René Goscinny (1926 - 1977) was a French author, editor and humorist, who is best known for the comic book Asterix , which he created with illustrator Albert Uderzo, and for his work on the comic series Lucky Luke with Morris (considered the series' golden age).

This collection contains seven stories about the life of the little Nicolas. They capture examples of his most important areas of life: school and home, leisure and vacations. From the perspective of little Nicolas, the different areas of life are quite similar: Game (and fun) is the supreme motto, and living together at school, at home and during leisure are just different variants of just this game with more or less firmly distributed roles.

Le Football already shows how, in contrast to the game of most adults, children's play becomes an end in itself. It is not the football game itself or the question of winner and loser that is important, but the adequate division of roles. In doing so, suitability criteria are applied, which are at the same time imaginative-original and pragmatic-plausible. Agnan is therefore not the referee because he would have a lot of authority as a class leader, but because he can not be beaten as a spectacle wearer. However, Rufus, the policeman's son, who is the only one who has a whistle, has to whistle as he does not want to lend out this treasure. Maixent is determined to be a linesman, because otherwise he would be an extra, and with his long legs he is particularly fast.

Since the controversial site selection (who plays against the sun?) also triggers a hearty punch-up, it is no longer of importance that one has forgotten the ball at home: “On s’amusait vraiment bien, c’était formidable.” The same happens in the other stories. If there is trouble or if the zeal for learning is inadequate, it is usually due to the spontaneous playfulness of the children, the desire to have fun.

Only in the issue of school certificates the game (and thus the fun) usually stops. Although, in Les Carnets, Nicolas states: “Cet après-midi, à l’ecole, on n’a pas rigolé”; but the exceptionally bad certificates, except from the model student Agnan, and the associated critical remarks about behavior and cooperation lose something of their terror as the event appears ritualized.

This includes the Director's Prayer Wheel at the issuing ceremony: general lament, Agnan as role model, pre-programmed social descent into poverty and crime for others, painful disappointment for parents. How much Nicolas relies on these rituals can be seen at the end of the story. Distracted by a quarrel with the mother, the father signs the testimony without comment. And Nicolas? He feels neglected by the parents and complains crying in his room about their lack of love and care.

I enjoyed all the stories incredibly well; they were very amusing and often made me laugh. The reader is not only amused with little Nicolas about his teachers and parents, but also by him, as the reader is of superior experience. The reader's laughter is often laughter out of the knowing distance. Many situations and sudden twists, which must cause incomprehension and astonished shaking of the head by Nicolas, the knowing reader enjoys as something that was bound to happen.

But does Goscinny achieve his goal of getting the reader to transfer the laughter from a distance to himself? Let's hope so.

C’est un petit livre avec des histoires drôles et simples, mais bien sûr pas très intéressants.

On remarque que les histoires datent un peu, comment les parents se traitent les uns les autres et aussi leurs enfants.

Mais tout compte fait, un joli petit livre pour des personnes qui sont toujours en train d’apprendre le français et qui n’ont pas encore un niveau très haute. Une lecture facile et rapide !

Diese Ausgabe enthält leider nur 8 Geschichten des kleinen Nicolas, eine eher sparsame/geizige Ausgabe, wenn man bedenkt, wieviele Geschichten es gibt.
Enthalten sind:
1. Le Football: Nicolas und seine Freunde wolle Fußball spielen
2. Je fume: Nicolas will mit einem Freund eine stibitzte Zigarre rauchen und muss dafür an Streichhölzer kommen.
3. On a eu l’inspecteur: Der Schulinspektor kommt und die Lehrerin versucht Showunterricht zu machen, typische besuchte Unterrichtssituation, damals wie heute.
4. Les Carnets: Es gibt Zeugnisse…
5. C’est Papa qui décide: Der Vater will entscheiden wohin es in den Urlaub geht und wird von seiner Frau vor vollendete Tatsachen gestellt.
6. La Plage, c’est chouette: Urlaub am Strand.
7. On est restée: Aus dem Urlaub zurück, wird daheim klar Schiff gemacht und das Kind muss irgendwie beschäftigt werden.
Geschichte 5-7 gehören zusammen und sind mehr oder minder zusammenhängend. Sicherlich gab es noch mehr Urlaubsepisoden.
Von den angegebenen Vokabeln teilweise inkonsequent. Teilweise ist ein Wort in einer Geschichte nicht angegeben, wird in einer späteren dann doch angegeben. Hier richtet man sich noch nach einem alten Grundwortschatzwörterbuch statt aktuell eher mit einem Korpus zu arbeiten und nur die 1000 häufigsten Worte vorauszusetzen, was einfach deutlich besser funktioniert. Der Korpusansatz ist aber eher neu.
Im Anhang dann noch mal eine Analyse der Geschichten.
Sprachlich deutlich einfacher als Verte. Jede Geschichte kann einzeln gelesen werden, kann also auch ganz einfach einzeln im Unterricht eingesetzt werden. Selbst wenn man sein Französisch nach 20 Jahren nur mit Duolingo und Assimil reaktiviert hat, kann man dieses Buch sehr entspannt lesen. Es kommen keine umgangssprachlichen Redewendungen vor wie in Verte, die Sprache ist insgesamt deutlich einfacher, auf dem Niveau eines Kindes halt, das aus seinem Leben erzählt. Prima als erste französische Leseübungen.
Aber nur 8 kurze Geschichten? Es gibt Hunderte, da hätte man echt ein paar mehr zusammenfassen können. Diese Buch hat mal selbst als Anfänger an einem Nachmittag durch.

Nicolas, his parents, and his friends return in seven stories chosen to give an introduction to the "Dennis of Menace" of France. Written for both children and adults, they are written however from a child's perspective but with satire often discernible only by adults. I found myself chuckling out loud quite often.

So kann man schnell seinen SUB verkleinern und nebenbei noch sein Schulfranzösich ein bisschen auffrischen... Diese kleinen Geschichten eignen sich dazu besser als Camus, wie ich überrascht feststellen durfte ;-)

Court recueil d'histoires du petit Nicolas. Amusant avec des illustrations iconiques de Goscinny !

I really liked the short book. it was funny and not hard to understand. I loved to read it in French and it really made my language a bit better :))
