE ELF MAGE is a delightful and heartfelt blend of magic and modern technology. Highly recommended for urban fantasy readers!

I loved the first two books in the series, but this one might be even better. The new characters are well-developed and interesting. The stakes have increased and the tension is high from the opening to the nerve-wracking showdown toward the end. I love the bits of humor sprinkled throughout and the creativity of the magic world the author created is fascinating. A great read…looking forward to the next in the series!
