I don’t understand the high ratings, did I read the same book as everyone else?! I picked this up because the blurb sounded interesting, but it was a huge let down.
Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers (but not really because this all happens in the prologue)….
This is the story of Dean and Ella; Dean is Ella’s brother’s BFF. Ella has been in love with Dean since she was a teenager, and he’s apparently also reciprocated her feeling but has never acted on them because of said brother and the 10 year age difference between himself and Ella. The prologue starts with Ella going to her brother’s club in a LBD to try to get Dean to notice her. Then the poor thing gets assaulted in the bathroom, but, of course, Dean saves the day. She then confesses her undying love. He tells her that he loves her too but that she basically needs to grow up, live a little, go to college, and then they can hook up. Then, BAM, it’s chapter 1 and four years later!
What I liked: 1. The sexy times 2. The relationship between Ella and her brothers
What I didn’t like: 1. I hate books that tell me (rather than show me through dialogue and character interaction) that two people are “in love”. Pretty much right off the bat, we are told that Ella and Dean are in love because he’s her brother’s BFF and they’ve known each other forever; but aside from that, none of their history is actually laid out. The blurb said that although this is part of a series it is a standalone, so I didn’t read the first two books. Maybe the history and the love between Ella and Dean comes out in the first two books, but having not read those, I’m just supposed to accept that they are “in love”?! What’s worse is that the love didn’t even build between them throughout the book. Right after Ella comes back from college, Dean “claims” her (in like the first chapter) and then they are dropping L bombs. I didn’t feel the love between them at all.
2. There was little to no character development. I had so many questions…. How in the hell did Ella not know Dean’s last name or anything about his family if they’ve known each other for years and she supposedly “loves” him? There were so many holes in this story! Dean and Ellas brothers are constantly talking about murdering people, and they’re not exaggerating, they literally killed the guy that assaulted Ella (although this was pretty much said as an afterthought in one of Dean’s internal monologues). What do they do that they can so easily kill someone? Dean said they are not in the Mafia, so I don’t get it! Are they part of some crime family? What’s the deal with Dean’s brother? If their family isn’t in the Mafia, why is Dean’s brother off killing people and feeding them to his pigs?
3. I didn’t understand all the talk of Dean “leaving” Ella! FFS they weren’t together! How do you “leave” someone you’re not in a relationship with? Also… SHE was the one who packed her bags the next day and moved across the country. It was just so overly dramatic! Maybe if I knew the history between the two, and there had been even a little bit of buildup to their relationship, I would have understood how he was “leaving” her, but as it was, I just didn’t get it.
4. I didn’t understand Ella being “broken”. She REPEATEDLY refers to herself as “broken” because of the bathroom incident. Now, I don’t mean to minimize this; it was horrible! I would understand how it could lead to PTSD, especially while going to a public bathroom, but I just didn’t think it was SOOOOO traumatic that it completely “broke” Ella to the point where she started cutting herself! I kept waiting for the “big reveal” of some deep, dark trauma from her past that made her so “broken”. Like maybe she was kidnapped and held in a basement as a child; maybe she was sold into sex slavery but was rescued in the nick of time; maybe she witnessed the horrific torture and subsequent murder of her parents; but nope! Her being roughed up in the bathroom, combined with Dean “leaving” her was enough to drive her over the edge! Maybe I’m heartless (or I’ve just read too many Dark Romance novels), but the trauma didn’t seem THAT traumatic to me.
5. The assassination attempt on Ella’s life was just too ridiculous for words! I felt like it was just thrown in there so that the book could have some semblance of a plot. Sarah, a character who seems to pop up out of nowhere, is trying to murder Ella because of some grudge that she holds. It’s obvious that Sarah and her issues were introduced the previous books, but, again, having not read those, I just didn’t get it!
Overall, I would not recommend this; but if you’re set on reading it, it would probably help to read books 1 and 2 as well, because maybe (hopefully) you’ll get some back story and character development that will help fill in some of the gaping holes in this book.
Overall entertaining. Tortured love, age gap, brother’s best friend, all that. Not enough groveling by Dean and Ella gives herself over super quick.
Looking back after finishing the book, the thing putting me off Dean in a big way is: it sounds pretty certain that Dean slept with Sarah more than once during the four year time gap. I get he thinks Ella is living it up in college so he is sleeping around. But his decision-making to sleep with Sarah though? Total douche move. She is “best friends” with Alyssa, the wife of his best friend and boss, Zac, and will (theoretically) always be around as part of their social group. He claims to have been waiting for Ella to return and make his claim as he’s always loved her. Why would he sleep with someone that would always be in Ella’s face? Huge lack of respect towards her and just plain disregard.

KU Read 301 Pages Forbidden Romance Brothers Best Friend Second Chance (4 years later) Triggers (Self Harm)
This was better than I expected. I was wondering where the drama was coming from cos we knew Dean and Ella were smitten already but shocker was that a previous character that's been in the series from book 1 turns out to be the villain and kidnaps Ella when she discovers money is being stolen from the family business. The end felt a little rushed and the villain seemed a little out of the left field but it still worked.
This is my first book by Kylie Kent and I really liked it. Ella & Dean are perfect for each other. Those who like the "Brother's Best Friend", dive into it. It deals with sensitive issues but I thought Kylie handled it all nicely. Ella has been through hell and back, it has broken her spirit but not her will. Dean was very supportive of her and tried his best to prove to her that he will always be there for her.
The pacing is great and the narration too. There are a few surprises I never saw coming. It's part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
This is the 3rd book in this fascinating series and this is Dean and Elle's story. This is a well written story which has emotions, humour, witty banter, intrigue, twists, friendships, overprotective brothers, challenges, and love which all leads to an entertaining and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
By far my favorite of the Merge Books! Don't get me wrong. I love Zac and Bray as well, but Ella and Dean's story I can relate more too! I love the dramatic of their relationship. How they have to struggle to get where they are at. Definitely want more of the Williamsons/McKinleys!
Entwined with Him is a beautifully written second chance romance story that takes you on an emotional journey about love, sacrifice, heartbreak, dealing with your inner demons, and fighting for not only your loved ones but also for that once in a lifetime soul deep love like Ella and Dean's....
💙Always have
💙Always will
After four long years at University Ella is finally returning home, but is she ready to come face to face with the man who left her when she needed him the most? Four years ago Dean made a heartbreaking decision, let a young Ella go to live her dreams, breaking his own heart in the process. Now that she is back he refuses to make the mistake twice and is determined to make Ella his once and for all. But now that they have a second chance will Dean and Ella finally become Entwined? Or.... Will Ella refuse to risk her heart again? Will her demons when they come to the surface tear them apart? Or will they lose their chance at a HEA when Ella becomes a target for someone who is unhappy about her return? The journey these two went on was riddled with heartache, emotion, steam, humour, sizzling chemistry, romance, some serious hot alpha ness, and had a dash of suspense and action. It had my Kindle heating up, my heart equally aching and warming, and me reaching for the tissues, laughing out loud, biting my nails with anticipation, and swooning over not only Dean but also Bray because seriously what a man and what a brother he was for Ella. I absolutely devoured this story and with the introduction of a new dark, mysterious and sexy character and a possible sneak peak of what's to come I'm beyond excited for what Kylie Kent may just be bringing us next. Another Must Read!!
Entwined With Him by Kylie Kent is book three in the Merged series and can be read as a standalone. Entwined with Him is an age-gap, brother’s best friend, second chance romance. Ella Williamson and Dean McKinley have known each other for years as Ella’s older brother Zac is Dean’s best friend. Ella fell in love with Dean at fifteen and attempted to pursue him after she turned eighteen. Dean loved Ella but felt it was best if they kept their distance so she could live her life. Feeling rejected, Ella departed to University in Melbourne. Four years later she’s back and this time Dean won’t make the mistake of letting her go again. Ella and Dean’s journey to a happily ever after won’t be easy as Ella’s demons come back to haunt her.
Entwined With Him is beautifully written, emotional, and intense. Ella struggles with feelings of brokenness and self-harm and her journey to overcome that is a tough one. My heart broke for her every time her struggles came up, but I loved that she had a supportive family to help her with her demons. Bray and Dean were so supportively swoon-worthy, protective, yet sweet heroes I adored. I loved Ella and Dean’s sizzling chemistry and their intense emotional reactions.
Kylie Kent has delivered a heart-wrenching, dramatic, and emotional romance with a great bit of suspense and action! I can’t wait to see what else Kylie Kent has in store for us.
** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own and I have not been compensated for this review**
This third book had me begging for more until the very end! I couldn't put this book down and only sleep stopped me! I could completely empathize with Ella with her emotional past and feelings with Dean. This story of a forbidden young love eventually becomes a tense alpha protection energy and spicy sexy scenes. Strong family bonds are still an epicenter like the previous books and some new family dynamics form with the Williamsons. If you liked the other two you/need/ to grab this book and read it like yesterday! Arguably my favorite one yet in the series!
I absolutely loved Dean and Ella. Since book one I've been desperate to read their story. I'm an absolute sucker for brother's best friend romances and Kylie did not disappoint. Within this story you get the conclusion of the Merged series, a little further view into the HEA of Zac, Alyssa, Rilley, and Bray. Along with other major revelations and the introduction of a new mouth watering character that I can't wait for.
Brothers best friend Romance is my favourite kinda trope and this one did not disappoint. It was so much more than this one trope though...there's intrigue, mystery and family. Not to mention the hilarious one liners, the love, the history and the action. Kent stays close to her roots and makes the reader addicted to her stories once more... I cannot wait for the next book by this new author
Omg! This seris was AWESOME.I enjoyed reading all of them, merged, fused and entertwined. But what about Holly. I want to see her with a HEA. But i could not put them down. Anticipating impatiently for Joshy's HEA! CAN'T WAIT!
I was so heartbroken for Ella; I can’t even begin to imagine the pain that she went through. I was ecstatic to know that Bray was there to support her and be there for her during a dark point in her life. The way that Dean handled everything though spoke volumes about how much he truly cares for Ella. I don’t think there would have been a more perfect man for her aside from Dean, he took everything in stride and always made sure she knew that he was there. He got her to not be ashamed about her feelings, it was so sweet it had me crying. I cried for a good bit with Ella. The struggle, the pain, the fear. The way she grew as a character through the story was amazing. I was so happy to see her overcome and work through so much. Enjoyed that I didn’t have to wait forever for Dean and Ella to start working towards the relationship. The fact that Dean knew he messed up and was ready to make amends and that Ella was ready to hear it even though she wanted to make him suffer. At first, I thought Dean should have sucked it up and not pushed her away, that he should have pursued the relationship. As time went on though, Dean did have a point that she needed to get out and live her life. I think after reading everything that their relationship started at the right time and that she was able to feel comfortable in her own skin again. Don’t get me started on the thrill in there too, I was dying to know who was stealing the money! Then waiting for everything to happen there at the end, I felt like I couldn’t stop reading until I KNEW what happened. Just never knowing when the danger was going to hit was driving me insane, for a hot minute I thought it was going to happen while they were on their getaway. Liked getting a little glimpse into the life of Dean’s brother, Josh. Adding that little bit with him and Emily there at the end really helped start to introduce characters from the next series and got me excited for something new. The whole connection between Ella and Josh is awesome, it’s like she is always going to have brothers around her. Can’t wait to read Josh’s story next!

Entwined With Him is the perfect addition to the Merge series with Dean and Ella’s story ❤️❤️❤️ The love for each other is so strong that they can overcome anything.
Always have ❤️ U Always will ❤️
After four years Ella is finally back home and Dean made a promise to himself that this time he will not let her go. At age 18 Ella had a future ahead of her and Dean strongly believed that she should have all the experience in the world like any college student should. Letting her go was the hardest thing he’s ever done. But now that she’s back he realizes how hard has been for both of them and how much she’s still suffering from their breakup and the horrible incident that happened at her brothers club where she almost got raped.
But now that they are finally in each other’s hands, can they have a normal life ? While taking one step at the time they still have more challenges coming their way when they discover who wants Ella disappear due to discovery of the missing funds at the brothers club.
Entwined With Him by Kylie Kent is the third book in the Merged series, and it is a true Brothers Best Friend story. Ella Williamson and Dean McKinley have known each other forever, with Dean being her older brother Zac's best friend.
Ella, the broken princess, is returning home after four years at university to work for her brother in his club Merge and Dean, the man who broke her heart, is there waiting for her.
I loved the way Kylie brought Dean and Ella together. Their story has equal parts true love and hot sex with a bit of drama thrown in. Grab your copy today and see Dean and Ella's story come to life.
**Kylie Kent issues a Trigger Warning - "This book contains scenes and discussions of self-harm, profanity, sexual content, and violence. If any of these are triggers for you, you should consider skipping this read."**
Entwined With Him is the third book in Kylie Kent's Merge Series. I highly recommend this series to be read in order as you will not get the whole story with the characters BUT it can be read as standalones. I could not wait for Ella and Dean's story as there were so many secrets in the last two books in the series. I started to read it as soon as I could. The story was amazing but it was not what I was really expecting it to be. I knew they loved each other for years but I was kind of hoping for more earlier on in the book when it came to action/suspense and not at the very end. I love Ella and Dean, the past and pain they had to confront. I literally now can not wait for Jason's story as he has me beyond curious with his story! Amazing job to Kylie Kent and the Merge series! Each couple is so different but so much alike. Entwined With Him is a best friends sister romance.
This is book 3 in The Merge Series but can be read as a standalone. This is Ella and Deans story! Duo POV!
I’ve been waiting for this story since the first book when Ella gets hurt and when Dean and Ella were always tip toeing around each other. This story brings to light mental health and self harming issues perfectly. Dean is so patient and loving with Ella but he’s also a possessive alpha that won’t let anyone touch or hurt her. Ella came back to town after college to help her brother run his club, she has a hard time fighting her demons that she was running from. Together they have to get through all the struggles life has thrown at them. I couldn’t be happier with their HEA.
At the end of this book we’re introduced to a new character that is going to ruin you for all other men. I can’t wait for the ranch duet! Josh is going to ruin us in the best way! Keep a lookout for all updates on this sexy psychopath!
I had the the opportunity to receive an ARC from thr new book Entwined with him by Kylie Kent.
I didn't move from my place until I finished this book and I can say that again Kylie make magic with her writing. With this book, I went through a lot of emotions. Ella's character was amazing I love her new sassy side that stand up for herself. I adore her relationship with her brother, they have this amazing bound that melt your heart!
Dean in the other side make me little angry in some chapters. In the beginning I was angry with his behavior and how he wait so long for some things, but I can't say that he wasn't hot possessiv alpha who ador his woman.
This was one interesting experience reading this book and I enjoy very much all the chapters. Thank you for the chance to read early the book Kylie Kent.
Every book in Kylie Kent's Merged series is heart warming, entertaining, and unbelievably steamy. But book 3, Entwined with Him, adds a few more emotions to the mix! At times I found myself being angry at Dean, because he did what he thought was right and walked away from Ella, in order to let her live her young life. I felt my heart break a little with Ella when she gives in and has a set back in her personal battle with self harm. And I felt betrayal when... well, I won't spoil that part!!
This book, even more so than her others is so very real and down to earth about the struggles that some people go through, and the beauty that can be found when you have a tribe at your side that understands and supports you. While Zac and Alyssa are my favorite couple, I think that Dean and Ella's book has become my favorite of the trio! I'm eagerly looking forward to more from Kylie!

I couldn't wait to read a bit of a forbidden romance. Ella's story is heartbreaking and I feel sorry for Dean who believes it is all his fault for trying to be selfless and let her live her life. As much as Ella thinks she is broken, she is still a strong FMC and I was glad Dean stood his ground and didn't let her push him away. Zac and Bray made me laugh throughout this book being Ella's brothers and Zac being Dean's best friend didn't go down so well. But at the end of the day they are family and they work it out. Another close call on another crazy person thinking they can take what isn't theirs. Their story is beautiful and I love how it ended for them. I loved meeting Josh for the first time and I absolutely cannot wait to get into his story and why he is the way he is. I love though that even after only meeting Ella for a few minutes she had him protecting her like a big brother.
this book was not near as good as the other 2… highly disappointed! Problem 1: why’d they have to make it seem like Zac didn’t give a shit about Ella & what she was going through? Problem 2: why is there always some life or death situation at 90% through!? Problem 3: Sarah’s part was just thrown in there & not good. Problem 4: ain’t no way any of this would realistically happen.. like take him back after 4 years of being on your own after HE left YOU!? hell nah! Problem 5: the way he called her princess made me gag every time… EW! the only reason why this got 3 stars and not lower is because of Josh, Bray, & Zac!
Entwined With Him was such an amazing read! I was so happy to finally read Dean and Ella's story, and I was not disappointed! The chemistry between them jumped off the pages, and Kylie Kent is such an amazing writer, it just made me feel like I was actually living their story.
Needless to say, this one, along with the other two books in the series, is highly recommended!
I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest review of Entwined With Him.
I’ve been super excited to read their story and seriously I absolutely love Dean and Ella together, they had so much chemistry. The story was well written it gave me all the feels. Another 5 star from Kylie Kent!! PS I love Reilly’s wardrobe 😂😂
Ella and Dean have such a compelling story. Ella had such a rough time and I wish Dean had smartened up faster. Bray is such a great brother. Josh is my favourite character and I’m so glad he is getting his own story.
Was absolutely hooked from the beginning with these two, having them in the background of the other books it was great to get their full stories. Ella and Dean definitely were made for each other loved their story and loved the twist. Another great book!
