The young woman lay among the rocks next to the creek like a broken doll, strands of her long dark hair covering her face. Her body was the kind of cold that only the dead can be...

A body lies beside Kettlewell Creek, the waters rushing and churning next to her broken form. When Detective Josie Quinn arrives at the scene, she finds few clues and a victim with no enemies. Nineteen-year-old Sharon Eddy was cherished by her beloved grandmother, who raised her, and her death shocks the Denton community where she worked at the local animal hospital. When Josie is called to the morgue to hear the results of Sharon's autopsy, the case takes a sinister turn. She is horrified to see that a mark has been burned on to Sharon's left hip with a cattle a horseshoe shot through with an arrow. Shaken and terrified, the usually cool and collected Medical Examiner Anya Feist lifts her own top to show Josie an identical mark. Ten years ago, Anya fled her hometown after her marriage to her high school sweetheart ended in terror. But Josie can find nothing to connect Anya's ex-husband Vance Hadlee to the murder. Her search of his family farm leads to more questions than answers.

Then another body is found. A young woman in a red coat, lying in her final resting place, her hip bearing the same tell-tale horseshoe mark. As Josie gets closer to finding the truth, the killer creeps ever closer to home, threatening the lives of those Josie loves the most. Can she put together the pieces of this terrifying puzzle before it's too late?

** Happy publication day **

How will I ever recover from this book? Or even just enjoy another book so much?

This was book 17 and it's in the running for my top 3 faves of the series (although, there's one part that makes that so hard to say 🤐).

Full of the characters we've followed from early days, loads of twists and mystery, it's a real whodunit police procedural thriller. One of the ones where you can guess and guess and still end up shocked and trying to turn the pages quicker.

This was so perfect - the writing, the pacing, the emotion and just ALL of it. Just maybe one part I wish could be taken back (IYKYK).

If you're thinking about reading this standalone, it would work - the plot was outstanding. BUT, I'm not so sure it'd all hit the same. The characters, their development, the connections and relationships over time is one of the reasons I keep coming back for more of Josie and the team.

Plus, if you don't start at book 1 you'll miss book 3 and so many other gems 😆 all 4-5 stars for me! So yeah, I recommend this AND the whole series.

Don't close your eyes while reading this book, you do not want to miss a thing!

Close Her Eyes is another gripping and thrilling addition to the Detective Josie Quinn Series! I am always excited when I see that there is another book coming out! This is one of my favorite series and I love how Lisa Regan provides the backstory of a character in each of her books. In this book it is medical examiner, Anya Feist!

The team have their hands full in this book when Nineteen-year-old Sharon Eddy's body is found lying near Kettlewell Creek. The scene does not look right, and Josie doesn't have much to go on until she meets with Dr. Anya Feist who performed the autopsy. Sharon had been branded on her hip with a cattle brand, and a very rattled, Dr. Feist reveals that she has the same exact brand on her hip. A brand that her abusive c and controlling ex-husband, gave her.

As the investigation looks at Anya's ex-husband, Vance Hadlee, another body is found with the same brand on her hip. Knowing that time is of the essence, Josie, and the rest of her team, throw themselves into the investigation, unwilling to stop until they have a killer in custody.

As with the other books in this series, this book was well written, gripping, and shocking. The whole gang is in this book, including Josie's twin sister, Trinity, who is an investigative journalist.

This book had me doing my own super sleuthing along with the team. Luckily, they did a better job solving the case than I did. There were parts in this book where I cheered them on and parts where my heart ached. I loved being along as a silent observer as the team did what they do best, even when their investigation led them to work with another police jurisdiction.

Lisa Regan is a fast writer, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Gripping, thrilling, shocking and well written.

When Detective Josie Quinn was called to the discovery of a body, dead beside Kettlewell Creek, she had no idea of the heartache which was to follow. Sharon Eddy was dead but it was her autopsy which revealed the branding on her hip. The ME, Anya Feist, called Josie and Gretchen, to inform them, but also to show her own branding, done by her brutal ex-husband a decade ago. Was Vance Hadlee killing young women now to get to his ex-wife? With Josie and her husband Noah, also a detective, plus her team beside them, they headed to the Hadlee farm. It was in a different county, so Sheriff Cyrus Grey was along for the ride. But was he corrupt?

As the case advanced, excruciatingly slowly, another young woman was found, similarly branded. And the death of a young woman, years before, in Grey's county seemed to link to the current ones in Denton. What was going on? Who was the culprit, and why was there a gap of ten years before the first current murder? Josie needed the answers but they just weren't coming...

Close Her Eyes is the 17th in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan and once again it was intense, gritty and heartbreaking. I always enjoy the characters as they chase down killers, putting them behind bars. The quiet time for Josie as she interacts with Noah, her twin, Trinity, plus Misty and her little boy Harris, who Josie and Noah love. I feel I know them all well, and it's great catching up during each episode. Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

The body of Sharon Eddy was found lying near a stream. Bruises on her neck suggest that she was strangled. Detective Josie Quinn and Detective Finn Mettner investigate. They can't find anyone who would want to hurt this young woman. A call from Medical Examiner Anya Feist changes everything. She shows Josie a fresh brand that was burnt into the skin of the victim. Anya also shows Josie the brand on her own hip...the one her ex-husband Vance Hadlee put on her ten years ago. The brands match exactly. When another body with a matching brand shows up a few nights later, Josie is trying to break Vance's airtight alibi. Did he kill and brand these women or has someone set him up?

Wow! This is the seventeenth book in the series and one of my favorites. There were several people in this story that made my suspect list. I think I could build a scenario where each one of them started killing these women for various reasons. I was thoroughly entertained as I tried to figure out whodunit. The great mystery along with a shock that I didn't see coming, makes this book one of my favorites in the series. My rating: 5 Stars.

What else can I say? I am a huge Lisa Regan fan. After reading the Josie Quinn series for so long, I feel as though the characters are family to me, but Close Her Eyes offers so much more than just a great plot. I was filled with a real sense of emotion while reading. As the action increased, for example, I felt my hand cover my mouth. When I was confronted with a sad situation, tears streamed down my cheeks. Unlike any other thriller author I've read, Lisa Regan's writing touches my heart. Although the Josie Quinn books work well standalone, I love every book in the series and highly recommend them all.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for sharing Close Her Eyes with me. I appreciate your kindness.

In this latest instalment in Lisa Regan's Detective-Josie-Quinn series, Josie is called to the body of a young woman. She soon starts to discover links to past crimes, a wealthy family in a small town not far from her native Denton and even to Anya Feist, the local pathologist with whom Josie had already formed a fledgling friendship.

As in most of Regan’s books in this series, one of the team plays a big part in the mystery and in this novel it’s the afore-mentioned pathologist who has a complicated past…

Also in line with most of these police procedurals, the plot is very engaging: I found myself reading at pretty much every opportunity and it was with a heavy heart that I had to return to my other responsibilities. At many times, this book was a total page turner, exciting, thrilling and suspenseful.

Whereas in a few previous novels in this series, there were problems with pacing or keeping things interesting, this was never the case in this one. After the unnecessarily brutal prologue, this book captured my interest and never let go.

Beyond the interesting mystery and its satisfying conclusion, the new insights into Anya were well done and the developments between Josie and Noah were… promising!
Also along on the ride - albeit in very minor capacities - are Trinity, Josie’s twin sister, and her husband, Drake.

There is also one very unfortunate event, but it does not detract from the book in any way.

»No regrets.«

All in all, this was a very entertaining and highly welcome return to Josie Quinn. If you enjoyed previous novels in this series, you’ll feel right at home in this one and if you didn’t, this might be a good second attempt!

Five out of five stars!

Where do I begin?!?!? This one is a heart breaker. And may be a new favorite.

Those who know me know I’m a HUGE fan of this series. Detective Josie Quinn is a total bada$$! The way the author has grown the characters is just phenomenal.

This one really hit for me. I have many favorites. I love them all but there are a couple that just stand out. And this is book 17, and yet this series still gets me. I sobbed like a baby at certain points.

This authors ability to grow a character the way she has, blows my mind. When you open a book in this series and step into Denton, PA…you are literally consumed and immersed fully. You race with Josie to find answers. Answers that leave you breathless and at times gutted.

This book once again blends the Josie magic with pure fast paced adrenaline, family, love and sadly pain.

I don’t do spoilers so I could go on but I won’t. Suffice to say Detective Josie Quinn fans will be thinking about Denton, PA long after they finish this book. Good thing she started writing book 18‼️

This is the 17th Detective Josie Quinn mystery. I have read more than half of them; it is one of my favorite series. Typically, I stay up late to finish each one because I can’t put them down!

In this case, a dead body is found in a nearby stream. When the MO has ties to someone in Josie’s orbit, the plot thickens. While Josie, her husband, Noah, and the team investigate, it seems this murder may be related to a cold case being researched by Josie’s twin sister, Tiffany, an investigative journalist. When a second body shows up, the mystery deepens. Danger awaits the team as the book reaches a stunning conclusion.

I always enjoy revisiting the repeating characters in Josie’s life. She has an interesting backstory and the author @LisaRegan always does a good job filling in that information so that these books do work as standalones. I do suggest, however, going back and reading some of the prior in the series. Despite having had many travails in her life, Josie is a strong, capable, likable female protagonist.

If you like well written police procedurals/thrillers, and are not familiar with this series, I would recommend it. I can’t wait for the next one!

Close Her Eyes by Lisa Regan  is the 17th in the Detective Josie Quinn series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background:    (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)
Detective Josie Quinn has had a rough life,  and she still grieves the loss of her beloved grandmother, who was the only one she could rely on. As a baby, Josie had been kidnapped, and passed off as another woman's child.  Recently she has found her real parents, as well as her twin sister - news reporter Trinity Payne,  and her brother Patrick.   She works with the Denton Police Department, and her team consists of Detective Noah Fraley (her husband), Detective Gretchen Palmer, and Detective Finn Mettner (who is dating Press Secretary Amber Watts).  Their boss is Chief Bob Chitwood, and their Medical Examiner is Dr. Anya Feist.

My Synopsis:    (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Nineteen year-old Sharon Eddy is found dead, beside Kettlewell Creek, not far from the animal hospital where she works.  Sharon's grandmother, who raised her, is devastated.

The autopsy shows she was strangled.  But more menacing is the brand on her hip - identical to one on Dr. Anya Feist's, the Medical Examiner, who received hers from her abusive husband Vance Hadlee, ten years ago.

The same horseshoe brand with an arrow through it is on both women, but there doesn't seem to be any connection between Anya's ex-husband and Sharon Eddy.  When another woman is found with the same tattoo,  things start to add up, but in a rather perplexing way.

Josie and the team will fight to ensure Anya's safety, and to put the culprit in jail, but not before losing one of their own.

My Opinions:
Although this could easily be read as a stand-alone novel, knowing the characters back-grounds is always important, so I really recommend that the books be read in order.

I had actually guessed the perpetrators early on, but it certainly didn't diminish the urgency to keep reading.  The plot was really good, and I loved Anya's storyline, although I don't feel it was finished...maybe in a future book?  Another piece that could have been finished was a blurb about Sharon's grandmother.  The plot touched on domestic violence, as well as foster children.  Both were handled very sensitively.

The last couple books, including this one, seemed really long, although I don't really know why.  There was a fair amount of action, and the pace was good, but it still seemed like a long book.

Anyway, the book was really good, but I hope the author isn't planning on continuing the fast pace of her releases.  3 or 4 a year is too much, and as much as I am looking forward to the next in the series, I can do with a break.

The seventeenth entry in the Josie Quinn series is another page turning thriller that is hard to put down. In this story we learn more about Medical Examiner Anya Feist and her history. And there is a shocking loss.

Detective Josie Quinn is called to the scene when the body of nineteen-year-old Sharon Eddy is found next to Kettlewell Creek. There are few clues as to the cause of death and the victim had no enemies. The body is transported to the morgue where Medical Examiner Anya Feist performs the autopsy. Josie is surprised when Dr. Feist calls her and asks to see her. Just Josie. Sharon Eddy has been burned with a cattle brand on her left hip. A horseshoe shot through with an arrow. Joise is further shocked when Dr. Feist lifts her top to reveal an identical mark.

Ten years ago Anya fled her hometown and husband, Vance Hadlee, in terror. Vance was the person who abused her but the Hadlee family owns a large dairy farm and is powerful. Anya felt she had no choice but to flee and start a new life. It can't be a coincidence that both Anya and Sharon have the same mark on their hip. But why now and why after ten years? Has Vance found her and is he trying to send a message knowing that she is the medical examiner in the county?

Then the body of another young woman is found bearing the same mark. Josie and her team have their hands full. At the same time there is a side story taking place. Josie's twin sister, Trinity, is an investigative journalist and is visiting because she is working on a possible story that just happens to take place in the same county as the Hadlee dairy farm.

There is a climatic showdown towards the end of the book that will leave long time readers of the series shocked. And the ending leaves a question about Josie and Noah's plans for their future. One of the wonderful things about this series is that in many of the stories the author provides some background on one of the characters. You get to know them.

Fans of Angela Marsons and Robert Dugoni will enjoy this series. As soon as I hear that there is a new Josie Quinn book coming out it is put on my "To Be Read" shelf.

No, no, no - not an ending I saw coming and decidedly not one I wanted to bring to a close the 17th installment of this very entertaining series. A few other surprises were in store near the end as well, but this one is a doozy.

Other than that observation, upon which I will not expand, I'll say that books in this series stand pretty well on their own, although I do think it helps to have read at least some of the others first (I've had seven on my Kindle in addition to this one). The focus is on Denton, Pennsylvania, Detective Josie Quinn and her very competent team. As this one begins, she's at home with her twin sister, Trinity Payne, Trinity's boyfriend Drake Nally (an FBI agent from the New York City Field Office) and her husband, Denton police Lt. Noah Fraley. After dinner, Josie gets a call from another of her team members, Finn Mettner, explaining that a woman's body has been found along nearby Kettlewell Creek.

During the initial inspection by Medical Examiner Dr. Anya Feist, it's discovered that the woman has a cattle brand on her hip - a horrifying sight that terrifies the good doctor for an equally horrifying reason: She's got an identical brand on her hip, inflicted by her former husband from whom she ran away to Denton (and has been on edge ever since wondering where and when he'll find her). Problem is, there's zero evidence tying Anya's ex-husband, or his equally mean father, who's somewhat incapacitated by a stroke, to the new murder.

Trinity, a TV journalist who does stories on unsolved, or questionable, crimes, is in Denton to gather more information on a different case. When a second woman's dead body turns up - with that same brand on her hip - the action starts to heat up and, not unsurprisingly, so does suspicion that the story Trinity is working on has ties to the current murders. But suspicion isn't proof, so Josie and her team keep digging despite the threat - which too often extracts physical and mental tolls - until the exciting conclusion that includes that unforeseen, and most unwelcome ending. I have to say I enjoyed this one a teeny bit less than most of the others I've read, in large part because a little too much of it just seemed a little too contrived. But I'm also sure most fans of the series will love it (well, except for, you know...) As for me, I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for once again allowing me to read and review a pre-release copy.

Sharon Eddy, nineteen, has been murdered. Detective Josie Quinn is pulled into the case and soon learns that the murder is connected to another case from years ago that took place in another county. There are other connections, and these involve her twin sister Trinity’s possible journalistic story, and even the medical examiner, Anya, who over the years has become a friend to Josie.

With the body recently found, and the long ago case resurfacing, Josie, her husband Noah, and others on their team are forced to work with an officer from another town, and at first they find more questions than answers.

In a lot of ways this case really starts with Anya and traces back to her previously abusive marriage. Her then husband left a permanent brand on her that Anya discovers on the recent murder victim. The connection is undeniable and this not only shakes Anya to her core, but also Josie, Noah, Mettner and others on the team. One of the biggest answers they are seeking is why is there a ten-year gap between the crimes, and while the suspect might seem obvious, what ties these crimes together.

Considering that things go beyond Anya and her disturbing past, Josie is also looking into what brings Trinity into these cases and how the past and present are colliding. With breakneck speed, the shocking story begins to unfold. Most of it is beyond tragic and the sense of loss for all concerned was palpable. Lisa Regan has kept this series alive and powerful, making this as well as the previous sixteen titles incredible reads, reads that kept my heart in my throat and much more.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Anyone ever want to ask an author "excuse me, what did you just do???" I guess they keep us on our toes and never get too complacent in thinking you know how the series is going to go.

Another edge of your seat thriller with some shocks and twists. One thing I can talk about is giving us the backstory for medical examiner, Anya Feist. I really enjoyed getting to know more about her and really hope we get more.

Close Her Eyes is books 17 in the Detective Josie Quinn series which is a gift to mystery fans everywhere! If you are new to the Josie Quinn series you can jump right in and be happy reading Close Her Eyes, but it's a bit more meaningful if you've been reading all along. Close Her Eyes starts with Josie at home enjoying her sister's visit. Trinity and Drake are visiting and staying with Josie and Noah as Trinity prepares for a new show about a cold case. As they sit down to watch a movie, Josie gets called to a scene where a body has been found. Josie's on call and rushes out of the house to the scene. A body of a young woman has been found beside a creek. There are very few clues at the scene, the girl is nineteen, and she had no enemies! Sharon Eddy, the victim, lived with her grandmother and worked at the local animal hospital. An autopsy will be done to find out cause of death.

The next day Josie gets a call from Anya Feist, the medical examiner. She wants Josie to come to the morgue as soon as possible. Something is wrong as Anya doesn't normally call Josie to the morgue. Anya found that Sharon had been burned on her left hip with a cattle brand. It was a horseshoe with an arrow through it. Anya is shaken and upset. She begins to pull up her top to show Josie the same exact cattle brand on her hip. Josie and Anya are close, but neither one likes talking about their past. Anya was married to a bad man when she was young and ten years ago she left that life behind. Her ex-husband, Vance Hadlee, still lives In Bly on his family farm. That's a couple of towns over from where Josie and Anya work. Josie can't find any connection between Vance and the victim.

As the investigation progresses, Trinity's cold case might actually be linked to Josie's current case. Trinity shares the file from the cold case with Josie and they talk through what they know. Another body of a young woman is found and she has the same cattle brand that Sharon, the first victim, had. Who is doing this and why? The police in Bly don't seem at all helpful because the Hadlee's pretty much run the town and get favors from everyone. The father is a menace, but he's had a stroke and doesn't seem as dangerous as he was before. Vance has never gotten over Anya leaving him and still calls her his wife! They've been divorced for 10 years! This family has a lot to hide, but are they murderers of young girls? As Josie and the team get closer to the killer, things get dangerous for them! Someone doesn't want them to uncover the truth and will do anything to prevent it!

This is another Josie Quinn book that you simply can't put down. Trying to solve the mystery with so many possibilities will keep you flipping the pages at record speed. There are some very tense parts for fans of the series and you will definitely shed some tears. Lisa Regan has outdone herself with Close Her Eyes! I rate the book 5 stars and give it my highest recommendation! As always, I look forward to the next book in the Josie Quinn series. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Close Her Eyes in exchange for a fair review. #CloseHerEyes

Well what can I say I’m speechless at just how brilliant this book was and I can’t believe it’s book 17 and the series is just as compelling and fresh as it was when I read the first book. The plot in this latest offering is a complex one with Josie and the team trying to figure out a story with many facets we have murders that seem to be connected but just how is the biggest mystery here with many twist and turns.
I was surprised many times as when I thought I had sussed out the plot I was then taken aback by just how wrong I was and that for me goes to prove what a fabulous writer Lisa Regan is to be always completely at the top of her game is such an achievement, wow girl you know how to keep the suspense going !
So I was sad to finish the book for more than one reason of which I’m not going to elaborate on but I can promise you it’s a stunning read so don’t miss out !
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

It really is the characters that keep me coming back to this series. I just want to see the best for them! It was great to see Trinity and her partner back for this one; it's felt like a while since we have seen much from them. We got to see some character development from Josie in this one as she potentially reconsiders her thoughts about family. We also, sadly, lose one of the 'gang' -- this was hard to read. Crime wise for this one though, I figured it out fairly early whodunnit as it felt pretty obvious. Keen to see where this series continues to lead!

Absolutely heartbreaking 5 🌟
I was honored to get an ARC of the latest in this awesome series. Lisa Regan does it again. After Eve Dallas and the In Death series, this is my favorite. I love Josie Quinn and all the supporting cast of characters. The growth these characters have had is phenomenal. Lisa manages to make their stories real, while fiction, one becomes so engrossed and invested in their lives and growth.
I love Lisa's writing style. There's enough to paint a picture but doesn't become a boresome run-on of needless descriptive prose. She also manages to throw in enough background that in a reader jumps in at #17, they aren't lost. While each book in this series can definitely serve as a stand-alone read, I highly advise starting at the beginning and learning these characters as they evolve and grow. It's a wondrous thing to watch.
Now, without including spoilers, I will say, have your hankie ready. I ugly cried twice towards the end. I thought I knew where the sadness would come from, but I was totally thrown for a loop.
Two things I loved about this book and others in the series were the focus on an individual supporting character and learning their background story. I love learning more about the character's pasts, and this time, it was Dr. Anya Feist's turn. I also adored the scene between Josie and Chief Chitwood in the ER exam room. I literally LOL'd reading it.
I will end this by saying that the ending was so sweet and definitely needed to bring Josie further in her healing and growth. Lisa Regan rocks!!!
Thank you, Netgalley, for the opportunity to receive and review this ARC. This review is my own opinion and will be cross-posted

I love this series! The author combines all the best aspects of a police procedural and a thriller to make one great book. Detective Josie Quinn is called to the scene of the suspicious death of a young woman. During the autopsy, the Medical Examiner discovers she has something unexpected in common with the victim which puts a whole new spin on the case. The more Josie and her team investigate, the more complicated the case seems to become, with possible connections to seemingly unrelated murders. One of the best parts of this series is what a strong character Josie is and how well she and her husband Noah work together on the job and support each other both on and off duty. Josie's twin sister Trinity, who hosts a true crime television show, is also involved in the investigation and it's nice catching up with her.

I started this series with book five and for the most part, each book stands alone. However, Close Her Eyes will have more of an emotional impact for returning readers, and fair warning - that impact is HUGE in this one. There is more sadness than usual, and although the hopeful ending doesn't completely make up for it, it does help! I highly recommend this book, which I rate 4.5 stars, and the entire series.

I received an advance copy of this ebook from NetGalley and Bookouture at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

I love the Detective Josie Quinn series! This book is readable as a stand-alone but it is much more rewarding if you read the previous books first. Once again this book was masterfully plotted and written. Fast paced and just when you think you figured it out another twist comes.

This book did not disappoint! But that ending, why oh why? Can't wait to read the next one.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for an ARC of "Close Her Eyes" in exchange of an honest review.

Riveting

Lisa Regan has done it again. This kept me guessing the whole time. I love all the twists and turns and the emotional upheaval shocked me and brought me to tears. Love all of the Josie Quinn family. Looking forward to the next adventures.

When the body of a young woman is found next to a local creek, Detective Josie Quinn is called in as she's on call. Almost immediately, the case takes a personal turn, and as her team get deeper into the investigation, no one can even guess at the heavy toll it will take on all of them before the killer is finally arrested.

Book 17 in Lisa Regan's brilliant series is a devastating but enthralling read from the very first chapter, and I was a total mess by the end. There are some excellent books featuring Josie Quinn, but this one is worthy of far more than the five stars available. I really hope number 18 isn't too far away because I absolutely need to know what happens next.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the opinions expressed are my own. This is highly recommended, but you will definitely need tissues. One of my best books so far this year.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Close Her Eyes book number 17 in the Detective Josie Quinn series delivered a well written and riveting police procedural. I am fairly new to the series, with this being the second book that I have read. Each book works well as a standalone, as they feature different cases. Regan also provides the relevant information to enlighten new readers and refresh the minds of fans of the series. For readers new to the series, this information will leave you wanting to pick up the other books in the series.

The case featured in this installment centres around the murder of nineteen-year-old Sharon Eddy. At first it appeared the victim had fallen to her death, but after careful examination of the body revealed a case of murder. The findings of the examination also opened up old wounds for Anya, the medical examiner. It forced her to relive painful memories from her past. As Josie digs to learn if the person in Anya’s past is responsible for the death of Sharon, she discovers a connection to another murder in another county which occurred ten years ago. It so happened this was the same mystery Josie’s twin sister, Trinity, sought information for a feature on her television program.

Close Her Eyes pulled me in from the first page and refused to let me loose until the end. There were many guilty parties and the introduction of more victims made it interesting trying to unravel the connection between all parties. Although figuring out who the guilty party wasn’t difficult, the case had many moving parts, making it a complex one. Josie and her team had their work cut out for them.

Regan does an excellent job of giving Josie’s backstory. So despite not being with the series from the start, it allowed me to connect with her. Knowing what she has been through in the past made her real and not just a fictional character. The story hidden between the pages of Close Her Eyes will both thrill you and gut you as it unfolds. Be prepared for a rollercoaster ride as the past and present collides. The outcome, while bringing closure, the path to get there, was laden with tragedy.

I am enjoying this series, and I am glad I discovered the author. Fans of police procedurals, crime fiction and relatable characters should add this series to their reading list. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
