Abbey is a computer programmer who doesn't have time for romance - she's too dedicated to her job developing a cutting-edge virtual reality project at a university research lab. But when Conner Edwards, the technology’s owner, moves into her office, she finds it harder and harder to keep her mind on software. Add matchmaking students, a meddling grandfather, and a secret project, and it’s no wonder the romantic tension explodes!
One of the things I didn't like was she kept saying she has to do this for Katie but, you never got to meet Katie. It would have been easier to accept her deceit if there had been an interaction between Abbey and her.
Super cute read! It was a touch slow in the beginning but once it picked up, I didn't want to stop reading! This was a fun book and it twisted and turned a bit in all the right places and in all the right ways to keep you guessing!
Abbey is an overworked, underpaid computer programer, plagued with a horde of eager grad students working at a research lab developing cutting-edge virtual-reality programming. Conner is trying to prove himself worthy to run his grandfather's company, and has hired Abbey's lab to develop his ideas. When he decides a more hands-on approach was necessary to push the timetables on the project, Abbey suddenly finds herself sharing an office... and maybe, just maybe, a little bit more. Things really get interesting when others, including a well-meaning, yet meddlesome grad student and Conner's grandfather, try to get involved in their lives... This is just a really cute story. There's no bad guys, no evil plots and nefarious schemes. No one is emotionally battered or damaged or pining away like in so many chick-lit books these days. In that manner, it was a refreshing read, light and airy, and stood out from the crowd. While it will never be considered great literature, it certainly is a thoroughly enjoyable book and a wonderful afternoon beach read. I would have liked a better description of the technology, and what they actually do, my geeky side was certainly curious. However, that was incidental to the rest of the story... even though I was completely intrigued by the possibilities!
This was a pleasant little book. It's clearly chick-lit, but the plot wasn't as formulaic as I expected. It did, however, feel a bit hurried. I think the book could easily be longer with a bit more detail and substance worked in. The events in the book all seem to happen very quickly and in rapid succession. At the risk of falling back on a cliché, in many cases the book tells rather than shows the reader what's going on.
I personally wish that it spent a bit more time on the main character's life and experiences as a female computer programmer. As a girl in this male-dominated field, I was excited to read the book and to be able to relate to the protagonist in a unique way. Instead, I think the book could be rewritten in any other science/research field without being affected at all. Kind of disappointing.
Overall, it's a fun little romance with a well-ordered (albeit a bit exaggerated) plot that thankfully didn't go quite where I expected.
Akhirnya untuk menjauhkan diri dari Samurai aku lanjutin dah baca buku ini. Biasa aja. gak terlalu suka alur ceritanya. Premisnya menarik di awal. Tapi mungkin karena lagi gak dalam mood buat romance, jadi yah, berasa hambar ceritanya.
Loved it! Quick to read loved the characters, would've loved to develop it a little more. Either way I thought this book was great and would recommend for a quick, easy read with lovable characters.
