A new, thoroughly revised edition of the classic textbook for the student of Christian ethics, setting out important contributions from modern theologians alongside classical texts from Augustine, Aquinas and Luther.
Prof. Robin Gill is Emeritus Professor of Applied Theology. He was previously the first holder of both the Michael Ramsey Chair at Kent and the William Leech Research Chair at Newcastle. He has published extensively in sociological theology, the sociological study of churches, Christian and religious ethics, and health care ethics.
A Textbook of Christian Ethics provides the framework of different Christian writings on ethics. Using the writings of three different Western theologians of Augustine, Aquinas and Luther. Supplementing these are the writings of other perspectives, including other Christian voices, alongside non-Christian views. There is a good representation of different subjects, including methodology, social justice and politics, war and peace and finally interpersonal relationships. As a textbook, it is a useful reference book of different writings rather than being one that structures different arguments. I felt the reflections were mixed, usually lacking depth and only a page in length. Nevertheless, the book is a useful textbook of Christian Ethics.
