Wyss is best remembered for his book The Swiss Family Robinson. A pastor with four sons, it is said that he was inspired by Defoe's Robinson Crusoe to write a story from which his own children would learn, as the father in the story taught important lessons to his children.
The Swiss Family Robinson was first published in 1812 and translated into English two years later. It has since become one of the most popular books of all time. The book was edited by his son, Johann Rudolf Wyss, a scholar who wrote the Swiss national anthem. Another son, Johann Emmanuel Wyss, illustrated the book.
After reading the Swiss Family Robinson I was left some what satisfied. I say this because I didn't want it to end as I liked the book so much. I love the adventure, the deep character development, and all the inventions they created. I love how they adopt animals along the way and how they have many different homes. If this book was part of a series I would have already finished the it. I would recommend this book to people who like adventure and survival. This book is really interesting and is quite the learning experience as well. This book is awesome.
Although there were at times, some really long, overly (at least in my opinion), in depth descriptions of animals, diy's, etc...it was an overall nice peaceful story, with a predictable, but nice ending. I would recommend this book to someone who has alot of time on their hands, and wants to keep their minds on simple ways of life.
