Hunter is puzzled, Dusty’s not well and getting worse, but each time he sees her, it’s like she’s a different person. One minute she’s the same feisty girl he’s used to and the next, she’s a flirtatious thief!
I was born in Wirksworth, Derbyshire at the beginning of December 1964. As the first-born of three children, and the fifth living generation in a local mining family, I hit the news early, appearing in the Derbyshire Times for my mother’s efforts. Living all my life on the Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire border I met my husband – a local lad - when I was 16 and we still live in the same area with our two children. After school – which frankly, I found that I was disappointed in because of the lack of encouragement I received - work consisted of factories until I started my own clothing manufacturing business in the eighties.
In recent times a more stable lifestyle has allowed me to follow jobs better in line with my character. I spent a number of years working as a Bouncer Door Supervisor at public houses and night clubs, trying out different ways of getting away with being violent keeping fit – such as kick boxing and gym work - I like to do things girls don’t normally do and always do everything to the best of my ability. I am competitive and I love a challenge.
Since school: I have always been interested in reading and enjoyed writing but due to work and partying an active social life, I didn’t find the time to put pen to paper for any of my stories. In the last few years I have been writing down ideas for this and other books and after a nine-month spell working at a school decided to take a year off work to finally produce this first book. It’s taken a lot longer than the one year that we had anticipated but it has been SO worth it!
Cruel…and Unusual is the second novel in Michelle’s highly acclaimed Werewolf series, following Deadlier…than the male. After reading Cruel … I’m a huge fan of Michelle’s unique, well-researched approach to her novels and action-packed writing style. I love the way her mind works!
There are many theories about the identity of Jack the Ripper, the serial murderer of Whitechapel. Myths perpetuated by the press, and the fact that he was never caught, have created huge speculation that romanticizes the mystery of the notorious killer even today. Michelle’s telling of the story in Cruel…and Unusual, is a chillingly plausible version, made even more believable by the author’s brilliant interweaving of fact and fiction.
Michelle’s characters are entirely credible, each having their own complex individuality; her location descriptions authentic, and action scenes spell-binding. I also appreciated the introduction of the Native American Indian Keme into Red’s saga, which brings an additional stimulating and intriguing perspective and depth to the intricate layers of Werewolf lore in this excellently penned book.
There is strong language throughout Cruel …, and graphic violence; thus, this is not a book for the faint-hearted, nor would I recommend it for the younger set. However, this sophisticated write would definitely appeal to more mature teens to adults, and I give it a full five stars in all categories. Michelle’s, Cruel … and Unusual, is guaranteed to thrill you— and chill you— right down to your very toes.
And here I go again, as I crawl into the world created by author Michelle D Gent!!! So far I think that I have read almost all of her amazing books!!! Ummm, I’ll have to do a count and see how many more I actually have to read though.
In “Cruel…. And Unusual” we are taken back into the weird creepy world of probably one of the most infamous serial killers that we have known in our life time- Jack the Ripper, but with an added twist of course.
Michelle has a way of being able to tell a story that is easy for the readers to grab hold of, latching on for the ride of insanity- in the crazy mind of each main character, and in this case that of the mind of “Jack”! *shivers*
It’s going to be hard to say too much about the storyline without giving away to much or spoilers so I think I need to stay away from this part, where I actually do try to tell you more about it. (Sorry)
What really happened so long ago in White chapel? Do you know? I sure in the heck don’t know for SURE. All I can say is that what is portrayed in this book is one that will have you rethinking or thinking maybe for the first time, into the real story of this creepy guy. What happens to a person that can make them go so terribly wrong, to do such things???
This book is an awesome read, and one that you will find very intriguing and unnerving at the same time, well at least it did for me.
Cruel… and Unusual is definitely a book that I would recommend as a fantastic read, so as I say many times in my reviews: if you haven’t had the chance to read this book then I suggest that you take the time and pick yourself up a copy of this book by Michelle Gent, I truly feel that you will enjoy it as much as I did..
Thank you so much for the wonderful opportunity to read yet another of your books Michelle!! I loved it.
Recommend: YA and up Rating: 4.5/5 angel stars Angel Anne Reviews
I received Doppelganger as a “Gift” for the amazing talented Author Michelle D. Gent herself.
I must say thank you so very much for the opportunity to continue my adventure to read this series of Dusty the Demon Hunter. To follow is my fair and unbiased opinion of Doppelganger“.
I am truly loving actually the chance to finish a book/short story and being able to get the reviews written the same day!!! (well almost the same day)
Dusty’s world had become additive to me, wanting to know what’s coming or happening next. I have been able to go from one novella to the next, just like it was a full novel. (now there ya go Michelle, lets see this all together)
The storyline continues to grow in this novella as well as the others, as well as the characters growing right along with it. It’s just like watching them grow up in a way.
Michelle has done a amazing job of keeping the interest of the readers, (or it had me) has each novella unfolds with the new adventure of Dusty and Hunter. I find myself rooting, getting mad, and also talking to myself as a event happens (like saying oh no he didn‘t, or watch out don‘t trust them)
The way the novellas are being written they can continue to keep going, as if you are living your life or in this case Dusty and Hunter’s lives on a day to day, week to week along with them, never getting bored. Keep them coming Michelle, we your avid readers are waiting eagerly for the next installment.
Yep, you guessed it!! I’m off to my next novella in this series. Catch you on the flip side as I return once more.
Great second installment and set in a completely different timezone to Deadlier.
Red is in the modern world and is carrying out her job of hunting down throwbacks who threaten their existence. It's a constant problem only worsened when outside forces come to Red's attention.
I always find it jaw dropping how human and blood thirsty the wolves are. They truly see themselves as a separate race and the humans as cattle which is incredibly interesting as it's a perspective i've never read before.
I read it in record time and rushed to get Cruel and Unusual
