Whispers in the Shadows by Heather Beck is a book that contains five short stories that are part of the Legends Unleashed Series. Ms. Beck is a new author to me and when she asked me for an honest review and read the book description I had to read the book.

In “Where feelings go to die”, Ashleigh is at Black Heart Lake to write a story for the small regional magazine she is working for, but also to be far away from her ex-boyfriend Drake. Never could she imagine being part of an old legend that includes three ghosts.

In “Hot Egyptian Nights”, Hailey meets Zade during her tour in Egypt, from the first moment she is attracted to this stranger. But her journey takes an awful turning when she receives a pendant and a mystery card.

In “Rival to Survival”, Scarlet meets her boyfriend Harv when she is still in a relationship with Trevor. She likes Trevor but cannot ignore her attraction towards Harv, but Harv has a secret and isn’t sure she can handle it. But Scarlett is determined to stay with Harv, even if that means return with him to the Dark Forest and face his secrets.

In “The Truth about Fairy Tales”, Destiny and Lila are tired dating the wrong men, so they decide to give this “Find Your Prince Charming” a change. Never in a million years could they expect that Philip and Christopher could their prince charming....it’s almost too good to be true...

In “Lure of the Merman”, Bree is drawn to the sea on her jogging trip and when a storm appears, she tries to shelter against a rock, but falls into quicksand. Then she hears a men’s voice in her head and believe he’s trying to help her, but before she knows it Sandy guides her into the sea. The question is...has he saved her or doomed her to a life in the sea?

All the stories are well written with fabulous characters, great world building and a storyline to be drawn into. I definitely recommend this book to readers who love to read a collection of short stories with some amazing paranormal creatures that you will fall in love with.

I have to say that some of the stories are a little strange, but definitely enjoyable. Sometimes I wanted the story to be a little longer just to enjoy the great characters. I’m definitely going to check out some of Ms. Beck’s other books.

Terrific mix of five chilling little stories. Each story has their own characters and their own background and original plot, but they are all about love in some way. After reading these stories, you might think twice before falling in love again!

The author remained to her plan and all of the five stories were eccentric and fantastic. I really enjoyed the fact that each stories were also very different from one another even if the main subject is love and frightening situations.

Personally, the fifth and last story, Lure of the Merman, was my favorite because as a girl, I always wished I could be a mermaid. I was a fan of The Little Mermaid when I was just a child. I love everything about mermaid/merman and it was a first for me: a mermaid story filled with a horrible situation and a scary nation who live under the sea and have only one wish. You will have to read it to know what this wish is is!

Hot Egyptian Nights was the creepiest stories but also the one that really plunged me into the whole ''Legends Unleashed'' series. I didn't read the volumes 1-4 so I didn't know what to expect. The fact that the main character was out of her comfort zone, really hooked me to read more.

Rival to Survival and The Truth about Fairy Tales were two stories that really impressed me by the subject and the contents but also by the humour behind whole story.

Finally, Where feelings go to die, was the one I liked the least. I think it was because of how it ended and the fact that the main subject was about a girl who was abused (psychologically manipulated by her boyfriend) and find herself in presence of ghost who lived the same situation. The end and the moral of the story are a bit disappointing from my POV.

Overall, these stories were awesome and well written. These little stories were the first I read from the author Heather Beck and won't be the last; I hope I'll have the chance to read the first four stories one day!

Whispers In The Shadows is a multi-genre book that is hard to classify. Paranormal romance meets action, adventure, comedy, contemporary, fairy tale, literary and suspense is the beginning of an accurate description. Each story takes the reader into exciting new worlds with well-developed characters and intricate plots. Original and well-written, you’ve never read a book like this...unless you’re familiar with Beck’s previous works. Five stars and highly recommended.
