Junji Itō (Japanese: 伊藤潤二, Ito Junji) is a Japanese cartoonist and illustrator, best known for his horror manga. Ito was born in Gifu Prefecture, Japan in 1963. He was inspired to make art from a young age by his older sister's drawing and Kazuo Umezu's horror comics. Until the early 1990s he worked as a dental technician, while making comics as a side job. By the time he turned into a full time mangaka, Ito was already an acclaimed horror artists. His comics are celebrated for their finely depicted body horrors, while also retaining some elements of psychological horror and erotism. Although he mostly produces short stories, Ito is best known for his longer comic series: Tomie (1987-2000), about a beautiful high school girl who inspires her admirers to commit atrocities; Uzumaki (1998-1999), set in a town cursed with spiral patterns; Gyo (2001-2002), featuring a horde of metal-legged undead fishes. Tomie and Uzumaki in particular have been adapted multiple times in live-action and animation.
💭 Long dream :- 3 stars 🚇 The Story of mysterious tunnel :- 2.5 stars 🗿Bronze Statue :- 2 stars 🍃Drifting spores :- 3.5 stars 🩸Blood sickness of the White sands village :- 3.5 stars
3.5 stars these stories were really interesting!! the only one which I had read before was The Long Dream which is one of my all time favorites of him. The Bronze Statue and Drifting Pores were both really fun but the one that caught my eye and disturbed me the most was definitely Blood Sickness of The White Sands Village. the amount of blood in that chapter was unnerving. I cannot believe I finished all of these volumes in around 2-3 days. I feel sad having finished earlier than I meant to 🥲
Buku ni memuatkan 5 komik seram pendek karya Junji Itou. 1) Mimpi yang panjang 2) Kisah terowong misteri 3) Patung gangsa 4) Spora yang melayang 5) Penyakit berdarah
Seperti biasa, komik2 karyanya tak seram mana pun. Plot2 komiknya lebih kepada misteri dan 'mind blow'...
Interesting, but not ideal, this collection of Ito stories tends towards the rambling. "The Mysterious Tunnel" has some interesting twists and turns, plus a final few images that will surely stick with the reader. "Bronze Statue" is another standout, constantly developing new directions but lacking any extremely powerful images or disturbing moments. "Blood Sickness," however, feels like somewhere we've been before- too many elements felt like Ito retreading earlier stories.
I really, really enjoyed this collection especially the first story, Lond Dream. I think the idea behind Drifting Spores was great as well, could have been improved with a bit more "drama" I think. All in all a solid volume!

Quite interesting. But most of the ending not satisfied me.
yes yes yes i love junji ito… i specifically love his short story "Long Dream" in this collection! it freaks me out (people who know me personally and know what happened to me psychiatrically in January 2024 might be able to understand why :3 )
A ton of uncomfortable, 'whaaaat??' going on here. Loved it. Only one or two of the stories were even partially predictable (for me) and even then it was taken a step or three further.
